Komatsu PC210-6 won’t slew intermittent fault. Any help would be appreciated

Hi thanks for reading in advance. We've got a komatsu pc210-6 she's getting on abit now - 1998 but she's a good work horse. But she started to develop a intermittent slewing fault a few months ago. You'll be half way through a working day and she will just stop slewing asif the slewing brake is stuck on. Sometimes turning it off/on will fix the problem sometimes 10 mins other times you'll have to leave it over night. It's never done it from cold, the machine would have to run for a hour or so at least before this happens.. Sometimes it won't happen for 20 hours of running time.. Seems to have good and bad days/weeks. Had a fitter out to have a look he put a override switch on the slew brake to over ride it but this hasn't made a difference. Also another electrical fault it's started to do is say it's overheating then cut the revs down to idle, only done this a few times but this is a recent problem and I don't think they are related? Any one had a similar problem or have any idea on what it could be? Please don't say buy a newer machine as that's not a option... I wish it was though ! thanks matt

The swing issue sounds like a bad ground more than any failed component. I've had issues like that in the past with that vintage and model. Komatsu put the ground straps in different places so you will have to follow the wiring harness to find wires that are joined to the cab and then joined between the cab and the machine frame. The overheating issue is how the system is designed. You hit a certain high temperature and the computer takes performance away and the next high step puts the engine at low idle. If the engine is not actually overheating you could be looking back at the ground problem or a faulty temperature sensor in the engine.

does the rpm bump up when swing left and right are used? and auto idle is on?

John C, thank you for your reply! A bad earth would make sense, the wiring on this machine is in a state.. With wires being cut and replaced here and there! I'll check all them tomorrow (or the ones I can find!) The engine isn't actually overheating, it's just telling its self it it! Hopefully if it is a ground issue then the two are connected! DK88 - the idle revs don't change when you try to slew.. Thanks of both of your answers Matt

Hey man.... a quick workaround is to bypass the oil feed around the solenoid. tee into the feed to the solenoid and tee into the brake line.. job done mate

Hi All I have a similar problem with the swing of my PC210 but the swing will not work while the oil is cold. Once it worked for about 30min and the oil heats up the swing starts to work. It then swings the entire day until the next morning when it is cold again. Can anyone assist please. Regards Henk South Africa

What Dash series machine do you have?

It is a dash 7. I hope you can shed some light on this issue.

You will have to figure out if the problem is electrical or hydraulic. I'm not real familiar with the Dash 7 but Komatsu used to have a switch that released the swing brake all the time. It was next to the computer bypass. Komatsu like names that didn't make sense so they called it a prolix switch. When in the bypass position it sent oil to the swing brake all the time. You should also check for fault codes in the computer monitor. I believe you can find the menu by pushing the up triangle on the monitor panel and then pushing numbers 1, 2 and 3 in succession. A menu will come up and you can use the up down buttons to cycle to the sub menus. If the machine is OK electrically you may have an issue in one of the cushion valves on the swing motor.

John C Thank you very much. I have changed all the solenoid valves and that did not solve the problem. We have also bypassed the swing lock switch with no positive results. I will try searching in the menu monitor for fault codes. Thank you for your time. Much appreciated.
