Engine timing Most of the time I check before pulling the engine down for the timing. Remove the cover plate on the front cover in front of the injection pump on the drive end. Remove the plug in the cover that looks down inside area where the gear mates the pump drive, remove the front valve cover of #1 #2 cylinder, turn the engine clockwise until TDC mark matches the pointer on the front cover and crank pulley, both push rods on #1 cylinder should be loose on TDC of compression stroke, if push rods tight turn 360* more and recheck. Now turn the crank counter clockwise back to around 35*BTDC. Now turn the crank clockwise to around 30-31* BTDC. If you now look down into that plug removed you will see the pointer and mark lined up on the pump gear and drive. I am thinking it should be 31* BTDC to line them up on the w14h not sure about that. If they line up remove the three bolts holding the gear on, remove fuel system parts/lines, remove the four nuts holding the pump to front housing and slip off the pump. Install is reverse except snug the pump up, snug the gear up and if the line is off rotate the pump in the slots then tighten pump and gear and recheck. Once again not sure on the timing of the 30-31* so get with your dealer to double check me.
