kubota 161-3 owners!

triowest ยท 2015-10-26 21:51

Got a kubota 161-3 , 3500 hrs. Recently it has been running funny. Almost like it's bogged down. Also have noticed the hydraulics are slower and not as smooth. Any ideas to what could fix this would be appreciated...thanks

What does " running funny. Almost like it's bogged down" mean? engine is running slower? rougher? under more load than before? sound louder? more smoke? When did you last change your fuel, oil and hydraulic filters and did you check the old ones for gunk?

Like it's under more load..not as loud as usual. No smoke at all. Changed the oil and fuel filters within the last 200 hrs..never changed the hydraulic filter...would that be a lead?

That sounds more hydraulic than engine. I wouldn't know where to start on something like that. The hydraulic filter isn't going to give you any good news, only bad news or no news. If it's anywhere near needing a hydraulic fluid change then you could do that with everything warmed up nicely. Cut a section of pleats out of the old filter and squeeze the oil out in a vice, then inspect for metal etc. Or rinse the filter with gas, then let the gas settle and pour off the extra and examine your clean junk for any big bits.

It does have an electric fuel pump, there is a possibility it is failing. I have no idea how to diagnose it though. If you could find a spec for the pump ( how much fuel it moves per minute) you may be able to let it pump into a bucket and calculate the flow? My 161 only has a small paper fuel filter but I have seen later ones with a spin on, it may be worth pulling you filters and dumping em out to see if they've got any garbage blocking em.

Hi there. I am experiencing a similar problem - did you figure it out? Thanks, Arie
