Can't quite tell from the photo , is that Hot Saw chain wrapped around the drum ?

  2. #2Top Dog2009-03-01 09:49

It is a saw chain, notice the small chips that are discharged, this makes it safe for roadways and high populated areas.

  3. #3td25c2009-03-01 11:17

That's a neet idea ,a drum with saw chain on it.Simple yet effective.Any trouble with vines wrapping on the drum?

  4. #4farmboy5552009-03-01 19:04

That would be a hard chain to file

  5. #5HeyUvaVT2009-03-01 20:30

wow...thats a new one on me....not sure about it tho

  6. #6minimax2009-03-01 23:21

Top dog,do you build this mowers or not,Any links to a web site? minimax

  7. #7Iron Horse2009-03-02 04:45

I doodled with the idea on paper once , a helical groove cut into a thick walled drum for the chain to sit in . It would need a quick release pin on each end so that it could be quickly removed for sharpening . I put it in the too "creative" basket because i thought the chain would get loose on the drum and give trouble . Have you resolved this issue , if an issue at all ?

  8. #8D5G2009-03-03 12:21

What size carrier is that on? Looks like a good tool.

  9. #9Top Dog2009-03-03 22:57

Brush Cutter Minimax, we have built 4 of these. Working with a manufacturing company now to manufacture and market the cutter

  10. #10Top Dog2009-03-03 23:00

Brush Cutter Iron Horse we have solved the loose chain with a simple spring, so far it works great.

  11. #11Top Dog2009-03-03 23:03

Brush Cutter D5G we have it on a Link Belt 2650

  12. #12Top Dog2009-03-03 23:08

farmboy555 It suprised me that a chain will last over 150 hrs before it needs sharping as long as it stays up in trees not on the ground.

  13. #13Top Dog2009-03-03 23:16

25c Some of the prototypes we had early on did have trouble with vines we have since addressed that issue and have eliminated the problem.

  14. #14roddyo2009-03-04 20:55

Location What part of Arkansas are you from?

  15. #15Top Dog2009-03-04 22:27

    From Benton Ar.

  16. #16HeyUvaVT2009-03-05 21:25

how much flow does it require? what kind of pump do you run on it and what is the cutting width?

  17. #17Top Dog2009-03-07 09:52

It only requires 25 gpm, cutting width is 34 in. the motor on it is a gear pump/motor

  18. #18farmboy5552009-03-08 09:49

A chain will stay sharp for a long time if you can keep it in clean wood all the time. We do our log bucking in the log yard by had with chainsaw's and in the wet season when they had mud on them you spend as much time sharping the saw as you do sawing. dennis:Banghead

  19. #19Construct'O2009-03-08 20:59

Are you using( or do you have to have) a oil case drain line back to the tank also from the hydraulic motor ? Good luck:usa

  20. #20Top Dog2009-03-08 21:13

We use motors without a case drain so it will hookup on just auxillary hyd. from the trackhoe.

  21. #21td25c2009-03-08 21:31

As long as you can supply the required gpm and keep the oil cool there should not be any problem. It looks like a good tool Top Dog.

  22. #22Top Dog2009-03-10 20:05

Thanks, when the weather clears up Ill post more pics.

  23. #23HeyUvaVT2009-03-10 21:06

how much pressure do you need?

  24. #24Top Dog2009-03-10 22:34

It will work on 2500 lbs, the motors are rated at 3500 lbs.

  25. #25HeyUvaVT2009-03-11 21:26

so a max of 3500psi? that limits you some as to what you can install them on doesn't it? or do you just turn down the pumps on the carriers?

  26. #26td25c2009-03-11 21:40

I dont think 3500 psi would limit the unit.that covers alot of equipment. If it became an issue, say the carrier put out 5000 psi ,Put a relief valve at the motor bypassing to the return. No need to adjust pressure on the carrier.

  27. #27CRAFT2010-01-21 01:59

Topdog thats got to be one of the simplest ideas i've seen yet , and it looks very effective too ....would love to hear more about this attachment ...... how large of a diam. is the drum and what size of chain is that .... .404 ? ....how many feet do you need to cover the drum .....I ask this just to get an idea of opperating cost to replace the cutter system .....WOW !

  28. #28Panhandler Bob2010-01-21 10:09

Great idea. Are they for sale yet? If so how much? Thanks,:drinkup Bob aka ZZ

  29. #29Top Dog2010-01-25 20:23

Thanks for looking They are going to be for sale soon we are working with some manufacturing companies now to build them. As for price somewhere less than 20K.

  30. #30Top Dog2010-01-25 20:31

Thanks for looking The drum is about 8 in diam. and the chain is BC11 with about 80 ft. as for the replacement of the chain it will go upwards of 300 hrs before sharpening.

  31. #31CRAFT2010-01-26 00:44

Please do keep us informed as things progress. Including any vid clips to see this unit in action ......the concept does sound interesting

  32. #32Top Dog2010-01-26 22:15

YouTube - New chipper for right-of-ways YouTube - New chipper cutting down tree CRAFT Here are a couple of videos, check it out.

  33. #33CRAFT2010-01-27 00:46

I'm still Impressed, it looks a tad slow but that could be due to the excavators flow...... I don't know how to post You-tube clips but if you enter "Quadco mulcher"or "Quadco mower 1 BC 2009" look at the clips with the Cat excavator on it ....I'll post some pics of my Iron with the Quadco 54" head on it

  34. #34CRAFT2010-01-27 00:58

Some pics ..... Top pic is the 72" Davco I use on my 314 size Cat excavator and on my A-300 Skid (pic shows old and new knives, 2 of the knives are hidden, once it starts to spin they are all 4 exposed) bottom is the Quadco 54" I used on my 320 CLU, it requires priority flow of 65 gpm

  35. #35KSSS2010-01-27 01:04

65 gpm. Thats a lot flow. What pressure?

  36. #36CRAFT2010-01-27 01:05

A couple more pics .... top is kind-of a before on the left side and after on the right done with the rotary Davco (65 miles of it).....bottom is the 320 with the Quadco

  37. #37CRAFT2010-01-27 01:08

KSSS, we put the flow meter on it, and it was at ~3200psi ...the rotary only needed 30gpm to run

  38. #38Top Dog2011-11-18 21:59

Here are a few pics of what we have been working on. The boom cutter will be available soon. It will have the belt gaurd on before any leaves the factory.

  39. #39Top Dog2011-11-20 13:21

Give me some feedback, I will post some videos soon.

  40. #40stumpjumper832011-11-22 19:45

looks pretty niffty. If you wanna send me one I'd love to demo one on my takeuchi tb053... Hows production comming along?

  41. #41Top Dog2011-11-24 18:18

stumpjumper83 Dont know if we could make it fit on your takeuchi tb053 this one is for boom mowers. Thanks for looking

  42. #42stumpjumper832011-11-29 20:09

whats the cutter head weight and oil flow required?

  43. #43Top Dog2011-11-30 18:45

Stumpjumper83 The weight for it is around 750 to 800 lb, the oil flow is 35 gpm, pressure is 3000 psi. Should fit on just about any kind of boom mower. Thanks

  44. #44stumpjumper832011-11-30 20:20

I'd feel comfortable with 1500 plus pounds out there. As it is I only have 14.8 gpm @ 3000 psi on my aux. circuit - thats the only downside that Ive found with my tak... oh well. What kinda $$ are we talking for one?

  45. #45Top Dog2011-11-30 20:27

We are going to sit down this Friday and figure the price we have in it. We may have to re-design a couple of parts in it. Should know more after Friday. Thanks

  46. #46rabia2012-06-29 05:04

That brush cutter is kind of new style cutter i don't ever seen that before..

  47. #47andrewpond2012-12-15 19:23

Any up dates on production etc?

  48. #48Top Dog2013-01-27 21:28

We are in talks for a manufacturing company to build it, hopefully it will happen sooner than later. I will keep you informed on any updates. Thanks

  49. #49JDOFMEMI2013-01-27 23:09

Looks like a nice unit. I will be following the progress.
