More than a Fillipino or Fijian cutter though. New Zealand has mainly a log export focus which is a cyclical trade so downturns can mean quite a few layoffs. In the last downturn the hauler crews in places were switched off first because they are high cost operations. It is often a case of asking the right people for work rather than expecting to see a job advertised. Brian Tuor has been down here and schooled a few operations. Work visa - would probably not be overly difficult to obtain. Visit the relevant websites.

When you look up jobs they would be listed under Harvester operator (instead of processor)

There is always jobs available for top workers and the money is paid according to how good you are. A good yarder or processor operator will take home upwards of $1000 for a 40 hour week after taxes and a good cutter will start around $850 per week It all depends on your experience and productivity. try http://www.trademe.co.nz/jobs/agriculture-fishing-forestry/forestry

Have a look here for pertinent information: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/ .It would be a hell of alot easier to find out what you need to know and have before contacting prospective employer's in NZ.The very best idea is to go to NZ on a holiday, have a look around, ask some Logging Contractors if you could come out and see their operations for a day. Most guys would be only to willing to let you do this. This vist would help you decide wether its for you or not. Another factor to consider apart from wages is the cost of living in different parts of NZ.Wages tend to be higher in the North Island than the South Island, but the living costs are lower in the South generally Speaking. All the the very best of luck! Mike

I have recently started a cutter from Canada, a general hand from Sweden and I have a loader operator from Vancouver starting in Jan we have accreditation to help fast track the visa process for the right people which helps, this is usually a month or otherwise it can take up to eight months to get the visa. I'm more than happy to give someone an opportunity if they want , at the moment I would love a couple of mechanics if anyone is interested??
