HOLY CAT CRAP, BATMAN !!! I'd hate to have to get that thing on a lowboy.

  3. #3DirtHauler2012-04-03 14:37

I know CAT bought a bunch of different companies last year. Is this machine a completely new CAT design or a machine from one of the companies they bought with a CAT dress on.

So Cat finally came out with the big stuff again. Woo hoo!

A Quote " One of the most exciting developments for many years was Finnings recent acquisition from Caterpillar of the former Bucyrus distribution business for £300m in January 2012. The real buzz is starting now as the first of four 300 tonne Cat 6030’s has been assembled onsite. In a seven year deal worth £60m with Finning Equipment Solutions, mining specialist Hargreaves has invested in a totally new fleet of Caterpillar equipment, which will include four new Caterpillar 6030’s, one of which is already in place, and nineteen Caterpillar 777 Off Highway trucks, which will be delivered for use at the Tower Colliery open cast mine site in Hirwaun, Rhondda Cynon Taff, South Wales, during 2012. These giant mining machines will be used to extract around six million tonnes of coal from the 615-acre site over the next seven years."

After trading hands several times over the last 10 years, Cat is the proud owner of O&K's mining excavators.

  7. #7Nige2012-04-03 16:27

Finning bought the right to the distribute Bucyrus line of machines in all territories they service. That would be Western Canada, Southern Latin America, and the UK/Ireland. 777's ..... "Giants" my ar$e ........... we use them as water trucks, and they're still too small. This year we have a 789 water truck coming. If you want something big, try this ...........

  8. #8stock2012-04-03 16:39

Nige you must be from Texas are you?? it is only a 600 odd acre site but your lawn is probably bigger than that..................................

  9. #9Nige2012-04-03 17:04

I'm from a lot closer to you than you think pal ........... what part of Eire do you hail from..?

  10. #10big ben2012-04-03 17:04

Yup if some argued that Cat didn't have a complete and utter domination in the mining sector before this may change their vote !!!!!

Some nice pics there Will. Scheduled to start in Christmas Creek Mine on Wednesday morning, should see plenty of big stuff there. I work beside Westrac in Perth, there is always a couple of 994's being assembled there

  22. #22rare ss2012-07-08 02:35

White CAT's look great IMO There used to be a large company in WA during the 80's which used to paint ALL there gear white and red, they looked great too

  23. #23Nige2012-07-08 09:16

Nice pics. Keep them coming. I've got a thread going on our new toys if anyone's missed it. I need to update it with new pics but I'm waiting for tomorrow when the first chassis rock up. Just found out the next project after the 789D's is a fleet of articulated trucks, hydraulic exacvators, graders, compactors, wheel loaders, etc for our tailing dam extension. Not big machines (largest are 3 x 390) but about 50 of them all told. Should keep me out of mischief for a while....

  28. #28diggerop2012-07-09 21:52

Miserable weather. I like the way the weather changes and the snow melts, then there's green grass. It's alright we don't get to see that in QLD, Australia. Check out this area , it's like a (BIG) ants nest at times.

  29. #29rare ss2012-07-20 06:59

See how these go, the first of x2 D11T with the latest engine package and one made a nice CLUNK and seized after 25hrs, new engine is getting flown in from US

  30. #30robin yates uk2012-07-20 07:03

a new machine seized after 25 hours?

  31. #31Nige2012-07-20 07:23

Not unheard of. Won't be the last one either. Every so often the engine plant will turn out a dud. You always hope it will be someone else who gets it. Red faces all round and customer satisfaction is determined by how fast Cat & the dealer respond and get the machine up & running again.

  32. #32willd8r2012-07-20 17:08

One of the new 979 F's has a similar problem only a few hours new engine needed and one can't get the deck down. Cheers Will
