Kobelco SK850LC

Andre van Greunen · 2025-02-21 13:48

Hi guys Got a Kobelco SK850LC. Worked for 2 weeks no issue, then lost power black smoke, revs dropped to 1300rpm. Replaced fuel filters, checked turbo, no codes, just saying engine error. ECU was reprogrammed by the dealers, still the same issues. Any ideas what could be the problem?

SK850LC has many generations. You should inform your serial number so we can support you correctly.

Thanks for the response. Could it be an ambient temp sensor? There arw no codes showing.

It could be a sensor, it could be anything. We here at HEF are a good bunch of guys, willing to help if we can but there has to be more information. How is the condition, how many hours, how is the engine running, other than the black smoke. Whats the air filter look like, is it possibly a fuel related issue, how cold has it been. Gelled fuel? Change your fuel filter. How the oil? Need a bit more information. Edit to add, just looked up DRC, think it’s not gelled fuel. lol

Hi Im in Zambia. Ambient temp average is 27°C. The machine is about 2 weeks in operation like very new, hours less than 200. It started smoking black, lost power, revs dropped to 1300rpm. Fuel filters were changed, turbo checked, no misfire, airfilter is clean. Fuel was drained. We have a fleet about 40 machines all using the same fuel. Now Im stuck and need answer where to check. No codes showing. ECU was reprogrammed by the dealers

If your machine is showing a lot of black smoke, it may not report any error code, but if the engine speed drops to 1300rpm, it must be reporting an error code! Try checking the machine's error history. How to access that section is in the attached image. Take a few photos while the machine is running to see what it displays on the screen.

The machine is under warranty. Even the dealer specialist coming here have it hard finding the problem. Next move is on the dealers. Once they have found the problem I will inform you. I will stay in touch with you, thanks.

The dealer tech specislist eas at the machine today he is now suspecting failed injectors. Now misfiring after Engine controller reprogrammed. The fuel sample was checked, result normal. No codes in history file

Problem found intercooler hose to turbo delaminated sucking closed starving engine from air

    That would do it.
