We have a 2007 Komatsu WA500-6 , 12000 hours , we need to add about 4 liters of coolant every 40 hours of work , no appearant leak , anybody has any experience about this ?
Have you done oil sampling to see if it is getting into the oil? If this machine has water to oil coolers for transmission or hydraulics need to check those too. Also does engine have water to air intercooler that could be letting coolant get into intake of engine? Did this just start doing this and has it got worse? Could it be that someone is filling it to the top when engine is cold and when engine warms up it pushes the excess out the over flow?
Right we are going to do oil sampling , and check the intercooler , it is not going worse , you could be right about the filling it is another operator .
That's why I asked. We have had guys who will fill radiator right to the top of the neck cold then they get excited and come to the shop saying they have a leak when it is just coming out the over flow. If coolant is getting into engine or other oils I would expect to see white slime forming on the filler caps, if it's that much, 4 liters a week.
Went to check on the depot the machine is right near my house at the moment , no white slime on any of the caps , but one radiator cap seal slightly damaged , i'll order a new cap , let the machine working and see , anyway thanks for your help an i'll let you know . Oooooups last question if any internal leak in the EGR valve cooler would water go to exhaust system , engine air intake or in the air aftercooler ? The parts book shows a water cooled turbo could it be cause of water consumption ?
Sorry can't help with question on the EGR, have not worked on anything with the EGR, but if the EGR is water cooled that would seem to be a possibility.
we have two 500-6's have had trouble with the sub tank in the rear on the right side. they tend to crack around the radiator cap neck. do you smell coolant in the rear of the machine? sometimes the coolant will leak while running but then evaporate. are you aware that there is another cap on top of the radiator under an access panel on the rear hood? the egr cooler is made from stainless steel so im not sure if it would leak or not but if it did the coolant would go into the engine and should still be picked up in an oil analysis as potassium and or sodium.
Yes we found it , it was a sub tank problem , thanks to all of you
