komatsu d65e-6 hydraulics warm

hitmix300 · 2024-06-20 10:06

bought an old farm dozer and have put a couple of bucks into it. after pushing for 30 minutes the hydraulics, transmission and steering case are very warm. is there a common failure on the cooling of these items? i am wondering if the heat exchanger below the water pump is not doing its job? just wondering if anybody has worked on one of these. for now to save the seals, i have been using it in short bursts, but i think maybe something is up with the torque converter or transmission causing the excessive heat. it does whine when engine speed is high and it is in reverse. there is also a vibration at the transmission oil fill cap when there is a load on the blade. i installed a new temperature gauge on the engine coolant, and it doesn't get higher than 180f. but after 150 degrees the other fluids seem to be much hotter.

Hey Hitmix300…I don’t have any experience with Komatsu machines but might suggest you pickup a inferred temperature gun to pull some specific temps…then you can better monitor time/temps to better understand where (or what) might be starting the heat-up “party”. Depending on the machines history might have incorrect fluid in it?? Have you pulled/inspected any filters to see if any obstructions? Maybe another member can provide an approximate temperature range to operate in (or out!); I’d suspect 230F is probably boardline hot…250-260F is shut down/cool down range…or for that machine (who knows) might be much lower (or higher)?? Good that you have awareness and aren’t running it until it seizes…but I do know the 30min use then 30 min down “game” is no fun. Best of luck getting it sorted.
