Well my new to me Komatsu dozer has arrived, I'm guessing it is a D-60 or D-65. 3 speed gear transmission and hand clutch. Good side -Starts great, excellent oil pressure, undercarriage is 75%. Bad side the right steering clutch is not working. It was working when the machine was parked a year ago, but not now. Does anybody here know a fix? Thanks
do you feel any difference in pressure when pulling the lever back vs the left side? one thing on those komatsu's is to make sure the oil system is bled. there is a good thread on here about it. basicly remove the flloor plate under your left foot and youll see the steering clutch filter housing with 5 bolts. loosen the one in the center crank machine, work steering till no air comes out. also make sure to check oil level, back of machine plug is on the right side above final drive plug. make sure oil level is correct.
We finished getting the floor plates and the seat out at the end of the day Friday. Will now follow your tip and let you know what we find. Thanks
shouldn't have to remove the seat. what year is the machine?
I believe it is a 1969. It looks to be some time since it was washed out good, so we are stripping her down to clean and service her. This morning (engine not running)when you pull the steering levers on the dash the left one moves a short distance and tightens up and you can see down in the left steering clutch a lever move against what I believe is the clutch pack. When you pull the right one it comes all the way out, no resistance and the lever does not move in the right clutch pack area. Once I figure out how to post photos I can show you the set up.
"When you pull the right one it comes all the way out, no resistance and the lever does not move in the right clutch pack area" sounds like a linkage issue.
There is a box in front of the final drives where you add oil and it has 2 shafts that come out of the left side. Both of the linkages conected to the steering levers turn the shafts
This is the box I'm talking about with the 2 shafts coming out the left side
This is a picture of the steering clutch and the lever on the right with the nut moves on the right clutch but not on this side. it should move towards the brake band
you're saying that when you pull the right steering lever nothing moves at the steering clutch? did you find the filter housing bleed screw and did you also check the oil level for the steering system. i have a 78 model D65. this one is set up a little different but same idea. check oil level then make sure system is free of air. make sure nothing mechanical with linkage then back to hydraulics.
this should be the filler for the transmission on the right and the vent on the left. the vent for the steering should there directly right of those linkages cant really tell by the pic. and the dipstick for the steering system oil is on the filler plug at the rear of the machine.
Hello all; We have cleaneed up the Dozer and have discovered it is a D-60, even was able to get a service manual for it. Linkages are now all adjusted to the correct settings. Now what I need to know is what is the Proper oil to be used in the steering and transmission? The manual doesn't list oils Thanks in advance
10 w 30 in both
The Clutch also needs a Drink, it only holds a small volume? the 60 is a very well built piece of iron that is not a very common tractor to find around, the farming industry used them to good effect around my area, there is still 2 of these tractors that I work on when needed.
Hello All, in between other projects we finally got the D-60 out of the shop. All steering linkages adjusted to spec. but they are at the end of any adjustment so the next process later this year will be replacing clutch pads etc. The right steering is still not working, when you pull the rightside lever and apply the right side foot brake no turn, it just tries to stall the dozer out. Clutch pack seized??? Any ideas? I still took it out and put it to work for 3 hours pushing brick, crushed stone and wood chips and it pushes great and as long as you think 2 moves ahead you can get around without to much trouble only steering using the left side steering.
just in case Hi, this might be a dumb idea but on my d65 there is a throttle brake on each of the brake pedals, is it possible this is engaging when you hit the track brake on the right side? The other idea I had is likely moot since you have adjusted the linkages but i found with mine that someone had adjusted the linkage rather than the brakes, so they had tightened the linkages so much that the actuator connected to the pads was ramming into the case, hence no brakes. Just a thought or two.
