A friend sent me this a couple of weeks ago. You can slow the video down and review it several times, but you will not be able to spot the IED before it goes off. The hole it left in the pavement is matched only by the holes in those guys shorts.
I would say they burried the explosives inside a drainige pipe under the road. rofessor Bet it also was some filling on top of the pipe. And thats one of the reasons for the slow lifting of the road and asphalt. Some of the force of the explosion provably went out of the pipe to the sides too.:yup A bigger charge and less overfill, would have made a different result. No way u would get time to swing aside and pass it.. On edit: you can see som black spots on the ground to the left of the road of the explosion spot. Draining systems on the iraqi roads are still functioning and in good shape. In the south the where made of concrete and covered with bathroom tiles....
i seen something black falling out if sky right before the explosion
Hmmm, those black spots appear throughout the video though. There's one right at the start for example. My cousin's APC type thing, (It has 8 wheels, some sort heavy gun and is fast - don't know what they're called) was hit by a road side bomb as the convoy were escorting visitors to the airport. They were lucky as it had more armor than his usual ride, due to the detail they were on. It trashed the APC and sent three of them to hospital - one bloke died! It seems a tough way to earn a quid.
nope, at 7 seconds i definetly see a small explosive fall out of sky.
Yes, I was going to post "+1" to your original post, but then watched it a few more times. I see what you are talking about at 7 secs - true enough! but the same thing is there at 0.25 secs - lets say the second frame in, 7 secs as said and again at late 9 secs - lets say 10 secs spot. Have another look and tell me what you think. Nasty! whatever it is.
I hear u guy's. But a hole created by a mortar isn't that big and throws out a huge bang, a lot of splinters and a rather small hole in the asphalt. (I've seen a few in Bosnia in 95 when the war was going on.) Thats because most of the exploding force goes out in the air above the asphalt.(easiest way) The mortar explodes normaly when it hits the ground. And it's 10 times as deadly on that distance, than the explosion showed here. And that explosion is imidiately in a split second. Thats because there is no material slowing and stopping the exploding force. Again, u can se the earth rising, so there's got to be something slowing down the exploding forces.(the road base) Most
