Doing maintenance on our machine and it's do for a damper case service. Can anyone out line this for me please? There is nothing in the Operator/Maintenance manual or the shop manual outlining it.
Welcome to the HEF. It’s mostly a visual thing, look for leaks and check the oil level. It should be level with the bottom of the plug. Pay attention to the paint in that area. Is it burnt or discolored? Here is the main point; make sure it’s not over full. If so, there is a problem with the hyd pump group or the engine rear main seal. When it’s over-full, the damper case will overheat.
Look for the red plug on the face of the flywheel cover[pump side] That's your check plug around the 6-7 O'clock position. Drain is bottom dead center. It will be tight if it's the first time. The fill is TO 30. Good luck
The level check plug is under the hydraulic pumps on the flywheel housing. Replacing the oil as I recall was a 1,000 hour event but the recommendation might be different for your Dash series. All the above is good info. Here is a video showing the maintenance on older models. The maintenance is little changed since then.
Does it fill with 15w-40 fluid? Thanks for the replies. Mechanic said to just drain the case and not refill with anything.
They used 30 wt engine oil back when I worked for the dealer. Any engine oil would be fine. The damper needs a little bit of lube so I wouldn't run without unless the rear main on the engine or the input seal on the pump was leaking and I had to run the machine until I had time to fix it. The actual damper looks like a clutch plate without the clutch facings.
Bullitt, in my copy of the OMM they call it PTO gear case and the description of oil drain and refill can be found under the maintenance section, 1000 hr maintenance. Komatsu sometimes likes to refer to the same items differently across their publications. This a good example some publications will refer to it as damper oil and some will refer to it as PTO gear case. I think they do this to keep us on our toes. funwithfuel is correct. Use a 30 weight powertrain oil, TO30, and capacity is approx .75 litres.
Pay attention: Note 2: Power train oil has different properties from engine oil. Be sure to use the recommended oils. Additional information: you can use any power train oil that meets the KES 07.868.1 (Komatsu Engineering Standards) or Caterpillar TO-4 specifications such as Castrol TRANS C30 _ Mobiltrans HD 30 _ Chevron Delo torque force SAE 30...
