I was paying so much attention to the hurricane last week that I totally missed this story that happened not far from here. I know the owners of the dozer involved. A good friend of mine works for them and he told me some of the details that you won't see in the news coverage. He said one of their excavators was actually flipped over. I don't know how long these links will stay alive. Beaver County newspaper story KDKA TV story, with video Second KDKA TV story--be sure to click on the video accompanying this one! It's too bad about the damage at the school soccer field, but it's just plain painful to look at the video of the damaged equipment. Obviously, the perpetrator was someone with some operating experience. Electra Glide, where were you last Monday night? :cool2

about 15 years ago, a pipeline co. was putting a new high pres. 36" gas line alongside 2 others on a right of way less than a mile from my house. my neighbor got permission from the landowner & pipeline co. to pick fieldstone on a Sunday to use for 200' of driveway base. we heard some clangin' & bangin' from far away...just figured someone was workin'. well, next day we found out someone was playin' demolition derby with 2 of their Cat excavators about a mile or two down the pipeline... they also started digging a big hole...maybe to bury one...and came within a foot or two of hitting the gas line in service...would have been quite a fire

Sounds like yet another good reason to hide a kill switch on your equipment. And while you're at it, make sure your fuel and oil tanks are locked. Local fire chief told all of us to make sure the rural fire satations are locked as he's heard that a few places have been broken into of late - Seems folks with diesel trucks are thinking that a fire engine and an Alabama credit card are the solution to fuel prices these days. (With apologies to the good folks from Alabama - we all know that they use Georgia credit cards in those parts!!!!!
