Spose you do need a bit of grunt to get up them big Kiwi hills or should that be hulls BTW nice looking trucks and kept in good shape by the looks.
that shaker is bad
WOW, looks like someone kept that freightshaker up real well. Great pics!
those are some killer looking trucks
Jared thanks for sharing do you still have the freightliner, nice looking trucks.
Thanks guys. Yep, still have the freightshaker. We bought it new in Eureka, Oregon back in '91 while on holiday. It's done around 560,000 miles and 23,000 engine hours. Motor is about 1000hrs into it's first rebuild, box and diffs are untouched. It was my first real rig, love driving it.
Here's how we got the Freightliner back from the U.S It was a t.unit for the first 5yr Then spent 8 as a truck and trailer Now it's back as a t.unit in a semi-retired role
I love the air cleaner extendos on the KW
There are a lot of deep creeks to go through in NZ Seriously though, they are pretty much standard in the bush.

Sharing a haul rd with a Komatsu 785. Loading coal under a 988G. WA800 lifting a scrapped 475 off.
Why only 'roo bars on the one Int? Did that one come from Oz?
Yeah, it was Aussie designed and built. The Eagle F4870 was a flash version of a T2670 (see pic) that was aimed at owner-drivers. Ours was one of only two heavy haul spec units bought into NZ, the other having a 400 Cummins. To the best of our knowledge that rig is no longer on the road, leaving ours as rather unique.
That's interesting, over here the flash T line was sold as an Atkinson. http://www.roadtransport.com/blogs/...-ive-started-something-says-biglorryblog.html I used to drive a ACCO 3070 inter prime mover with a NA 903 Cummins @ 300hp coupled to a 15 speed, which for some reason used to keep breaking one of the leaf springs in the Hendrickson. It was pretty worn out as it did the Adelaide opal fields run for many years before finding it's way onto the farm. Was like this except it was bogie drive http://cgi.ebay.com.au/internationa...temQQimsxZ20090624?IMSfp=TL090624162001r11170
Some pics taken on the road to a local coal mine.
Great pictures jared. You have some neet trucks & lowboys. We have some narrow country roads whith steep grades in my area.I really like the lowboy in the last picture ,It looks like the rear axil is steerable. Is there a drag link between the truck & lowboy that controlls the steerable axil on the loboy,or is it done with hydraulic controlls in the truck cab?
Those are great shots. I always love to see how things are done abroad. Hey Tonka, imagine pro 350 trying that hairpin turn.
Fairly certain it is just a castor steering axle. He can also clip another 2rows on.
There were 5 hairpins in a row until a bypass rd was built.

Hawks Crag
Great pictures jared.I love the blue kenworth twin-steer wrecker. And hawks crag looks like it could get a little snug at times depending on what you are hauling. Those are some nice country side views.
Great shot's thanks for sharing! Hawks crag looks interesting to navigate to say the least. How does the traffic work? Is that a one lane, one way or does traffic go both ways with some sort of traffic control?
There are some nice trucks out there, these are some great pics.
Cheers guys. Hard to believe but the KW wrecker was a million-km 8x4 logger before he got hold of it and worked his magic, it's a clever setup. Hawks Crag is on a two-lane road, one end has right of way signs. And it does get interesting at times, although it has been opened up a lot over the years. 'Spose that just means bigger gear going through

Boy, there is some nice rigs here. almost embarrassed to post my first dump truck. Just got it last sat. Nothing fancy, but will get me started. Needs a lot of TLC. Former city truck.
Thanks for the comments guys. Powerjoke, we run 22.5" rims down here so maybe that is what you have noticed?
Here's my T950 in it's new owner's colours.
Realy nice pics Jared. Realy apreciate them. Just keep up posting... NZ shurely is a strange country regarding trucks. A mix of japaneese, European and US modells. Not what u will find many other places in the world. How does the US modells compare to the European? Thinking of price, handling, comfort and reliability..
As far as price, KW is the dearest US brand by a fairly big margin and I'd say some of the top-spec European gear would be similar. With KW you get trucks that are designed and engineered specifically for Australian and New Zealand conditions, and they vary greatly between the 2. AUS has high ambient temps and big onroad GCM's approaching 200t, whereas NZ's GCM is still only 45t but you have really hilly, winding terrain. WesternStar's are competitively priced and really good value for money, just the build and shipping time for custom units like mine let the brand down. My uncle ran a 505hp Stralis and a R500 Scania and they were both lemons, always had something wrong. The driver of those rigs had enough and is driving a 4964WStar for us. He's 63 and absolutely loves it, he cant believe how smooth the ride is and the grunt of the C15. Best truck he's ever driven he reckons. The real value for money rigs are the Japanese brands. Roughly half the price of the other makes, but to be fair you wont get the same life out of them. Take the Hino's we run as 6x4 tippers: 450hp 1650lb/ft 13L elec. motor, not a flat torque curve and low hp peak like a yank motor but very respectable. 18spd roadranger box, Hino 46# lb diffs on either Hino 6-rod or Hendrikson airbag, huge chassis rails and universals, 4point airbag cab suspension. A really strong, comfy truck. They are heavy, ours tare at 11t with steel deck, but you'll never break one. You wouldn't want to be linehauling at max weight in one but for local work like we do they are great. If you want to look cool, buy a Yank. If you want to make money, buy a Jappa. Cheers, Jared
Couple of recent ones
Thanks for your evaluation Jared. I suspected what you confirmed. A specialy built WS would often be bether than a of the shelf standard truck. Norwegian army is buying 1000 trucks in 2011-2020, and i am hoping some of the US produsers would react on the big deal. Rather have a WS 8x8 C18-800, than a Scania 8x8 R470, for our heavy tank transporter... And i see you guy's even got Norwegian equipment. Looks like that moxy had its left front into something, as the ladder is well bent.
