Hey guys, I am a heavy equipment operator for the family business usually running a cat 323, kumatsu D39, a deere 200c. Its not just a job for my but a passion. Anyways My grandfather who is like 75 or something is moving back to Texas and building a 1.5 mil house and a 10k square foot barn. The only problem is he wants to buy a dozer, backhoe, and a tractor for bailing hay. The problem is he still thinks equipment goes for what they did 40 years ago and is looking to spend 15k on a dozer and backhoe each with a cab and 10k on a john deere tractor with a cab with more than 75 hp to round bale. I have tried over and over again to tell him that they run higher but hes an war vet so i guess hes stubborn. He finally found himself a dozer that's 1983 cat D4 with like 4k hours on it and the smallest blade i have ever found on a machine i think. HE WANTS TO ME TO DIG A 5 ACRE POND WITH IT. Do you guys have any suggestions on how maybe i can convince him that what hes thinking inst working really? Any phrases, quotes, advice, anything. Thanks so much.
sorry i posted the wrong dozer he was looking at. the dozer is a 1977 komatsu D45A with 3300 hours...much better eh....17k
Could you start the work with the unit he purchased, then tell/ask him if you could use your bigger equipment for the bulk of the work (due to time constraints??) then maybe finish it with his dozer? I had to deal with my grandfather and an old tractor he had that was more work than it was worth, but he has been gone a few years now and I am glad for the time that resulted from it.
just go on the hourly and you will make all the money he is saving..... win for you
