I have a 270EX Excavator and i am tired of depending on transport from job to job from a trucking company it has even cost me some work as i could not arrange transportation in time. Anyways i went out and spent $40,000 and bought a 2000 379L peterbilt W/63" sleeper wet kit headache rack and all beacons and dimension sighns she is a beauty and in excellent cndition for her age. The tandem lowboy however is not in the best of shape it needs some brake work and electrical wiring and some tires but i am a jorneyman mechanic bye trade so im not concernd with this as i do all my own repairs. What i would like to know is what i should be charging for adding this to my equipment list as i can now be totally self contained and mobile also i was thinking of doing some custom hauling if i had time i have drove truck i used to pull super b grain bulkers i hold the proper license and my insurance and all is set i just need an idead of what the going rates are for lowboy transport and how i can bill out the use of my own truck/trailer on my jobs. Thanks any infowill be greatly apprecated.

In rural Illinois, I pay $100/hour for transport of my excavator.......on some pretty old trailers

I guess i would need more info in the line of how to work my truck trailer into my quotes ive heard of guys charging an hour load and hour unload time at machine rate to cover equipment moving exspense i used to pay any where from 150-500 depending how far most of my moves are not far just from one farm to another so if i charge $130 per hour for excavator i would make $260 for moving my machine this is fine up to a small radius but after say a 30 mile radius i would need more is this were the hourly trucking rate would come in?

Here our rates are 130/hr. for transports. That's a 07 T800 Dump pulling a Trailmax TRD54-T 3 axle trailer. May have to bump that up soon if fuel keeps going how it is :thumbdown We just charge from leave the yard to back to the yard, but on a longer haul we'll work with the pricing some.

So i would be pretty well right in line with my prevous estimates of around $130hr. I would think that at least a $250 min charge should apply and i am guessing any longer distance hauls would have to be worked out and quoted fairly it all depends on fuel costs and so on.

People do not like to pay the excavator hauling charges. It seems to be easier for the customer to swallow when they get an all inclusive price for the job. You include your moving charges in the total. You can move an EX270 on a tandem lowboy? You must have to get the weight just right.

Ya i plan on working this all into my quotes i guess i just needed to see if my rates i had worked out in my head were going to work i am still learning alot on giving quotes, work i have done is mostly per hour work but i am growing and want to start bidding on larger jobs i run a case 465 skid steer a 14' tandem axle dump trailer hooked to my F-350 a EX 270 excavator a peterbilt 379 with a lowboy and a international tandem dump truck. I would like a mini excavator and a smaller dozer now that i have the ability to haul my own stuff. Most of my work is for farmers buring stone piles, brush clearing, digging ponds/dugouts demo work knocking over old barns and farm propertys. I think the mini would get me alot more work in town as new home building here is going thru the roof.

Another question i have is about leasing on a peice of equipment as an O/O to a larger construction outfit. I have worked in the alberta oil patch mostly on drilling rigs and some equipment hauling and would really like to work out their again as that is where the big dollars are. I was thinking of hauling my EX270 out west for the winter as most of my local work dries up except for snow removal. I was wondering how they pay O/O or if they even hire such do they include fuel or do you get fuel at their discount out of your exspense any help would be great i would like to have some facts fom others before i look more into contacting some of the companys ive been looking into. Any respones would be great from anyone out their thanks.

I don't know what you have for buckets, guarding, catwalks, etc., but I can't even scale my EX270 on a tridem if i have both buckets.

i would not even think about loading a 270 on a triple tag. i move a 225lb and that is plenty. 54,000. lbs. anyways good luck. it looks like the rates are decent up in wyoming we are $95.00 and hour. but do not like moving other peoples stuff. anyways i hate moving equipment in the winter and wish i had a brand new t800 all tricked out with a bad-ass detach. trailer... keep dreaming....

The total truth is i have not even picked up the trailer yet its still in edmonton i got it dirt cheap just need to get up their my grandpa did the purchase. As far as the excavator weight what would you recomend for a trailer i thought for what i use it for it would be good enough in rural sask from one stubble feild to the next but i guess i better look into this if i want to do any long hauls to further job sites i think i may have screwed up what do you need to legaly haul a standard EX270 with two buckets unit has hyd thumb i should have reaserched this more. I guess i was thinking with my good enough farmer train of thought LOL .

you're fine if you have a tandem lowboy ..... don't sweat it. i was talking about a tag that goes behind a tandem dump truck. you should not have any problems

:my2cFor the record, I never intended to give the impression that I would haul HIS 270 with MY setup. SKM wanted to know what people were giving to get their machinery hauled, so I gave him what we were getting in my part of the world. I am not above moving equipment with older rigs, We just don't have one. I am actually looking into a older W900A or 359 tractor setup if the work is there for it.

I think their was alot of confusion here LOL. I know i could never haul it on a tridem tag pulled bye a dump truck i was just asking about what rates i should charge for moving my own equipment and just so i am clear on this i should be good to haul on a tandem lowboy for my machine i understand i may have to move the machine around to find the sweet spot as far as weight distribution goes but hey thats were air susp gauges come in nice. Also in the future what size Bull dozer could i legally haul wth my set up? Thanks guys i appreciate the feed back im new on this site and have only been on my own operating for about two years.

Well take your max legal weight, in the states thats 80.000lbs. subtract weight of truck and trailer, that equal max weight of load. Other factors are the weight specs of the trailer. if its a 35 ton lowboy, one can get oversize permits for the load, just watch your axle weights. Likewize if its a 12 ton model that is going to be the deciding factor - 12's are pretty uncommon though. If your legal to haul your hoe, a dozer of the same weight should be legal as well, provided you can put the weight where you want it.

First Off, You have questions that you should talk to your scales about, second your hourly rates for your 270 are based on your machine and attachments, Alberta road builders and heavy const association have provincial rates for all equipment and trucks...(its just a place to start, i dont always get that god of rates.) As for your lowboy all you can licence a tandem for weather its a 16wheel or a 8 is 17000kg's Unless you buy a hefty permit wich will allow you to go with 3200kg's in the winter on certan roads. so with your 8 wheel trailer and your 8 wheel tractor you are only good for 32000 kg's gross and i am betting your trailer weigghs around 16,000kgs, and your tractor another 5 at the drives which gives you around 11,000kgs that you can legaly carry! (my 270 with wrist and quick coupler weighs around 29,000 kg's and im sure yours ant far off! I went with a triaxle trailer (carry's 24000kg's with a 3m spread) a 16 wheel jeep 34,000 kg's with permit and a tandem booster 17000kgs and a tandem axle kw, and the biggest i can carry with that is a 450D The advantage to a triaxle in canada is that there is no permiting at all unless your unit is over 10' wide ( wich your machine will be so you need a anual over width permit) or your truck and trailer are longer than 100' then you need a empty haul permit! I dont know how serious you are about this stuff but i had to find all of this information on my own and i sure hope you realy call your local dot scale and get some info on this, because my business is profesional and i am a bit more expencive because i have all of my permits and C.O.R,Comply works and insurance to pay and i hate people that think they can do this stuff when they want. Good luck to you and hope you do well !
