Looking at a 825c compactor

Hoping for a little insight. I'm looking at a 825c compactor at the Youngstown, OH Ritchie brothers auction. It was originally a 826c converted to a 825 sn 87x00816. Any info you might have or key items to look at on these machines would be greatly appreciated.

They're basically based on a 980C so parts supply should not be a problem. Apart from the usual diesel engine smoke, leaks, noise etc, check for; Diffs and final drives. The Cs are getting old now and if they are approaching 20000hrs, start thinking about rebuilds. Checking the magnetic plugs and getting oil samples would be a good idea. Cracks around the steering cylinder anchors. Check the hitch for play. Look underneath. There should be a disc about 8" dia under the bottom pin with two or three big bolts in the centre. If the bolts are missing, that's a bad sign. Rusty cab. Rear axle trunnion wear. Look for repairs or damage to the underside of the transmission and rear of the transfer case caused by the rear drive shaft letting go. A folded core radiator is a minus. If it still has the old LFC blade, check for it wearing thin underneath.

Thanks Cmark. Do you know of any problems associated with working in a land fill. I imagine all the crap those machines run through has to take a toll. I am familiar with dirt equipment just not sure of any go/no go signs of impending doom with land fill machines. It reads 9300 hr on the meter.

check the axle seals. wire wraps around them bad in a landfill you would think that would be found when it was converted but you never know

The only really unique problem that landfill machines get is with the iron wearing thin underneath due to them dragging their arse on the ground all day. And as clintm says, wire wrap around the hub seals.
