hi guys new to the site. I looked around a little and didn't see anything but surely it has been brought up before. a friend of mine has a (he thinks 1999) new Holland lx885 turbo. I have used the thing many times and seems to have ran fine. it is used around the farm quite often. he called me today asking me to look at it. said that when you start it up it just takes off as if you throttled it up all the way. he says everything still works fine all controls are functional just stays reved up all the time. he said he replaced the throttle cable and knows it is working properly. he thinks it is something electric. I have not looked at it myself yet. I assume that since he says the throttle cable is working correctly has had some one move the throttle lever and watch to see if it was actually working or not. im not a mechanic just know how to use a wrench and pay attention to what im doing. any one ever had this problem or know what it could be? input would be great and if anyone has a link to another post regarding this subject that would be great too. thanks for the help in advance.
See if you can get thepumpguysc's attention on this, but it has a CAV pump on it which may have a sticking fuel metering valve. It is spring controlled on the inside so you have no positive direct control over the throttle position. Usually they will stick in the shut off or idle position but it may be hung on full open. If the control throttle control lever (one closest to the cab) is moving, while it is running, tap on the side of the pump (TAP) and see if it will idle down. I've had them stick in the shutoff position and while starting, tap on it and have them come to life.
I went over to look at it today and one of the mechanics was over there tearing it down he said they had all ready tried tappingon the pump and said it didn't work. We was workin on taking the injector pump off He said the diesel mechanics he talked to said it was the pump. Does this sound like the pump itself would be out of it. Thanks for your help
Sounds like it is internally stuck. As it runs fine other than throttle position, maybe the rebuild won't be too costly.
