My excacavator is making bad noise when swinging kind of like grinding. Isn't very smooth when swinging neither, "jerky". Is it in swing gear box maybe?? Machine is 2001 model but only has 3400 hrs on it. The swing bearing doesn't have any movement up and down when checking it
your swing motor box may be loose... there should be an access plate to check see the ring gear, I would look in there first at several places just to make sure it's greased and not full of metal. After that the next place to check would be in the actual swing motor gearbox. Also when you check the ring gear if there is water standing in there you 'will' have icing problems when it drops below freezing which can lead to other costly issues.
