lacing repair

Dualie ยท 2014-05-23 01:17

I have a friend that purchased HTC 60 ton. One of the lacing's on the folding jib is bent and needs to be replaced. Does anyone have acess to a WPS for lacing repair or know what particular grade of pipe the jib is fabricated from? Hes most likely going to order a replacement lacing from Linkbelt but if we could save a couple hundred bucks who wouldnt want to do that? And just encase anyone is questioning i have my 6G pipe welding certs and I'm not going to be zapping this thing together with a 110V mig.

Don't know Dualie . I would think the tubing grade would fall somewhere in the 4100 family http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/41xx_steel Be interesting to see what www.linkbelt.com has to say about it ? Be handy if they would work with you on the repair with proper tubing & welding information . Look like this unit ? www.machinerytrader.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=9983771

link-belt has a wps available. lacing for that swing around is seamless mechanical tubing. 3/32 7018 electrode 500 degree preheat. your certs are more than adequate. 1/4" bead max.

Its a later model HTC-8660 i figured it was D.O.M. tube But it was dark when i looked at it and wasn't in the mood to monkey around on it in the dark. The 4130 makes sense. Hes going to get the whole thing media blasted to remove paint. after the repair it will be repainted i doubt anyone will ever know it was even repaired but following the OSHA and ASME std's we need a WPS to keep in the cranes file for future inspections.
