Material terminology question

We have easy access to "c-base" which we use exclusively for ranch roads, it's 1.5" and finer with a particular ratio passing various mesh screens. The highway crews are using it as a road base under asphalt on the 4 lane road they're putting in as well. However, I've seen reference to an "a-base" on this forum and heard of reference to C Rock and D rock. Could someone please enlighten me as to what these are?

same rocks have different names in different areas your c base is our ab3 we have a grade that is called kge rock... which is 3" and smaller ... spec'd for the electric company years ago.... the name stuck washed rock... nice clean rock that has 3 or 4 size grade with no fines sewer rock... is about the same as the kge but has no fines...no wash either then there is filter rock which goes under rip-rap... It's more or less 6" and under 5x9 rock... which is a small riprap to fill in around big rip rap... sometimes used around small culverts riprap I can't remember all the sizes there.... but the biggest is two rocks per end dump top soil and fill dirt... well that is about the funniest thing in the world to haul to a home owner... topsoil is like 20ish fill is 5ish a ton well of course they always pick fill dirt... because they want to fill in a few holes... and it cheaper then they complain because its has rocks and big chunks of dirt.... nothing like the fine.. nice topsoil sand has a billion grades also...
