Maintenance Intervals

JeremiahSr · 2010-10-08 15:31

This is for Cat excavators but you should be able to use it as a general rule of thumb on all excavators. I will get Bulldozers, Loader Backhoes and Skid Steers next week. I have to type all this stuff up. I only have it in shop manuals. Couldn't find a good one to copy/paste online. But if you ever wondered the exact maintenance intervals for these machines you can copy/paste then save to your computer or print! If anyone has any requests for a specific type machine let me know. I am also going to put these on my website @ http://www.bbdieselserviceinc.com WHEN REQUIRED Air Conditioner/Cab Heater Filter-Inspect/Replace Battery-Recycle Battery, Battery Cable or Battery Disconnect Switch-Replace Boom Base Pins-Lubricate Bucket Linkage-Inspect/Adjust Bucket Tips-Inspect/Replace Cab Air Filter-Clean/Replace Circuit Breakers-Reset Engine Air Filter Primary Element-Clean/Replace Engine Air Filter Secondary Element-Replace Fuses-Replace Oil Filter-Inspect Radiator Core-Clean Refrigerant Receiver-Dryer-Replace Refueling Pump Strainer-Clean Track Adjustment-Adjust Windows-Clean Window Wiper-Inspect/Replace EVERY 10 SERVICE HOURS Boom, Stick and Bucket Linkage-Lubricate EVERY 10 SERVICE HOURS or DAILY Cooling System Level-Check Engine Oil Level-Check Fuel System Water Separator-Drain Fuel Tank Water and Sediment-Drain Hydraulic System Oil Level-Check Indicators and Gauges-Test Seat Belt-Inspect Track Adjustment-Inspect Travel Alarm-Test Undercarriage-Check Walk-Around Inspection EVERY 10 SERVICE HOURS or DAILY for MACHINES USED in SEVERE APPLICATIONS Boom, Stick, and Bucket Linkage-Lubricate EVERY 50 SERVICE HOURS or WEEKLY Boom, Stick, and Bucket Linkage-Lubricate EVERY 50 SERVICE HOURS or WEEKLY Boom, Stick and Bucket Linkage-Lubricate INITIAL 100 SERVICE HOURS Engine Oil and Filter-Change Fuel System Filter-Replace Fuel System Filter-Replace Fuel System Priming Pump-Operate *EVERY 100 SERVICE HOURS of CONTINUOUS HAMMER USE Hydraulic System Oil Filter-Replace INITIAL 250 SERVICE HOURS Engine Valve Lash-Check Final Drive Oil-Change Hydraulic System Oil Filter-Replace Hydraulic System Oil Return Filter-Replace Swing Drive Oil-Change EVERY 250 SERVICE HOURS or MONTHLY Air Conditioner-Test Belt Tightener Bearing (Fan Belt)-Lubricate Condenser (Refrigerant)-Clean Cooling System Hoses-Inspect Engine Oil and Filter-Change Final Drive Oil-Check Swing Bearing-Lubricate Swing Drive Oil Level-Check V-Belts-Inspect/Adjust/Replace *EVERY 250 SERVICE HOURS of PARTIAL HAMMER USE (50% OF SERVICE HOURS) Hydraulic System Oil Filter-Replace *EVERY 250 SERVICE HOURS of CONTINUOUS HAMMER USE Hydraulic System Oil Return Filter-Replace EVERY 500 SERVICE HOURS or 3 MONTHS Engine Crankcase Breather-Clean Fuel System Filter-Replace Fuel System Priming Pump-Operate Fuel System Priming Pump Strainer-Clean Fuel Tank Cap and Strainer-Clean Hydraulic System Oil Filter-Replace *EVERY 500 SERVICE HOURS of PARTIAL HAMMER USE (50%of SERVICE HOURS) Hydraulic System Oil Return Filter-Replace *EVERY 600 SERVICE HOURS of CONTINUOUS HAMMER USE Hydraulic System Oil-Change EVERY 1000 SERVIE HOURS or 6 MONTHS Battery-Clean Battery Hold-Down-Tighten Engine Valve Lash-Check Hydraulic System Oil Return Filter-Replace Swing Drive Oil-Change Water Pump Bearing-Lubricate *EVERY 1000 SERVICE HOURS of PARTIAL HAMMER USE (50% of SERVICE HOURS) Hydraulic system Oil-Change EVERY 2000 SERVICE HOURS or 1 YEAR Final Drive Oil-Change Hydraulic System Oil-Change Refrigerant Receiver-Dryer-Replace Swing Gear-Lubricate EVERY 3000 SERVICE HOURS or 3 YEARS Cooling System Coolant Extender (ELC)-Add EVERY 6000 SERVICE HOURS or 6 YEARS Cooling System Coolant (ELC)-Change EVERY 3 YEARS Seat Belt-Replace *If equipped with hammer

That was alot of work. Thanks But how do you "inspect" an oil filter?

I'd inspect an oil filter by looking at it for leaks. My daughter's F250 had an oil change a couple of years ago. I did an inspection after the shop did their work and I noticed some oil leaking at the filter, probably kept her from running it out of oil on her way home. Bubba

This is for Cat bulldozors but you should be able to use it as a general rule of thumb on all excavators. This is just a rule of thumb though. Many different machines have specialty things you have to do. It is best to check with the supplier for the specific machine you have.
