I have a late 450 a that works good in all respects except the low high change is stuck in high. I'm getting ready to pull the trans to pull the front gear change apart . Linkage is free and i looked inside with a camera and it looks like new .The gear that the yoke shuttles is free but some thing stops the yoke solid when you move it just a bit. i took out the ball and spring detent and they where clean. I probed with a magnet and nothing is in there to stop the travel of the yoke. The bolt is in that holds the yoke to the shaft and its safety wired. It looks like a very easy straight forward gear change arraignment but I am unable to figure out what is stopping the yoke. hope some one has a fix with out removing trans,
Welcome to HEF Dozer Rat ! Did you try to removing the the fork and moving the collar to neutral or low with a bar ? If it won't move there may be a problem with the collar or the gears. Do you have a service manual ? If not the parts book is a great help. Model number and serial number will help the HEF members provide accurate advice. This may not be the correct parts book for your machine. https://partstore.casece.com/us/par...1fca20&sl=EN¤cy=#epc::mr3470020ar661510
Is the pedal stuck, the pivot pin may be stuck or as tinkerer said you could have internal issues. Try unhooking the linkage and see if pedal will move then.
@dozer rat I'm hoping you realise that the 2 speed selection can only be made with the engine stopped. Is there any movement at the input shaft? Suggesting worn bearings / loss of shaft preload?
Thank you. I will be pulling trans soon. nothing can be done from the out side. i put a bore scope in the return trans fitting hole and theirs no sign of any issue with the gears they move but the fork stops. Its in high hit it hard with your hand goes toward neutral stops but gear moves past where fork stops so its not the gears jamming its the shaft yoke or fork as you call it stopping short of where its supposed to go. linkage is free i put some real pressure on it with a spud bar and no movement.
Yes engine off camera in gear box turning input shaft bye hand feels like new no play something inside stopping shift shaft with yoke that moves female gear.
It has a leaver and its free i pulled pins and pried on it but no movement.
Ok well then you know what needs to be done. You can pull the two speed housing off without pulling tranny, you will have to pull brake housings and plates.
Thank you i found shift shaft is bent i put a port o power on it and got it straight and it moved to neutral then i pushed it in to low with a spud bar and that's were it will stay. i bought this from a city and they never used low and i know why thanks for the help.
Leaving it permanently in low will certainly limit what you can do with it.
Yes but it it will go back in to high but i don't need it. 1 st and 3rd are great compared to 2nd and 4th. Every thing is temporary nothing is permanent.
