Just bought a 1983 Cat D4E. Starts with the key out and the start switch in off position. Just put it in neutral give it a little throttle and push the start button. Most of the instruments do not work. Would like to get a wiring diagram for this dozer. Thanks

Best thing you can do is get a complete set of manuals for it. If you read them it will save you tons of money and heartache. You can often find them on e-Bay. They come and go all the time so check often.

And IMHO the manuals on eBay are usually more expensive than new ones. Must be a price premium for all the greasy marks ......... Quote your S/N and I can probably find an Electrical Schematic for it. For manuals try looking in either of the locations below. An Operation & Maintenance Manual will be about $40, a Parts Book maybe $80, and a full Service Manual about $200. https://servicemanualpro.com/ https://www.cat.com/en_US/support/maintenance/service-manuals.html

Back in the day when you could draw an electrical schematic on the back of a cigarette packet ............
