Good stuff Rockbreaker. Looks cold there. Keep em coming.

  2. #2bobcat ron2008-01-14 10:32

What's with the VA boom on the last pic of the excavators, I always see those VA booms on almost every European excavator pic.

  3. #3MKTEF2008-01-14 13:08

I'll add some pics here too

  4. #4Rockbreaker2008-01-14 13:43

VA boom Hello That cat 330 has not an VA boom but an demolition boom(you can change to an high lift attacment) VA booms is very standard here but mainly on wheel excavators because of the flexibility many thinks you get whit that boom. If you have an drilling attacment many belive that VA boom is the thing too have on crawlers also(beacuse of the flexibility when operating the drilling attacment) Hope you understand what i tried to explain:Cowboy

  5. #5bobcat ron2008-01-14 14:33

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the reasons for all the VA booms on excavators under the 22 ton class in Europe, yet here in North America, they aren't even an option, only on the wheeled excavators.

  6. #6385c JR2008-01-14 16:37

    D10 Some pics from me

  7. #7385c JR2008-01-14 16:44

    365c ...and some more

  8. #8Rockbreaker2008-01-14 17:06

GRRRRRReat pics WOOOOOOOOW man you are the man:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy But i cant understand why you are smiling so much on the picture there?

  9. #9Eric2008-01-14 17:22

Holy Cow! Thats cool stuff. 365 is a sweet machine!

  10. #10Construct'O2008-01-14 17:52

Thanks for sharing!!!!!! I'd me smiling also if i had a new machine like that to run. Question for you? What is behind the panels on the left side of the machine above the radiator grill ??????? They almost look like solar panels:beatsme :usa

  11. #11637slayer2008-01-14 20:59

good pics, ide be smiling too. the trailer that was was hauling the dozer and your hoe, looked pretty cool. was it legal for on highway, or do you guys just use it for offroad? here in the U.S. i dont ever see setups like that.

  12. #12Rockbreaker2008-01-15 00:58

Ready for more? Here is the last machine i operated. Volvo ec 180blc with rototilt and gps.

  13. #13MKTEF2008-01-15 11:57

Hey 637Slayer. That trailer is JR's own transport rigg. Its only intended for on-road use. I would not use it to much off-road. The pic where u see the D10 from behind is at a DOT controll post.(Minnesund) He has just drove it off the scales and parked for the picture. I beliewe he may be waiting for the DOT escort, but normaly they change a bit further north. If am not wrong, he still got some to go on weight with that setup. 5+5 axles is a big rigg here.

  14. #14bobcat ron2008-01-15 15:06

Volvo has one of the best hydraulic couplers I've ever seen, much better than the WBM and CWS hydro-wedge system. BTW, what's the name of the company that makes the red leveler device?

  15. #15MKTEF2008-01-15 15:11

That looks like an SMP coupler, aint that right rockbreaker? They are very popular around here. Volvo might got a identical one, they buy/start to use good design when the customers starts to demand them. On edit, looks like volvo on the exc and SMP on the buckets/accessories.

  16. #16385c JR2008-01-15 15:29

Well, I thinke you do... Honestly I dont know. Actually we was pulled over for controll. The weight was ok as it (almost) always is when Martin hauling... :notworthy:notworthy:notworthy

  17. #17Rockbreaker2008-01-15 15:45

Level device Hey bobcat Ron. The level device is an swedish product sold in Norway . It works great and is easy to use if you have an rototilt over it.you can level floors etc on no time. RF System is the name of the producer. Maybe some of our swedish friends have an adress to a internet page? Mkft i do not remember the brand on the quik qupler(Wrong word??) but the company had 4 machines with the same system so we could borrow equpment from each other:scool

  18. #18Per Eriksson2008-01-15 16:02

www.rf-system.se The coupler has a standard called "B20" and it's very common here but it's loosing grunds to what's called "s40", "s60" etc's rf has a page with dimension for them if your interested.

  19. #19637slayer2008-01-15 18:21

here in the U.S. it usually takes a triple axle trailer with a dolly on the back of it to bridge the weight legally, when hauling something as heavy as a 10,that transport setup in your pics was sweet, but i liked the pic of the hoe better.

  20. #20bobcat ron2008-01-15 19:34

They obviously build the couplers for Volvo, seeing as how the 2 names are from Sweden.

  21. #21DPete2008-01-15 21:15

Thanks for posting pics, fun to see what's going on around the globe. Nice looking iron

  22. #22Rockbreaker2008-01-18 02:40

  23. #23Countryboy2008-01-18 03:19

Sorry Rockbreaker, had to remove the 4th picture. We try to keep the site clean enough for the whole family to view. Scantly clad women are aren't allowed here.

  24. #24Rockbreaker2008-01-18 03:31

    Ok See your point Countryboy:Cowboy

  25. #25Countryboy2008-01-18 04:03

Thanks for understanding. The rest of your pictures are great though. :drinkup

  27. #27bobcat ron2008-01-18 10:54

Ah crap, I missed the boat on the removed pic, PM it to me maybe????

  28. #28Rockbreaker2008-01-18 11:57

Its in the mail for you:beerchug

  29. #29MKTEF2008-01-18 12:02

Hey Rockbreaker, looks like you and countryboy got the same job.:cool2 Only difference is, he is handling /filling trainwagons with gravel.. And u both spend to much time in front of the PC.... By the way, 365C JR wasn't working today. His baby was sitting by the road at Dal. And i found JR's D10, working together with the D6. And u can litteraly see what it use diesel for.. Was in a hurry to reach kindergarten, so i didn't ask for a test ride...next time.... Only pictures today.

  30. #30bobcat ron2008-01-18 12:06

Looks like they are just playing around!

  31. #31MKTEF2008-01-18 12:14

Theese babies was also waiting for their operators. Was a bit surprized to see original cat buckets on them. Aint the best design for rock handling.... And 3 pics from a site further north. All pics is from a new highway project; JR is on the south(Mesta), and Haehre is on the north end. Haehre got 3 zaxis like the one pictured and a 365 on that end.(780?) +a number of smaler machines, drilling-riggs and cool stuff. A bit difficult to take pics from inside the car. Low speed though, its friday and weekend queues. And a speed reducton trough the site.

  32. #32MKTEF2008-01-18 12:17

Well Ron it was a huge pile there when i arrived. They mixed som of it, and removed the rest out to the right. The 6 pushed some of it in front of the D10 so it got mixed together. I only had time for a couple of minutes.....

  33. #33Rockbreaker2008-01-18 15:12

Hello Ron. The operator on the d10 JR dozer is never playing around. He is the hardest rock in the pile ,you know the one who never break? Give that guy his tobaco, coffe and the smell of diesel and he goes on forever. Hard as they come and a wonderful nice guy to talk to:drinkup:drinkup:drinkup

  34. #34385c JR2008-01-18 16:42

I can confirm that he never playing around. He has a exhaust leakage on the D10, so some of the exhaust komes in to the cabine. He is rather dirty when the shift is over. He just laughing and gets the job done. :notworthy:notworthy:notworthy Never complayns, always in good mood. The best driver in the firm.

  35. #35MKTEF2008-01-18 17:19

That explains his rather, easy, driving today! Not so much trottle, when moving around. But still, it made som black Cat smoke, and did its job.

  36. #36Rockbreaker2008-01-19 10:40

Info Hey Mktef The hitachi Hæhre got is 870 or 670 it seems. Mesta has bought an 365 for that same job as well.

  37. #37MKTEF2008-01-19 15:22

To me it looked like he got one 870, the one pictured. And 2x 670's a bit to the south of this one. If i have some extra time next time i pass, there will be some good pics of more stuff.

  38. #38Rockbreaker2008-01-22 08:29

More pics.. You want more pics from Norway or what? Here is more pics from where i work

  39. #39MKTEF2008-01-22 15:32

Nice pics Rockbreaker.:notworthy Are u satisfied with the Volvo's? And another one, what drilling rigg do u operate at the quarry?

  40. #40Rockbreaker2008-01-22 15:55

Hello Mktef The volvos are running like a dream no problems there :drinkup Hæhre does the drilling for us out here. Came whit a brand new d9 Atlas machine last time. No cab for the poor operator on that one....:Banghead But if you are a viking you do not mind freezing:yup

  41. #41Rockbreaker2008-01-23 09:32

On and on Here is some more.. Pics are excavators with cranes on for Powerline building and repair

  42. #42bobcat ron2008-01-23 10:37

Got anymore pics? That's the wildest application I've seen so far.

  43. #43alco2008-01-23 13:02

Awwwe, I missed it too, and I like scantily clad women even more than I like equipment.......and I REALLY like equipment! Brian

  44. #44MKTEF2008-01-23 14:54

Here you go. Pictures from Hallingmast AS. Brings back memorys from a summerjob i had building fundaments for theese type of powerlines with a Kobelco 903.:cool2 Helitransport each morning, digging, concrete work, earth cabling and mowing all the stuff with a helicopter.(without the 903) Going from point to point along the line with another team. When terrain got real bad, the Kobelco was dismanteled and flown/mounted with a Bell 214.

  45. #45bobcat ron2008-01-23 15:10

That is wild, is there a separate power unit for the man lift, or does it run off the excavator's system?

  46. #46MKTEF2008-01-23 15:23

It's a standard truck crane mounted to the exc. Takes hydraulic power from the exc. I see the 315B got a generator or compressor under the original battery compartment driven by hydraulics. I bet its a compressor, real nice when mounting a lot of bolts. On the Kobelco, he's got the crane radiocontrolled. Todays regulations demand a radiocontroll to be in the lift. There has been a lot of accidents with baskets. Real strict regulations now. Radiocontroll, emergency switch, escape rope, harness connected to the basket, low lifting capasity/high security limit. You may have 400 pounds in the basket, while the crane lifts 1000 pounds on that reach.

  47. #47Rockbreaker2008-01-23 15:27

Good question.. I can see a tank on the 315 i front of the diesel tank but... Maybe Mktef knows :beatsme

  48. #48MKTEF2008-01-23 15:30

There is a hydraulic engine driving that "tank".

  49. #49MKTEF2008-01-23 15:41

A couple of more pics of the same type. Typical Norwegian roads when out in the bush... The forrest machine got a Palfinger 72002, means 140 000 pounds/3 foot lifting capasity... And thats a big crane.

  50. #50Colin Doy2008-01-23 16:09

Top pic shows a nice Mercedes Actros MKTEF Are Hallingmast a big company?

  51. #51Rockbreaker2008-01-23 16:59

On and on More pics coming up.. This is from a road built somewhere in Norway. The crane digs up soil to get a more stabil ground for the road. Enjoy :woohoo Ps: what do you think of the fjords??

  52. #52Rockbreaker2008-01-24 08:08

Seen this before? Have you guys seen this before? Here its many farmer and machine owners who tink this is good idea. But i hane not seen any USA pics like this yet :beatsme

  53. #53Construct'O2008-01-24 11:47

First picture looks like class13 material that we used on our last road job!:drinkup The other pictures of the farmers .I thought our farmers had way to much money???? Here they use old lowboy trailer with dolly fifth wheel hitch and tongue to move there dozers around with there tractors.Where'd that Deere come from?:usa

  54. #54d4c24a2008-01-24 11:49

uk version we have them in the uk ,its handy for moving the D4 about cheers graham

  55. #55MKTEF2008-01-24 13:59

Hello Colin. No Hallingmast is a smal firm. They got 10-15 machines/trucks. They have specialised in mounting, refurbishing and dismounting big powerlines in tough terrain. A niche company with very special equipment....

  56. #56Countryboy2008-01-24 21:37

Correct me if I'm wrong, the axles on some of those trailers are actually drive axles driven off the PTO shaft. I used to have a lot of pictures of those trailers. One was a water 5000 gal. water tank that had 6 drive axles. It had a large Fendt tractor pulling it.

  57. #57Rockbreaker2008-01-25 01:31

Sorry CB but you are wrong on that one.. No extra drive on the axles of the trailers from the PTO. Only need a tractor with a big engine and you are set to go. When you are 16 years old you can get a license for tractor. Cars are 18 and trucks are 21.

  58. #58Countryboy2008-01-25 01:45

Not any of them....at all. I could've sworn I saw somewhere that some had drive axles. Oh well, I learned something new today. Thanks for clearing that up. :drinkup

  59. #59Lashlander2008-01-25 03:03

Thats interesting. I grew up in Idaho and you get a daylight only drivers license when your 14. It goes unlimited when you turn 18. I've never heard of such a thing but it sure got me thinking about the gearing. The PTO runs off the engine speed. I suppose they could gear it to match in first gear so if you were stuck, kick in the PTO and push yourself out. Id probably start catching gears and leave little parts all over the highway, again!!!!!!!!! Cool pictures Rockbreaker. Interesting countryside. I like the clam.

  60. #60Countryboy2008-01-25 03:10

Now that makes since :thumbsup. I hadn't thought about the gearing and how that would work. Sorry to get off track Rockbreaker...please continue.

  61. #61Rockbreaker2008-01-25 03:47

Ok No worries CB. Good to learn something new or what? I always like hearing what you guys do and think that is very interesting. And now i came across some more pics. You know something old, something new something ........ Goes on forever that frase:sleeping

  62. #62Lashlander2008-01-25 09:57

Looks like your blasting a utility trench to that windmill? Whats with the pipe going into the saddles in the last picture?

  63. #63d4c24a2008-01-25 10:49

multidrive i know that multidrive made driven trailers for the military some time ago i have also seen pictures of large muck spreaders with a driven axle i will try to find some pictures but with so many books and magazines its hard to remember where i saw them:Banghead thanks graham

  64. #64MKTEF2008-01-25 11:09

Youre right all of you. There is tractor trailers with driven axles. And some of the big tractors got a PTO that is ground dependent and can be switched to engine driven. A UK firm has made a tractor(truck) with a fifth wheel and a trailer that is driven by the axle on the tractor. U get a "8x6" out of a 2 axle tractor pulling a two axle trailer. UK Army got theese as fuel transporters. A special system with the driveshaft between the tractor and trailer. And theese are extreme in the terrain Here is a picture. When u know what to search for it goes quick. But sorry no picture of the driveshaft

  65. #65d4c24a2008-01-25 11:42

multidrive hi mktef that looks like a foden with the multidrive driven/ steer axle link http://www.sovereign-publications.com/multidrive1.htm thanks graham

  66. #66Rockbreaker2008-01-25 12:27

That is a waterpipe put toghether and pushed over a river one by one. When its finished the pipeline lays on the bottom of the river all across. Easier done on dry land than under all that water see opcorn

  67. #67Rockbreaker2008-01-25 18:19

Wheel excavators whit attacment Many say that we Norwegian are crazy about extra equpment on our machines but our neigbours are even more crazy (if you can be??) Yes that will be Sweden

  68. #68Rockbreaker2008-01-25 18:23

And some more while im am in the flow:drinkup

  69. #69Rockbreaker2008-01-25 18:27

    Last ones.

  70. #70Dozerboy2008-01-25 18:29

That last one cracks me up all that to add a little rock to the shoulder of the road.

  71. #71bobcat ron2008-01-25 18:43

No kidding, I ran one of those wheeled units before and always wanted to pull a trailer for the extra buckets, but I always got called "crazy" and "lazy" for some reason.

  72. #72Rockbreaker2008-01-25 19:10

Here in Norway and sweden most of the wheel excavators have a trailer where they got buckets, dieseltank and what equpment you got on. Have also seen some who had the car hooked to the trailer so you if you move the machine you got the car with you. Also easy to use if you have some left over material you can put it on the trailer and take it to where it needs to go. I like the picture of the FH(Fiat-Hitachi) who`s got the broom

  73. #73Rockbreaker2008-01-26 06:16

Well the swedes are very careful with money so i think its for saving some of it on bying gravel. Buy gravel i say,so i got a job:cool2

  74. #74RollOver Pete2008-01-26 13:52

I have never been around , let alone operated a wheeled excavator. By looking at all of the available attachments and the overall versatility of the machine, I can't believe that there are so few of them here in So. Cal. The visions that race through my mind.......:idea The things I could do if I were to get my grubby little hands on one of them wheeled machines.....:naughty And you guys think that I carry lots of stuff in my Dodge Ram? I'd need at least a set of doubles to hold all of the attachments, tools, things and stuff....... Still not sure how I'd get me truck to fit? Maybe tow it behind everything else? Or maybe use my Dodge as the tow vehicle? Oh.... my head is spinning....:dizzy The possibilities are endless...

  75. #75385c JR2008-01-26 15:15

My house Some things to do with a wheel excavator.

  76. #76Rockbreaker2008-01-27 08:44

No bomb there.. One guy working and two men just hanging around:deadhorse And Pete maybe you could have a talk with the managment at ECCO and make them buy some of the stuff you seen here. Say you need a gold card and two weeks off to go to Swedwn and do some research before they buy something:drinkup

  77. #77Neil D2008-01-27 10:57

rubber ducks Roll over Pete, I hired one of these wheelies ( also known as a rubber duck here in the uk) a few years ago for a weeks work as a tracked 360 was unsuitable. NEVER again!!!! my hats off to the guys that drive them-in my opinion unstable brutes that pull themselves into the trench if you as much as poke the bucket anywhere near it! Neil

  78. #78wormkiller2008-01-27 11:33

Was there one hoe pulling a stone box with a chain? Sorry I got no pics, I bet someone else can post a real miser pic. Funny how some operators have to make do with nothing but one bucket let alone a wrist, forks, wheels, brooms, ditchin blades and coffee makers. The 215 cat I learned had only a wore thin 48". I never hung high lines but could do all right on everything else, even set barn trusses and some beams for houses. Sometimes you use the only tools you have.

  79. #79Tegian2008-01-27 14:48

Ever thought about were the idea of the articulated dump trucks came from? A driven tractor pulled dump trailer with the tractors front wheels removed gives you a adt!

  80. #80Rockbreaker2008-01-27 16:43

Are you ready for more? Norway is located by the north sea so there can be some hard weather conditions up here some times. I worked up on the snow white prosjekt up in the north of Norway for 14 days back in 2003. This was in january and we worked one week night shift and one week of day shift. Sitting there on the second night driving a D10R bulldozer there was a snow blizzard and i could not see the blade on the bulldozer outside. It was just snow every where for about and half hour. Then you see the power of nature and that makes you think a bit. But it was a nice expirience and avesome nature up there. So i think that you can see some pics of some machinery working on the coast line and make up your own mind:slomo

  81. #81bobcat ron2008-01-27 18:43

Wow, I like that extenda-hoe set up on the excavator, how many stages, 2 or 3?

  82. #82Eric2008-01-27 22:45

Thanks for posting those pics. I would love to see that in person someday. But dang it looks FREEZING. We get an annual snow fall of about 6'' where I live. Matter of fact it has yet to snow here this year.

  83. #83JDOFMEMI2008-01-27 23:28

Rockbreaker Thanks for the great pictures. You have quite a variety. Its always nice to see how work is done in other areas. Keep up the good pics!

  84. #84Rockbreaker2008-01-28 01:18

I do belive it is 2 stages. They also have an ordinary stick to put on the ex when its not in water jobs. And thanks all for the kind words. There will be more:exactly

  85. #85Lashlander2008-01-28 01:38

Once more excellant pictures! How much tide do you have in that area?

  86. #86CascadeScaper2008-01-28 01:48

    Those are some gnarly pics!

  87. #87Rockbreaker2008-01-28 02:03

Well after a check for today it is 30centimeters up and down But i am not a weather man but that sound right to me

  88. #88Rockbreaker2008-01-28 12:30

I said there will be more Some more pics of everyting. Pics two and three are a machine who put draining system deep down on places that need to lower the water height on a bigger area. Rest of them are just to enjoy:drinkup

  89. #89bobcat ron2008-01-28 12:42

    A Zaxis 210?? Since when?

  90. #90Rockbreaker2008-01-28 13:18

Well my good man i think they have sold them here in Norway for some years now. Ever since Hitachi broke the deal with Fiat, they introduced the zaxis series. Sold from zx75 and upwards i think

  91. #91d4c24a2008-01-28 13:26

210 been about in europe for a number of years now,i dont think you can get it in the usa :beatsme

  92. #92Rockbreaker2008-01-29 13:54

Even more pics More pics from Norway coming up. Some classic equipment, blastings and a new D8T laying out roadbearing guided by device you se in the picture. Lines, curving and the with on the road is sent out from that thing that i do not know what you call:beatsme

  93. #93Rockbreaker2008-01-30 10:13

    More Well here you go:cool2

  94. #94bobcat ron2008-01-30 11:19

That first pic is breath taking, nice scenery.

  95. #95Rockbreaker2008-01-30 14:19

Yea Norway is a land with many fjords and mountains behind.:waving

  96. #96Young James2008-01-30 14:40

    man.....all those pics are wild!

  97. #97Rockbreaker2008-01-30 15:45

Good to hear you like the pics First dozer i was so lucky to ride was an D4D just like the one in the second picture. Jumping around and trying to make a good mark behind me. But most of the time i was:cussing beacuse it was hard as a newbi to acomplish what i wanted on that thing. The undercarrige on it is so short, so if you do not keep a steady hand you make speed bumps all over the place. And that leads to more:cussing:guns:cussing But i survived and can think back at it now with a smile, beacuse i got the hang of it at last and that was a good feeling:bouncegri

  98. #98EZ TRBO2008-01-30 16:05

Great pics, thanks again for sharing. Trbo

Another day.. Another picture or more

  101. #101bobcat ron2008-01-31 14:19

    Talk about action shots!

  102. #102Rockbreaker2008-01-31 17:09

Thanks BRon I love the last picture, that is winter:exactly Will be more of my workplace tomorrow maybe so keep looking

  103. #103Grader4me2008-01-31 17:45

    Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.

  104. #104637slayer2008-02-01 01:07

those pictures are crazy, i thought we worked in some mountains, you guys are almost always up in the mountains, "death on one side, 20 years in the hospital on the other" the pic with the track hoe sitting in the middle of all the mud, are you building new road through there, was the old road under all the mud, and lastly, if it is a new road were you gonna pave it?

  105. #105Rockbreaker2008-02-01 04:12

Hey mister. I think they just where digging a a trench for draining of some water. Maybe that was needed there? Found some more pics from the same job paved and ready for traffic

  106. #106637slayer2008-02-01 12:34

thanx, once again keep the norway pics coming please. ide really like to see a scraper with some of your big mountains in the background, but most of the pics so far dont look like a scraper would do very good in pure rock or mud.

  107. #107MKTEF2008-02-01 12:51

It has excisted 2 scrapers here in Norway. Those two where running in the sixties on some projects in the south east. Around Gardermoen, flat with sand and clay... It was also one waterwagon around as u call it. They where parked after a couple of projects... Too much rock and stones around here, plus the frozen ground from oktober to may/june. The scrapers belongs to a guy who still got a lot of old equipment around his barn.(don't know if he still got them, lives around Hokksund) The army workshops bought a Internatinl Hough wheeldozer from the guy last year. V12 engine in it, refurbished now, and still working. They pull the Leo 2 tanks with it. 110 000pounds in and out of the workshop. It smokes so bad when starting it, that the firealarm goes on, and workers have to leave if u do that too.

  108. #108Rockbreaker2008-02-01 14:23

You are a wickipedia on two feet MKTEF:notworthy And of course you are right, with the ground conditions here a scraper is not a investment to make money from. Found some pics on a web site today about some guys rebuilding the hill for ski jump that was used at the olymoics in 1994 at Lillehammer. Pretty steep this slope:woohoo Last picture is from another ski jump arena the same firm built.

  109. #109bobcat ron2008-02-01 14:53

That 4th pic makes me feel dizzy, I take it the Snow Cat is the "groomer", but is it tethered off the top?

  110. #110Rockbreaker2008-02-01 15:13

The machine in front of the first pic i think is the one the fourth pic is taken from inside of. They connect it to a steel wire on the top so they can help it up again. Would you set of on jump ski there Ron? Got about 55-60 mph when you take of the jump

  111. #111Young James2008-02-01 15:34

haha.........I think that rock is a bit of an overkill for that loader!

  112. #112Rockbreaker2008-02-01 15:46

You are so right there James.. Bet the boss told him to get it out of the way so he is just trying to avoid beeing fired i think

  113. #113MKTEF2008-02-01 15:48

I woun't say that, it was a story about the guy in A&T.(A earthmowing and transport magazine) Then out of that, our guy's at RTV(Romerike Tekniske Verksted) saw the wheeldozer. Next time i visit RTV i'll get some pics of Dyret II. And u know, when u are interrested and work with heavy equipment u pick up a lot every day.

  114. #114MKTEF2008-02-01 16:27

Hei Rockbreaker. In the post #93 u got 3 dozers and a cat exc.(Classic equipment) Do you know where it was taken? Looks like equipment from a relative of me.....

  115. #115bobcat ron2008-02-01 17:57

No but I got a few R/C trucks I wouldn't mind getting some major air with off that ramp!

  116. #116Rockbreaker2008-02-01 18:12

Hi MKTEF. The classic pic was taken from the Syltern web page. Think it was from kjøli 1989 if i am not wrong. As i read it they were building a dam there Love the pic as i started on a 225 and 213 cat in 88 myself. The 213 was originally a Eder but cat bought them so they called the former Eder 815 model Cat 213. Had some fun getting that thing up and down from the trailers when transporting, beacuse the undercarrige was very short you had to go high up on the trailer before it went down on it and it was very tochy and the pedals too.Had brake pedal on the swing like OK had for many years too. Like you maybe under stand this machine was never my dream machine but the old 225 was a dream to run. But when you work in a father and son company you have to accept what you get and make the best of it

  117. #117MKTEF2008-02-02 11:34

I see. A relative of me had an old D6 with a cabin like the one there, a D5 like that one, a new D8 and some 200 series exc. And that was in the same period. From -88. There was some work up on Saltfjellet with thoose machines. Started myself in a Volvo 5350B on the south side of Saltfjellet in -88. The new road still lies there today.

  118. #118Rockbreaker2008-02-02 14:45

Howdy MKTEF. Funny to hear you started the same year as me operating But it is time for more pics or what:beatsme Hope you like them.

  119. #119bobcat ron2008-02-02 15:17

A 280 Hitachi???? Must be a Euro version.

  120. #120Rockbreaker2008-02-02 15:23

Of course it is What hitachi models do you have in the US?

  121. #121bobcat ron2008-02-02 15:27

Only 17-50, 60,75,80,110,125,120,150,160, 200,225, 230, 250,270,300,330. No odd ones like that 280 or 210 or 190. That is very odd that I see those machines there with those numbers.

  122. #122Rockbreaker2008-02-02 18:05

Ok Ron i checked with the distributor in Norway and this is the models they sell in Norway: Mini Ex: 10/16/18/22/25/27/30/35/40/50 Zero tail minis: 27/35/40/50 Excavators: 70/80/110/130/160/180/210/250/280/350/470/520/670/870 All zaxis models. Zero tail models: 85/135/225 Wheeled excavators: 140/170/190/210 All zaxis models. Hope that cleared it for you mister

  123. #123bobcat ron2008-02-02 18:13

I wonder why the numbers would be different? I'll bet it's a conspiracy.

  124. #124Rockbreaker2008-02-02 18:26

Well... It just might be the old thing of Why take the easy road when you can take a longer harder way to get it done. But i do not have an engineer exam so :beatsme

  125. #125Rockbreaker2008-02-04 03:21

More You guys want more or what? Here you go....

  126. #126Construct'O2008-02-04 13:36

Last pic looks to be a heck of a way to go trout fishing. So what is he doing by the way?

  127. #127MKTEF2008-02-04 14:09

He is most likely preparing the bottom for the waterline thats floating behind. They have put concrete weights on it, fill it with water, and it lays stable on the bottom. It is not uncommon to float theese lines from the fabric to the community that needs them. Then u don't need to weld them for each 35 feet... A limitation in wavehights though...

  128. #128Rockbreaker2008-02-04 14:56

MKTEF has the answer for that one (as always):notworthy But if do get fish that means dinner :yup

  129. #129Rockbreaker2008-02-05 01:44

Mini ADT?? Found this little machine for sale here today. Produced in Germany but it looks a lot like Hydrema from Denmark.

  130. #130Steve Frazier2008-02-05 11:02

I was staring at this thing trying to figure out how they managed to have the dump work both ways and finally realized it's two different trucks.

  131. #131bobcat ron2008-02-05 11:38

Same here, although a company who build custom rail road dumpers made a triple function dumper once for a flat car.

  132. #132Rockbreaker2008-02-05 13:52

Yes it is two different trucks but you can tip the dump both ways just by using different locking on it. If you see close on the pict where you see the cylinder, you see two places where there is a possibility to change the direction for the dump. In the pic both of them are open and both on the other side are locked, but if you bolt in the rear and open the two in the front it should tip backwards as in the first pic i think. Some trucks in Norway has the same system. Hydrema has another system where you swing the dump sideways and tip. Got a pic of the Hydrema and hope you understood the explanation on the one from Germany:idea

  133. #133Young James2008-02-05 15:09

I don't know anything about sideways dumping, but wouldn't that make the truck very unstable? Is there some sort of air system that deflates itself on one side or something? Really cool all the same

  134. #134Rockbreaker2008-02-05 15:47

Hey there James. No air system needed beacuse the gravity point is very low and centered its not a problem to tip it sideways. But if these two models are to big i found another one for you

  135. #135bobcat ron2008-02-05 17:55

That little dumper actually has a massive undercarriage for it's size.

  136. #136BIGBEN20042008-02-05 18:09

I like that little track dumper. That thing teamed up with a Ditch Witch walk behind track skid steer would move allot of dirt in a day on a tight job.

  137. #137Rockbreaker2008-02-06 02:14

Norwegian excavator Broyt For many years Broyt produced excavators in Norway. Very easy built machines with good quality. Company was bought by Sandvik some years ago Only made front shovel excavators for mining the last years. Anyway here are some pics for you:cool2

  138. #138alco2008-02-06 02:27

We were looking for a couple of small walk behnd dumpers like that for a job we were doing. Never could find any around, so we ended up using a Kubota K008 and loading small stacking conveyors directly. I had no idea Broyt had built excavators, nice to learn. The only thing I have ever seen is the shovels. Certainly an interesting machine. Brian

  139. #139Rockbreaker2008-02-07 01:58

More pics I have more for all of you to enjoy:drinkup

  140. #140BIGBEN20042008-02-07 08:08

Some of your pictures could make a fun restoration project for those who are good at that kind of thing. Also for those with deep pockets.

  141. #141Rockbreaker2008-02-07 14:13

Yes.. Deep pockets and a good wiev on life is needed when taking on restoring that one:wink2 Got more pics while i am on the good roll

  142. #142bobcat ron2008-02-07 15:20

Is that little mini cleaning out the gravel from the water fall?

  143. #143Rockbreaker2008-02-07 16:38

Yes my good man he is beacuse of the waterfall it comes down much gravel too and they have to clean it sometimes. Lonely ranger that one,far up on a mountain all alone just sitting in a pool

  144. #144bobcat ron2008-02-07 17:26

I'd love to have that job, although nature would call quite often with all that running water!

  145. #145BIGBEN20042008-02-07 17:45

He even has a little camper their too. Wonder if he lives up their.

  146. #146Rockbreaker2008-02-08 00:47

Yes they live up there for some months or so. Many places helicopter is the only transport availabel

  147. #147Lashlander2008-02-08 01:22

Ahhh yes, The crew ride! More nice pics by the way Rockbreaker.:thumbsup

  148. #148Rockbreaker2008-02-08 09:30

Thanks Lash for the great helicopter pics:beerchug What about the eartmover from Norway? Moxy and the new model mt 51:yup Pic #3 is the first model from Moxy and the new Mt51. Can`t find that man with the Norwegian flag

  149. #149Young James2008-02-08 09:41

wow, that's an impressive interior, looks mighty comfy!

  150. #150BIGBEN20042008-02-08 09:46

I like the Helicopter. It sure beats a crew cab diesel pickup

  151. #151MKTEF2008-02-08 09:55

I wasn't paying enough attention here Rockbreaker! You where posting pics from Hvalsmoen! Thats our D7 with cable winch lift and the crane in the background. It got all the extras; hook, grab, system for dragline, ramming system, etc. I got one delievered at Rena before the snow came... Check this: That particular D7 might have ended up on the Defence museum together with the crane pictured. We still got the crane i know for shure! The museum took the nice stuff and left us with the rest. The D7 we got is a 1951 modell.

  152. #152Rockbreaker2008-02-08 11:43

Hi MKTEF. Small world or what? Only remark i have is i do not see the a helmet on the operator? Treskalle(Woodhead) or not requried?

  153. #153MKTEF2008-02-08 13:33

Well i dont see any ROPS there either. And no hearingprotection.. But he got the right dress for the work! And his hat tells me that Haakon the 7. was king then.(the round nobb) But check out his drivers seat, real nice armrest under his arm.:usa U don't get that type of polstry and size of seats today. Buildt for two man operation Have u tried theese D7's? The sound is realy awesome, a big puffing engine, with no sharp bangs like todays engines. They are real nice for levelling grassareas, footballfields and such. A real good float on the blade when u go reverse.

  154. #154Rockbreaker2008-02-08 15:44

Have not tried a old d7. My grandfather bougt the first d6 in Norway with u blade on it. Mid 60`s or so i think. A rich forest man in Valdres helped him to buy it cash by delivery. Never seen a more proud man than him in pics whit that dozer. Used it to built roads for comunity`s ,forestry and farm work. Had an old backhoe too(Nuffield with hymas). When i was a little boy we visited them one weekend in the winter and i was so lucky to come along with my grandpa to ride on that old dozer. Plowing snow in front of the work shop he had back then. Funny how some memories from your childhood sticks better than others. And he was so proud of that machine he smiled and really loved it i can remember. Good memories that:angel

  155. #155Klutz2008-02-08 17:19

Nice with old Brøyt pics but it didn't show the cool features of the newer machines. The newer Brøyt machines was either on tracks or a simple but functional non-driven non-steerable wheel undercarrige. Steel wheels in one end and rubber in the other. When you wanted to go longer distances you just hitched a ride with a dump truck like is shown on these pics: http://www.boela-ladetechnik.de/english.html This is a virtually a copy of the Brøyt. Does anyone know the story behind this company? Is it the leftovers of Brøyt or just a copy? MKTEF? Brøyt also had a unique front shovel design similar to that of the Böla.

  156. #156bobcat ron2008-02-08 18:37

I like the boom and bucket linkage, much like a loader set up, that is one very smart and well thought out machine.

  157. #157Rockbreaker2008-02-09 05:15

Hey there Klutz.. Is this what you are missing?

  158. #158RamDodge2008-02-09 08:36

My experience are that helicopters and yellow iron don't mix very well. The chopper in the pics dropped down about 60 feet from my excavator. The pilot and two passengers where very lucky that day, one of the guys just got a cut in his head, the two others just shook up. They where flying low over the construction site videofilming for PR purposes when the wind caught them while hovering. They where actually shooting video while crashing, and I've seen the video. The last thing you see before it goes black are the roof of my truck that where parked next to the tanker. Most of the pics are just minutes after the crash, no rescue vehicles on site yet.

  159. #159MKTEF2008-02-09 10:16

Ohh. I am played out to the side now... That boela looks like a copy, i bet Sandvik still got the rights for the Brøyt. But, when a patent isn't available for the public, u can't deny any for produsing copies of it. I see the linkage is nearly a copy of the O&K systems. Not like the Brøyt. I know Brøyt where extremely good on hydraulics, many years in front of many others.(not today, but in the good old days) I didn't check the map, but the internett site and pics made me think: East Germany at once. And i know, those shovels is unbeatably when loading in tunnels. Problem is u need a wheelloader anyway to do the roof clearing.

  160. #160Rockbreaker2008-02-09 18:02

Hey RamD.... JR Had some machines on that job too i think. But what are you doing there, have you left the 220 for crushing or what? And MKTEF agree with you on Brøyt beeing a great loader for tunnels and the companies that use it often has a truck with AMV lift on for the roof jobs. I know Skanska used one for the tunnel to the Snow whit field in Hammerfest. Operator on it was driving the 992F model in the quarry on Gardermoen on my shift and he was a calm man. Used the loader 100% even when there was waiting on the trucks,he loosend material so when the trucks came he had it all line up and was ready and quick to load them.:drinkup

  161. #161RamDodge2008-02-10 00:27

You are perfectly right. I think they had the 385 there together with 2 Volvo A40 AT and a Cat D6LPG. I where there just ten days splitting rock for the crusher before they moved me out again. I worked for Sarpsborg Park & Anlegg for about 4 weeks, but got a call from my old boss asking me to come back to my old job. Well, sometimes the grass are greener but I missed my old mates. I also got trouble with my shoulders operating the L110E at Park & anlegg so when I got the chance to get in the new F I went back. I learned when you have spent 11 years operating a loader wearing your joints and then 4 more years with a comfort drive (joystick steering) there are no way going back again. I hoped that the job at Park & Anlegg had worked out better, but plans changed right after I got hired. Splitting rock was not exactly my favorite either

  162. #162Rockbreaker2008-02-10 09:38

I justed too split rocks every day for 2 and a half years and i liked it. No trucks waiting for load,no pressure to get finished digging a hole etc.. Just working in your own tempo and minding your own thing. But thats me and i understand that we are different there

  163. #163385c JR2008-02-10 16:40

It was the 365c that was on that job. The 385c has never bean down there. But I heard about the crash, you bet. oops

  164. #164Rockbreaker2008-02-11 02:16

Monday blues? Sometimes getting started on the week is hard.. Not saying all this happend on mondays but you newer know One thing for sure is that these people have had better days on work:crying

  165. #165Lashlander2008-02-11 10:30

Bad day for sure! Did that crane catch fire because of the wreck or did it crash because it was on fire?

  166. #166Rockbreaker2008-02-11 12:17

Sorry Lashlander i don`t know:beatsme I put my money on it crashed and that started a fire but that is just a guess

  167. #167MKTEF2008-02-11 12:23

Rockbreaker, now you are harrasing our fellows in south west... Those pics is from the Stavanger area! We need some crash and sink pictures from the rest of the country!

  168. #168Rockbreaker2008-02-11 12:49

Well i am not saying anything about the guys in the south west but if you put pics out there we see what you do. Only pics from around here is the helicopter crash Ramdodge shoved us. But we do mistakes here to i know and its best to not bring a cam that day

  169. #169385c JR2008-02-11 15:43

Well, then we harass our own. :exactly

  170. #170Rockbreaker2008-02-11 16:52

We need a story on this one:ban Is that the old man driving there:spaz Im lost on this so please help 385JR:crying:crying

  171. #171bobcat ron2008-02-11 18:17

Looks like it was plowing a path to the pileand started backing up, but them it started sliding around on the frost and ice below, so the operator took a detour.

  172. #172385c JR2008-02-12 15:52

You are rigth. It was the grand old man sliding when he was plowing. Earlier this winter when it was raining, I digg a hole to drain som water. When he was backing to get on the road again, he did not se the hole because off all the snow. ops

  173. #173Rockbreaker2008-02-13 01:31

Well that confirms that nobody`s perfeckt i guess Last friday my driver had time off so i had to take the loader for a day. Nice ride a Volvo 110E :drinkup Snapped a few pics of course

  174. #174Rockbreaker2008-02-15 14:14

I had a plan Should write and tell you about Hymas/Hymax who made backhoes and small excavators in Norway for many years:drinkup But the pics i have of them was on my work computer and for me its weekend now:beerchug So i give you that story later but here are some other nice pics i found

  175. #175bobcat ron2008-02-15 14:53

Those ADT trucker always think they know what they are doing, clearly the were speeding through the fog!

  176. #176385c JR2008-02-15 15:01

Do you know the story about the moxy guys Rockbreaker? :cool2

  177. #177Rockbreaker2008-02-15 15:09

Nope 385cJR But it looks to be the normal type of adt driver, thinking the ditch is a drive in wash:lmao

  178. #178385c JR2008-02-15 15:17

    :falldownlaugh

  179. #179637slayer2008-02-15 22:26

those 2 trucks stuck in that ditch looks funny, i bet the first guy thought he could make it, got stuck, the second guy thought he was a better operator took the oportunity to show the first guy up, now they are both stuck. great pics once again

  180. #180MKTEF2008-02-16 02:49

Done that with a Scania 8x4 U can se the frost in the grass, and snow? on the roof, and some snow to the left of the first adt. Tracks in the grass shows where he came from. I bet there was some ice in the turn, he just cept on strait forward. Out in the ditch, the second one tryied to stop, but strait out he too. May also be a concrete pipe under the road in the turn, makes it real nice when it freezes...

  181. #181RonG2008-02-16 06:36

I have seen those pics before and I think the story was that the guys were racing.Ron G

  182. #182pushkid842008-02-16 07:26

    cool thread!!

  183. #183Klutz2008-02-16 09:13

Bobcat Ron - Yes it looks neat. Videos would be nice but I think that would be hard to find. Rockbreaker - Yes that was what I was looking for, thanks! MKTEF - That make sense, it could just be a copy without any business connections.

  184. #184637slayer2008-02-16 11:55

yep i see it now, well its not so funny if the corner had ice on it i never thought of that.

  185. #185MKTEF2008-02-17 07:50

Here is some ADT's at a construction site. New E18 around Sandefjord. They got 3 740's, a 160M, a Volvo 160B, couple of A25D, some A35D and som A40D's. Most Volvo's. 160M is posted in another thread here. The Volvo 160B looked like hell, i didn't picture it Pics by the cell phone so quality isn't 100%.

  186. #186Rockbreaker2008-02-17 14:08

Have you been on a spy tour MKTEF Worked for that company for seven years and they had only Volvo Adt back then, but its goo to try a Cat maybe... Could tell you some stories about some of the guys driving the Adts back in the old days, but they where so nice people to work with so i won`t harass them in anyway:drinkup

The Cat 740's are impressive performers, when running, but I have seen many problems with them. I think I'll stick with Volvo Thanks for all the pictures from your part of the world

  188. #188Rockbreaker2008-02-18 01:55

Back on work for a new week and i found the pics of Hymas/Hymax. Hymas started out making backhoes or aggregates to put on tractors. Very common in Norway for many years up til the 80s or so. Also made small excavators but at last the production rate was too high so they laid down production in mid 90s. So here are some pics for you:dizzy

  189. #189Nac2008-02-18 08:14

Is that cat excavtor with the tramac drill your company's how do you like it. I am looking to maybe add a nother rock drill attachment for larger size holes in the 90 mm range.

  190. #190Nac2008-02-18 08:27

Here is the one i am talking about.

  191. #191bobcat ron2008-02-18 10:30

I really love that track set up on the 940 Hymax!

  192. #192Rockbreaker2008-02-18 11:00

Sorry thats not mine that machine... But i have an uncle who has a Cat 320bl with the same brand as in the picture and he is very pleased with it:drinkup Have used about 10 000 hours with no problem

  193. #193MKTEF2008-02-18 13:23

Well, rockbreaker. I delivered mktef sr by my mother in law for the winter vacation. On my way i spoted the 160M from behind. So on the return i made a stop. They where still working... Grabed my yellow jacket and walked in.... I am working on getting my butt in the seat of a M.... That Hymax 940 was for the last years made for working in wetlands. They specialised on wide and long tracks. Machines where loading the top of the wetlands into special vehicles. 1/3 foot thick layers.(Torv) I am waiting for some pics of the Hymas H52 4x4 backhoe.

  194. #194Rockbreaker2008-02-18 13:49

A little confused here MKTEF?? Was that sr or jr who was going on winter holiday:dizzy And i have a story about that H52 4x4 backhoe for you.. On my early days as an apprentice, only tried dozer and excavator we borroved one of those for a couple of days. Easy shift, just forward or reverse as i can remember so that was the easy part. Working on a construction site i was told to help out some guys with some concrete forms. Should just lift them over some steel and into place. Almost placed correctly i should just lift it a bit and then the hazard began:Banghead Hydralics on that machine was not what you would call smooth and easy going so as i tried to lift the concrete form it jumped up a bit,but i was lucky nobody got hurt just my pride After a few days i was happy to move back on an excavator. Must have been something wrong with the hydralics on it beacuse it was jumping like a frog

  195. #195MKTEF2008-02-18 16:09

I have two boys, quite nice ones, the oldest one is by his grandmother....(when they sleep)

  196. #196Rockbreaker2008-02-20 02:43

Found a H52 for you MKTEF. Enjoy this nice ex

  197. #197bobcat ron2008-02-20 11:12

That little hydraulic cylinder up on the stick, would that be for a parallel offset system? I see the stick cylinder has a funny pivot on it.

  198. #198Rockbreaker2008-02-20 13:46

Your eyes look good bobcatRon:notworthy And you are right on the little cylinder there Paralell system it is. They even put it on the excavator models too

  199. #199Hjolli2008-02-24 09:59

Hey you guyes from Norway Very interesting all these pics of Brøyt and Moxy. Norwegian equipment has been widely used in Iceland as well, and the old Brøyts were very popular in the 60 ties and 70 ties. Over the last years very much constrution has bee gong on in Iceland and I could try and find some pics some day.

  200. #200Rockbreaker2008-02-24 11:41

Hello Hjolli:drinkup I read somewhere about a large dam construction on Island. Do you have pics from that? Was a long dam as i recall but i have not seen many pics from it...:Banghead

  203. #203Grader4me2008-02-29 14:48

You couldn't pay me enough money to work in there. What a bank of snow! Great pictures

  204. #204d4c24a2008-02-29 15:23

trench i for one would not stand where that man is standing he must have a death wish

  205. #205ben46a2008-02-29 17:46

Youd have a death wish just being in there, machine or not.

  206. #206MKTEF2008-03-01 14:01

This avalanche closed the community from the sorrounding area. This time here, was the fourth this year. The road authorothies discussed making a tunnel through the avalanche. But it wasn't good enough height through the whole length. A tunnel was buildt trough a avalanche here in the 80's. And i have to say that this is at the end of the avalanche, snow is like ice because of the forces packing it. That ain't worse than the high sides made when opening roads in the high mountains. Many places we have to use tracked snowblowers, and work us down to the road....

  207. #207MKTEF2008-03-01 14:04

Hey Rockbreaker, i saw a nearly new D11 belonging to JR by E-6 yesterday. When did they get that one? I heard rumors about it some time ago, but is it delivered just now? And the old D10 is gone maybee?

  208. #208Northart2008-03-01 14:57

Snowsheds ? Hello MKTEF, Maybe, it is, time to consider building snowsheds, over the roadway. Before there is loss of life. The Pacific Northwest has them. Made of heavy reinforced concrete,( like a bridge ), in avalanche prone areas. The snow slides over the roadway, via the roof, being built into the hillside. One side is open for daylight. I have no pictures, maybe someone reading this may.

  209. #209MKTEF2008-03-02 04:46

Hey Northart. I agree with u. We have all types of sheds around here. Only problem is there is not so much money in the ministry... We tend to build tunnels where possible... Our minister was personaly hit by disaster some time ago, a friend of her was killed in a slide...... Some say it was right, cause she has been very slow on pushing money and projects to make travelling safe. And its allways a discussion on cost versus how many that will benefit from it. In this particular place(Veitastrondi) its 50-100 people living in the bottom of a narrow fjord. They have their own hovercraft to drive on the ice and water on the see, to get the kids to school.

  210. #210joispoi2008-03-02 04:47

a couple contractors and farmers use this setup over here. They haul silage in the summer and gravel in the winter. The cops are quite often busting them for overweight- only allowed 10 tons per axle on some of the roads around here.

  211. #211AtlasRob2008-03-02 09:16

pics Wicked thread and amazing pics thanks Rockbreaker and others. A couple of questions, in post 62 there is a C@t possibly 320 size, is that a rubber mat he is moving? and whats it for? and whats the deal with the tracks on the machine? they are not what I know as standard. Look like they have studs on. Is this for traction on the rock? In post 94 there is a Komatsu PC210? in the water, same query whats with the tracks? or is it my eyes. Thanks Rob

  212. #212Rockbreaker2008-03-02 11:57

Hey there Atlas Rob:waving The CAT machine you asked about is laying on rubber mats before they blast the rock. Rubber math help rocks flying of when they blast. Only quarries an large construction sites that don`t use them. Undercarrige on the Cat and the Komatsu have standard plates on i think. Just comes out a bit rare on the pics:beatsme

  213. #213385c JR2008-03-02 16:16

Hello MKTEF. The D11 come from Madrid to Hovinmoen one week ago. It's a 2004 model. I'll take some pics soon and post it. The old D10 has retired. And he can do it with good conscience. :notworthy

Avalance cleaning in Iceland We´ve had a lot of snow this this winter in Iceland, these links are to an Icelandic site with lots of pictures from this country, showing both trucks and heavy equipment at work in various places. A mixture of old and new pictures. Unfortunately the comments to the pics are in Icelandic, well maybe you Norwegian guys can figure something out though A couple of examples here: http://www.geirinn.is/galleri/showphoto.php?photo=23348 http://www.geirinn.is/galleri/showphoto.php?photo=18290 http://www.geirinn.is/galleri/showphoto.php?photo=16163 http://www.geirinn.is/galleri/ Hope these links work for you

    D6R U dozer 1st time I seen a U dozer on a Cat D6R.

  220. #220Rockbreaker2008-03-09 18:05

Finally 385c JR:salute Looks great also , but what happend to the repair man? To long shover or is he just groving down:beatsme 90% of Cat D6 sold in Norway has the u blade i think Northart. Just a great blade when pushing over a distance or laying out materials. And you know we are a bit rare over here by now maybe:crazy

  221. #221Construct'O2008-03-09 20:59

So is the D6R and LGP machine it has the short lift cylinder like they do?Here the LGP blade has a straight blade and the blade isn't as tall, but wider because of the usual 36" pads. On a XL machine you have the semi blade and long lift cylinders.Never quite figured why the straight blade and short cylinder on the LGP machine:beatsme Is the u blade a Cat blade or and aftermarket blade from someone over there?:usa

  222. #222Rockbreaker2008-03-10 04:05

Hello MR:usa The D6R is a lgp model and the blade is original CAT blade. The XL model is rare around her only seen a D7XL once. Most common is lgp models with u or semi u blades on:cool2

  223. #223Eric2008-03-10 11:05

At our main battle tank overhaul shop we got two Michigans. They are used to pull the tanks in and out of the workshop. They'r called "Dyret" and "Dyret II". (The animal I and II) The first one is now to small to pull the Leopard 2 tanks.(110 000 pounds) So they bought a new one, here is the pictures.(I have promissed to get some of it in a previouce post) Notice the blue lights on top of the small one. And its got a Scania engine..

  227. #227MKTEF2008-03-12 16:46

Some modifications done here..... And its legal with todays regulations.

  228. #228MKTEF2008-03-12 16:49

Last one. Amazing what new paint will do...

  229. #229Hjolli2008-03-12 18:09

U-blades Hello Rockbreaker Funny to hear that most D6´s in Norway have U-blades. We thought we were a bit special in Iceland about this, as most dozers, D7 and above, have U-blades in our country. A very nice blade for most dozer tasks. But I was wondering why the big D11 has a semi-u. Are my picture links still not working? Very nice pictures of the old Michigans MKTEF HJolli

  230. #230Rockbreaker2008-03-13 02:23

Hello Iceland Think they have plans for a trade on the d11 blade so they get a u blade on it. Nice looking Michigans MKTEF:drinkup

  231. #231MKTEF2008-03-16 14:29

Thanks guy's I was on a smal trip doing a job for my wife today. Spent an hour taking some shots of machines on the way back... Got most of Heahre's machines.... D8T nr 796 and the 345 and its bucket.

  232. #232MKTEF2008-03-16 14:33

More of the same 345 and some ADT's. And a PC 340 and his two buckets.(under contractor) He is aparently afraid of thieves....

  233. #233MKTEF2008-03-16 14:40

Some details. The tooth welded on the back is for splitting rock when loading. Curl it back and drop it on the rocks. Some wear strips welded on. The spade can be demounted and single teeth added if nessesary. I bet he is doing rock drill preparing, scraping dirt of the mountain. Last bucket is for a Hitachi 870 or 670.(was parked further away.)

  234. #234MKTEF2008-03-16 14:45

From the barracks. Two 980's, a G and a H. One 966 and a 936. D9 radiocontrolled rigg. I mean they got 3 or 4 of them on this site. The bucket is 6 feet high..... And a D6R XW.(Undercontractor)

  235. #235MKTEF2008-03-16 14:53

Their trucks. The axles can be pulled out and in to get maximum payload. Pull them in when outside public roads and when tipping. The 10 feeter on the roof has antennas for the GPS systems in the machines. Sends out the correction signal. (The camera dosen't like the sun, so some pics is dark here )

  236. #236MKTEF2008-03-16 14:57

More ADT's. The sleeping barracks.(Blue ones)(And a auctioned old Jeep from us) One of the 870's Some more ADT's.

  237. #237MKTEF2008-03-16 15:01

Here is the big one. I mean Espen Holte has put some pics of it here before. And a Hitachi 670.

  238. #238MKTEF2008-03-16 15:08

I know u love pics... This is the last one for now. Haehre got the main contract for this part of the road. They got some undercontractors working here too. I have not taken pics of everything. Still some MT41's, 318M, 325, 330, 345, 365, 870, D8, Roc D9's, Tamrock rigg, and some wheelloaders not pictured here. They where to far away for my phototrip today.

  239. #239bobcat ron2008-03-16 15:51

I like the bucket with the detachable teeth and flat edge, that is something that is becoming more and more popular here.

  240. #240tylermckee2008-03-16 17:37

Whats the reason for building all those excavator buckets that way? don't see that in the US

  241. #241Northart2008-03-16 18:14

Bunkhouses Hello MKTEF, Those gray ones, stacked up, are they bunkhouses ?? . Are they standard 20' with a walkway down the center ? Looks like a neat configuration. On taking pictures into the sun, I try and shade the camera lens with my hand, and yet keep my hand out of the picture.

  242. #242637slayer2008-03-16 22:19

great pics again, you kept us waiting long enough. looks like a rock job.

  243. #243Rockbreaker2008-03-17 02:13

Main reason i think is beacuse it is mostly used in rock and that makes them strong and long lasting for that. Buckets produced in Norway is heavier than buckets from the producers beacuse we have a tradion on rock bucket with more steel than for a normal bucket. And that makes them last longer and take more abuse too maybe

  244. #244MKTEF2008-03-17 03:54

Hey Northart. The Grey ones are office bunks. They are made 9 feet wide(2,99m) and 18feet long apr. The width comes out of max size on the road without an escort.(only yellow beacons) There is a big factory produsing theese with different configurations. They can be without walls on one ore two sides, corridor in one end and a small office in the rest, only imagination desides the design. They are all of the same size.(office and sleeping/bathroom) so they can be builty together. And a standarized electric sockets on the outside. They are like Lego's, u build the number and type after what u need. Regarding the buckets, they are designed this way because of the terrain and use in Norway. Much rockloading and still good capasity in other aplications.

  245. #245MKTEF2008-03-17 15:51

And thanks for the phototip Northart. I'll try that next time i'm doing photos for you guy's!

  246. #246Rockbreaker2008-03-18 07:01

Here are a small one, retired from serving the Norwegian Army.:salute Did you hear that MKTEF???????

  247. #247MKTEF2008-03-18 08:03

He, He. I've posted pics of the AMV in another post here. If i remember right it was by Lashlanders project up North. And i have had my ass in both that one and the Liebherr for a long time. We agreed at work about that the AMV was best suited as a ancor deep in Tyrifjorden. We sold our Liebherrs last year. Our 742 and the 3 smal ones was sold at Lillehammer. The 742 owner showed up here and got the radiocontroll and some service manuals. (-94 modell, apr 3000hours) But if u got the AMV with all the equipment, it was a bargain, the hammers, drills and all stuff was worth the price for the whole machine. I mean they was sold for 150'.-. Try buying 4 hammers, drills, grinder, hoses and stuff in a shop! After the modifications they worked well, suited for a farmer doing some small drilling and blasting. I prefer our Roc D7 and the D65/85 today. I sometimes have to open the door to check if its realy drilling.....

  248. #248Rockbreaker2008-03-25 03:30

Have told you guys the story of Hymas before but i was looking for some pics of the first model excavators they made And of course if you search long enough you will find Notice the cylinder on the boom for swing attacment on the boom. This is made in the 80`s not many producers selling machine here in Norway had this on there machines back then:exactly

  249. #249Rockbreaker2008-03-25 03:33

And a newer model from the same producer

  250. #250Sparffo2008-03-25 04:49

Nice pictures from my neighbours! Keep em comming!

  251. #251JDOFMEMI2008-03-25 12:04

Thanks for taking time to post these for us. I always look forward to what you guys will find next. A little different view than I'm used to seing here in the states.

  252. #252Rockbreaker2008-03-26 07:47

Here are two machines with a rototilt and a grab on And some pics of pipelines for water going in to water turbines to produce power (Electricity) Enjoy the great nature

  253. #253Sparffo2008-03-26 10:39

We have a Arden 2000 demolition grapple on our big Hyndai, but i don't think the Encon or indexator rototillt would stand the power of the 30 ton excavator when ripping a part buildings Last time i was in Norway was probabbly 2003, I where there to ride the Nordic Championship in Enduro motorcycling It was a really nice track, with height differences of 1200meters man it was completly impossible to make the jetting work on my 125 Husqvarna racing bike. but i ended up 5 overall anyway, and got plenty of good memorys from Norway:drinkup

  254. #254AtlasRob2008-03-26 11:03

cutting edges. Do you mean with the cutting edge across the teeth? I have 2 buckets set like that ( 18" & 42" ) as I seem to spend a lot of time locating services, cables, pipes etc. Scraping off a few mm at a time leaves the ground smooth and easier to see an old excavation line. Once the 1 RB driver ( labourer )has dug a short trench I can scrape away again and still see the disturbed ground he has dug with the spade. Its also handy for cleaning up off a hard surface and for levelling in front of a wacker plate for kerb lines etc where a ditching bucket is too big. :drinkup Rockbreaker, thanks for the great pics, that has to be the ultimate in concrete delivery :notworthy

  255. #255Rockbreaker2008-03-26 13:39

Hello sparffo:waving Those grab is used to built stone walls, pipes and light demolition work. Not to use on concrete or steel buildings for sure. Where in Norway was this enduro event, and was ur star enduro driver Ullevålseter present? Sound like you got a nice set up of buckets for the German wheel ride ABOB And for the concrete deliverry i can only imagine the word cheap never was a part of the contract there:ban

  256. #256MKTEF2008-03-26 14:49

I can add some info to the heli delivery. I spent some months working on power line basements. Travelling from mast-point to mast point with all stuff needed. Everything was heli lifted, without the exc.(i drove a Old Kobelco 903) At that operation they involved a number of basement teams, mast teams and cable teams and 2 heli's, one Bell 214 and a Alouette. The 214 did all the heavy lifting and the alouette the smaler jobs. And we got to fly to work every morning and evening Barrack, compressor, dynamite, wood, rebaring and tools where lifted with the 214. The pilot on the alouette had a bulb on the cockpit window that he put his head in to be able to look directly down on the ground. Concrete was delivered at the nearest road and flown out to the site. And man theese pilots can fly!:notworthy He held the concrete tob directly over, and at constantly hight when pouring The concrete goes out and the load gets lighter, meaning u got to adjust lift! Only rules was to open and keep it at the same gap, leave it open afterwards, and no jamming with the handle. He then flew down in the nearest river washing it, before returning to the concrete truck exchanging tob. He had been forced to dropp one tob in one year, because of to much swing.(destroys the cable) Just a long walk for one guy... And i bet u can fine some pics of the needle, Rockbreaker! Show the guys here how our pilots thread the powercable with a helicopter :notworthy

  257. #257Sparffo2008-03-27 01:40

yes he was! i if i remember right he won the overall! he is a good driver! at the moment i don't remember the name of the town where it was i have check from the results! it was in the middle of Norway i would say, really nice and small town

  258. #258AtlasRob2008-03-27 15:44

pilots Another world altogether MKTEF :drinkup Thats the ultimate journey to work :cool2 I remember washing digger buckets in flowing rivers in days gone by. Not now, concrete and water courses do not mix :ban a very big NO in UK now.

  259. #259MKTEF2008-03-29 08:28

How to get traction on snow and ice. How do theese operate in the wintertime? Rubber pads all over, and rubbertracks on the other... Snow shoes and chains of course! Check theese out...

  260. #260MKTEF2008-03-29 08:33

A detail up front. Sprocket and rubber scrapers removing snow and ice. All our M113's will be using this type of tracks very soon. Some will get a wider one, but nearly identical. Very nice, works real well, this technology has been getting real good. Development goes into bigger/stronger tracks. In some years you will see them on the CV90 to.(The one over here)

  261. #261Sparffo2008-03-29 11:40

My russian DT 75 dozer has excatly the same chains as the tank with the steel chains! man it's a pain in the ass to try to make a nice finnish, because the UC is suspended :beatsme

  262. #262AtlasRob2008-03-29 19:18

problems Funny the things in other parts of the world that dont even cross my mind until somebody else mentions them. Like watching Ice Road Truckers, and the other half ( wife) says how come they can drive all that way with all that weight on ice without any problems :beatsme :cool2

  263. #263tylermckee2008-03-29 21:28

Im talking about how the sides seem so small and the cutting edges stick out so far. seems like if the sides were taller you could hold more material?

  264. #264Rockbreaker2008-03-30 04:31

Hi There. Reason for the cutting edge to stick out so much is beacuse when used for rock handling, the rocks is easier to pick up. And the bucket go easier into the material when digging rock material. Hope you got the idea:beatsme

  265. #265MKTEF2008-03-30 06:47

Your completely right rockbreaker. Try handling a rock bigger than your bucket with your us style bucket. Its impossible... And if u manage to get it on top of the bucket, you don't controll it.. I have tryed your design with a hitachi 210 in Iraq, they'r only good for handling sand. And this is also one of the resons you dont see any thumbs on exc here in Norway. Our buckets goes under anything, and stuff lays real good on the edge. We handle roots, trees and rocks like no problem with this design. U will also se that many exc here has wear strips welded to the stick. Often 3 irons going along the stick on the inside.(3 feet long apr) Thats for clamping things onto with the bucket. And a story: On a road project we where devided in two groups, one with the contractors, the other with the states road departement.(SVV before they got privaticed) On the SVV group they had a PC 400, and some real old ADT's. A D8 was ripping and helping them. The D8 operator was a joker, so he pushed a real big boulder over to the exc a number of days in a row. One of the exc operators just moved it away, so the d8 guy waited for the other shift. A couple of tries and the other exc operator manned up and got to work. He got it in the bucket, so big he had to clamp it between the stick and the boom. Rised slowly up and a Old Moxy D16 ADT backed under.(man those are old and bad) He dumped it in the box, The box just cracked open... The boulder had to be tipped not so far from the exc. Welder repaired the box on the ADT. Man this D16 needs to die; so the d8 operator moved the boulder over to the exc.(only way to get a new machine) This time the box hold, welder had done a good job. But the frame broke in two, halfway to the tipp. So they finaly got the D16 scrapped.

buckets Thanks Rockbreaker, that makes perfect sense. :notworthy And thanks tylermckee for asking in the first place, even if I did pick up on wrong point :Banghead I had spotted the long toe on other buckets from that part of the world but didnt have the gumption to ask WHY? lol

  267. #267tylermckee2008-03-30 19:57

I work in hard rock 95% of the time and i dont seem to have any problem picking up any boulder that the machine can lift, with or without a thumb. :beatsme we also have wear strips on our buckets and stick. I would like to see how one of those buckets works, but i've never seen one in use around here.

  268. #268Rockbreaker2008-03-31 01:38

You have to come to Norway and see the bucket in use Tyler MKTEF great story:jerry Have one for you also.. Back in 99 i worked on the new E-18 in Holmestrand on a Volvo EC450. Loading ADTs with rock material, two machines in the same pile. The ADT driver i was loading had lined up coffe and waffels when the first big one hit the box and it all went in the air. The other ADT driver standing beside him got and ugly look from the driver who had to pick up the waffel and coffe cup After that i always told the ADT driver when there was some big ones coming

  269. #269JDOFMEMI2008-03-31 02:43

With our tall sided buckets you just have to be more creative to pick up the big ones. I have had to dig a hole, the roll the big one over it, so I could get the sides of the bucket flat under it so it won't slide off. Then pick it up and back the ADT into the hole, and lay rock across the bed sides. Those are fun to dump, usually making the front wheels come up! Spent months loading like this with a 700 Hitachi. I bet one of your buckets would have helped there, but we also like to fill the trucks in 3 to 4 passes when in good digging, which is anything 4' minus.

  270. #270AtlasRob2008-03-31 14:51

Naw, save the biggest for when they have the coffee and waffle, like truck drivers reading newspapers, I dont get to drink coffee, eat waffles or read a paper unless its break time. :stirthepot

  271. #271Sparffo2008-03-31 14:51

Hi! I don't think the "nordic style" buckets have any smaller volume than "US style" buckets, they just have a longer lip in the front, or the bucket is longer on the back! some very good quality Finnish buckets: http://www.steelpa.fi/kauhat_kuo.html http://www.niskakankaanterastuote.fi/ we use these: http://www.eurosteel.fi/eurosteel\cms.nsf/pages/F3CBD9485C996899C2256FDC003E0058?opendocument

  272. #272JDOFMEMI2008-03-31 15:09

Here are some pics of the size bucket I like to run. I agree that it won't get the large rock like your long lip buckets, but it will outload them in a production situation. I say get the right tool for the job you have. You guys seem to have it.

  273. #273Per Eriksson2008-03-31 16:13

I'd say the diffenrent buckets holds just about the same amount of material. We spec thew bucket sizes to match the capacity of the machine just as you guys do, right?

  274. #274MKTEF2008-03-31 16:43

Hey 385C JR can u please post some pics of your bucket, with size please? U got a "Norwegian" style one on yours? And i bet u don't need so many pases to load a A40.. Then we got something familiar to compare with.

  275. #275Rockbreaker2008-04-01 01:59

What a great looking 375 Jdofmemi:drinkup Totally agree with you on using the bucket that is needed for the job you do at all times. And for that loading in the pics we also use buckets like that (not all but there are some who does) And using a bucket that are produced to perform with what type of work you do,not only saves the machine from abuse but also makes the work go a lot easier As for my friend 385 JR he has just moved in his new house and is waiting for installing to get online again MKTEF:cool2 And at last some pics of Norwegian rock buckets and why they are made that way:thumbsup Oops slipped in a blondie on the second pic there:beatsme:beatsme Last one is for you Jdofmemi

Bucket sales ? OoHoo, such a beguiling sales pitch ! LOL I want one ! The woman not the bucket . LOL

  277. #277JDOFMEMI2008-04-01 14:19

Rockbreaker Nice pics. I like the little rocks in the first shot. Reminds me of a job here a few years back. Too bad I lost the pics of it. Heres my bucket for my mini ex:falldownlaugh

  278. #278AtlasRob2008-04-01 16:35

big! buckets :falldownlaugh very good, I make that 1 all though I must admit I looked twice at the Volvo :Banghead I thought it was for snow clearing :cool2

  279. #279Frazzy2008-04-01 19:15

Some pictures form the Quarry that I work at.. Machines: Cat 980 G II Cat 775 E Cat 385C L Cat 375 L Cat 140-G Komatsu WA500-6 Komatsu HD605-7 Volvo 180-E + We have some other ones..

  280. #280Dozerboy2008-04-01 19:30

I'm seeing more and more "Norwegian" style buckets around here, but most don't have quite that much lip. The ones I've used where all built to the capacity of the machine and they seem to load better with those long lips. I like them better and agree they make it easier to pick up over sized rocks and such.

  281. #281Rockbreaker2008-04-02 01:11

Hello Frazzy:salute Great pics there and i can see that 775 is an old JR machine What model is the 385? Looks to be brand new:drinkup Found these pics are they from your quarry????

  282. #282Frazzy2008-04-02 01:29

The CAT 775 on the second last picture is not from my quarry, it was one they rented in at Tau, but the 980 there was at out quarry, but they rented that also, when it was shipped from us.. The pictures you posted Rockbreaker, looks like they are also from Tau! Or maybe im wrong.. Our 385 is a 2007 modell, brand new.. Looks like there is some bulk's on the picture, but its not It replaced our old 375 from 1999.. We hade a 375, 775 and a 980 from 1999, but the 980 is out of date now And the 775 that we had was also shipped to Tau, since they was going to use it until they got there third 777 (also they are going to have a new 992 iv heard, thats replacing the old 990) guess thats what you have a picture of.. One from Tau (summer 2007) (Thats the rented 775, not the one from us):

  283. #283bigblueox2008-04-02 11:31

The counterweight on the 385 looks clean! you could almost eat off it. wonder how long it'll stay like that, my boss thinks that it's the most efficient way to knock down trees......... with the counter weight that is.

  284. #284MKTEF2008-04-02 13:31

The counterweight on the 375 looks good, to be 9 years old... If u don't know where your machine is, u might be a threat to your self and others... Frazzy, i see u got both 980, WA500 and L180... What do you and your companions prefer to operate?

  285. #285Frazzy2008-04-02 16:57

I loved the 980, after 15.500 hours we changed the Cat 980 into a Komatsu WA-500, and the Caterpillar had more power after all those hours (going hard), than the Komatsu had when it was new.. After 1 year, we still have problems with the high lift and quick coupling (to change bucket). We can't get the bucket all back before we have it 2 meters + in the height, and it’s to little weight on its back. 8 tonns + on the bucket and its starts going on 2 wheels. So I can't call the komatsu a wheel loader. The only good thing in the Komatsu was the air-condition, but the buttons have started to jam up, and sometimes it just goes off by itself. Had some hydraulic leaks, diesel leaks ECT also, and it’s like the machine is already starting to get a little outworn just after 2800 hours. We had the same buckets for the 980G II and the WA-500.. 5.5m^3 for the heavyduty (rock) bucket, and 6.5m^3 for the normal material bucket.. Guess you get about 9-10 tonns max in the rockbucket if the mass is nice, and with 0-2, 0-11, 0-16, 0-32 ect, you can get about 10-20 tonns in the bucket, but more than 15 tonns is just stupid.. but we have to drive very steady with the komatsu when we have over 10 tonns, but the 980 could handle 15 tonns+ just fine.. The Volvo 180 is nice for loading cars and for use in fine aggregates, but it’s really not a power machine. I visit Norsk Stein and Tau this summer with a friend, and we tried a 988H, and looked at Cat 777, 990, 992. Those are some machines with power Also tried a new version of a 980, but I didn’t like the new way of the half-moon steering (or what you call it in English), but the one we had on ours was very nice, it’s the best way to drive a wheel loader after my view (even a joystick can’t match up).. I like the old one, but on the last picture you can see the new steering, and I didn't like driving with that.

  286. #286385c JR2008-04-04 18:00

Bucket Hello guys! :cool2 My installer finally drag he's ass over to my place. :guns I post som pics of my "loos material bucket". It's starts to be a little worn, so i hope our welder come soon. On the A40's I use 3 pases and 5 on the 775's. It's a old 375 bucket we have rebuild so the size I dont know. But I guess about 6m3, maby more... :beatsme I'll post som pics later of my rock bucket.

  287. #287Frazzy2008-04-04 18:02

Nice, we have a 5.2m^3 big rockbucket on our 385CL now and uses around 8-9 passes to load a 775, but the bucket is to small, and we want a bigger one Think there have been talk about a 5.6m^3

  288. #288385c JR2008-04-04 18:15

Yes, a 5.6m3 bucket is what we have. But I think the machine can handle a bigger on. Maby a 6m3. Depends on the weigth of the material. Over here it will be no problem I think.

  289. #289Frazzy2008-04-04 18:36

I also think that, because on the old 375 L we had a 5.6m3 bucket and it worked nice, so I think the 385CL could manage a 6m3 or maybe a 6.5m3 fine.. depending on the backweight (lodd)

  290. #290637slayer2008-04-04 23:44

thats one cool lookin :cool2:cool2 hoe.

Even more about trailers with driven axles (post #59) You are so right CB! They do exist. Or rather they did a long time ago but many of them are still alive today. Are these the ones you had in mind? VOLVO 350 BOXER LIVAB DD 10 made from 1963-1966 http://biphome.spray.se/settersjo/MODELLER.HTM http://user.tninet.se/~irs543h/volvobm/DD.html VOLVO 470 BISON LIVAB DKD 15 http://user.tninet.se/~irs543h/volvobm/DKD.html Like Tegian said, these are the first Volvo ADTs. I don't know a lot about these myself but anyone from the scandinavian crowd here can probably tell you more. Sorry about the late reply, this thread is starting to get messy.

  292. #292MKTEF2008-04-05 10:56

385's Hey 385c JR. Has there been two 385's on the site all the time, or has JR got one more? Notised there was two down there today. One down by the bridge and yours up in the sand.

  293. #293385c JR2008-04-05 15:00

Hello MKTEF... No, we only have one 385. The other machine is a 365c. Thats the machine I had before the 385.

Better put that bugger into an ADT first!

  298. #298YoungOne2008-04-06 13:22

Gotta start somewhere right? If an ADT wasnt available. The way i learned was riding in the cab with the driver for around an hour, and then making a few runs with him in the cab sitting with me. To get familiar with the machine. And then i was off on my own. -Michael-

  299. #299MKTEF2008-04-06 16:05

Well, he hit one of the few wet holes on that job... I saw that one sitting on the side up by your 385 yesterday... Jobs available by JR?

  300. #300Countryboy2008-04-07 00:31

Yes, those are like I was talking about. Although, I think I was still mistaken because I thought they were still in production today. Thanks all the same though. :drinkup

  301. #301bear2008-04-07 06:37

That seems so much smaerter than what we used to do. :Banghead :Banghead :Banghead take a dozer cut a trail to the next set of poles go back get the material drag it to the site, go back again hook onto the digger truck, go back get the bucket truck. Idiots never would buy us what we called a bombardier, a combined auger/digger boom with a bucket on it on a tracked chassis. could have done about everything at one go and got done quicker.

  302. #302385c JR2008-04-07 16:10

We might always need a good driver, so call JR. :cool2 Stop for a testdrive some day. You are welcome.

But i pass there sometimes, and i'll come over and have a chat. Canaris II is a bit bigger than our PC210-7.... (It is Canaris, right?) 316. #316637slayer2008-04-10 20:31

MKTEF, is that you in the military pics? what does MKTEF stand for? that was a good gallery of pics thanx.:salute:salute

  317. #317MKTEF2008-04-12 07:31

Well, i normaly keep my smiling face behind the camera. I haven't seen myself in any of the pics.. MKTEF is a short for Machinery & Konstruction sqd Theatre Enabling Force. We are a rather big squadron with heavy equipment and craftsmen preparing the military sites before the soldiers move in.(we are real heavy!) We also deploy as a standard heavy construction unit supplying a Brigade/Division with engineer tasks. Lats planned task was to be one of the units in a Engineer batalion going to Darfur, Sudan. That was canselled last minute, we where ready to go, but the president denied western units into Darfur. Today the Ministry of foreign affairs wants us to go to Chad and to Haiti. Ministery of Defense don't wan't any, max one. So there is a political fight in the government, and hauling out time is one way to go.... Haiti is a support task to build/repair roads for the military units there.(Main supply routes) Building camps, means doing everything from the big sandy area so everybody can come and live there. Last big task was in North Afghanistan where it was a big sandy area when we arrived. When we left everything was there, water, suwage, power, kitchen, offices, garage, protection walls, guard towers, asphalt, video conferense system, internett, secure data nets, gravel on the rest, living quarters, u name it, it was there. Soldiers arrived with plane, unloaded on asphalt and walked on asphalt into their living quarters.(constructed for 400 soldiers) Last task now, is ongoing in Afghanistan, where we build the extension on a camp to resieve helicopters in a smal unit. PRT in Maymaneh.(Provinsional reconstruction team) Hangars, landing pads, all needed for those birds. Search for mktef on youtube, i've posted some videos from our job in Afghanistan. PS: All this is official info that u can read about in Norwegian papers/on the net.

  318. #318bobcat ron2008-04-12 14:32

There really should be a thread about how we all got our screen names and what they stand for. I just hate Bobcats, so don't start asking me about my name.

  319. #319637slayer2008-04-12 14:57

thanx MKTEF after reading alot of your posts i figured it was military, really interesting and probably sometimes dangerous work. 637slayer was my undefeated champion heavyweight boxer on fightnight boxing for playstation 2, no good story behind mine.

  320. #320MKTEF2008-04-12 15:19

Serving in the Army make us travel to some areas around the world. Not the most popular tourist places though.... And as a Engineer we are always needed around. Here is some pics from missions my unit has solved: http://www.mktef.info/undersider/kompaniet-oppdrag.html Click on the orange places and scroll down. And yes, some of the places i've been to is not safe... Bosnia during the war was bad because of all the granades landing in camp. Iraq because of never knowing when something would happen. But u have to focus on all the positive things, i wouldent been without the trips.. I adopted the name to promote the unit, and made the website of same reason. Army is not good on promotion, and a bit fanatic about not publishing info on what we do. And the offisial defence website is so big u don't find the info u want.

  321. #321Rockbreaker2008-04-14 05:40

Big one Time to post some pics of the largest hydraulic excavator in Norway Found in a quarry called Titania in the south west of Norway Not real sure of what they use the minerals there for but:beatsme Exc is a O&K RH 170 (Terex)

  322. #322bobcat ron2008-04-14 09:24

    Someone already got it smashed!!

  323. #323637slayer2008-04-14 11:40

    already has its first blemish.

  324. #324AtlasRob2008-04-14 13:17

:crying:crying Paints still on the bucket!! Had to be a truck he slewed against at that height surely. Thats the trouble with venitian blinds though. Very unforgiving. Now if it had curtains nobody would have noticed except for the little scratch I realise the photos are from a different time, but its not funny then is it. :drinkup

  325. #325637slayer2008-04-14 14:42

i think i can see how it digs, but how does it dump? it must have to dump the b ucket i guess, doesnt look like the bottom of the bucket releases like a cat. thats why its an ex. i guess, looks funny for some reason. but its still massive.

  326. #326MKTEF2008-04-15 15:53

Bucket opens along the arch on the side. Sylinder and all is hidden inside the bucket. Check pics down in the brochure: http://www.terex-ok.com/fileadmin/u...Prospekte/Englisch/RH170_Brochure_english.pdf

  327. #327MKTEF2008-04-15 16:19

We have a small exersice area up in our neighbourhood. (RØ) Here is some pics from a project up in the north end of it. They are constructing a flat area, that will be equiped so u can trase impacts that lands or explodes on that test site. Artillery granades, bombs, explosives, mines etc, a special test area. John Galten got the main contract, Gunnar Holt does the crushing. Holth loading here, the 972 punctured his right front wheel while we where watching. He started loosing money as we watched... Metso main crusher, loading with a Cat 330. The EC460, EC150?, A25/35, D85 and PC 340? is Galtens machines. They are filling the shot as a base on the area.

  328. #328MKTEF2008-04-15 16:26

Same area And their storage of main crushed stone. The fine/course material is stored further back. And their cone crusher, a Sandvik on a trailer. L180E feeding and carrying away on that one. And we'll se what happends tomorrow Just guess on what those sticks in the snow are.....

  329. #329bear2008-04-15 20:51

Amv? Never seen one of those before put a three point on the back or something like it and a pto and that would be sweet on the farm. I'd prolly try and rig a regular set of tracks for it someway though. might be kind of straightforward job.

  330. #330Rockbreaker2008-04-16 12:28

Blasting MKTEF? GHolt does the crushing for us also and i think they are a great firm to work with. Nice, hard working guys:beerchug

  331. #331MKTEF2008-04-16 14:17

GHolt's lifted 330D. Here is some pics of their "raised" Cat 330D. Looks to have eaten some steroids for the undercarrige.. The "pin" in the bucket is for use in the crusher. Just take of the bucket and give some of the rocks a smal push down the hole.. And they are payed by the weight of the finnished product, so keeping the production on top is everything. Some guy's here said they are crushing 200 000 tonns for us...

  332. #332MKTEF2008-04-16 14:26

Blasting rock.. Blasting rock for the crusher. E.Rolstad AS responsible for the blasting Calculated 18 000-20 000 cubikk meter m3. Apr 10 000kg/20 000 pounds of explosives, 0,5kg/m3, 1 pund/m3. Orica filling the holes for them. Remote controlled filling hose. Snowing from the morning, got bether around lunch. Last is taken from my viewpoint when blasting.

  333. #333MKTEF2008-04-16 14:39

Our smal blast We did some drilling on the backside of Rolstad's blast. We did the blast at the same time as they did. Just connected our cord to their's. Project was to test our new transport and storage container++ Very bad rock, they had been blasting without loading away the previous blasts. A lot of backbreaking into our area. Cracks all over, had to drill some extra holes. We drilled 3 rods stuck that didn't come up.(monday) I did the rescue yesterday, turn em around for 30 min's and they come up slowly... (and ad some diesel in the rods) Military explosives, Texit 40 slurry, mixed at site. Got both a lot of punch and gasses, we use it for all types of blasting. Mix a red liquid with aluminium powder and u get a grey slurry. 5.1 oxydising stuff and something unharmfull. Its not explosives before they are mixed. Alu powder dryes out your skin/eyes/lungs, so thats the reason for the white suites, glasses, masks and glowes..

  334. #334Rockbreaker2008-04-16 15:22

The 330 is a HW model army boy Surprised that Rolstad isn`t crushing, beacuse they have the equipment i think.. Could be the old money thing of course:Banghead

  335. #335MKTEF2008-04-16 15:32

I know that... They made a big number of it in A&T a couple of numbers back.. I bet there is some money in here, the driller wasn't so happy about the previous blasters. I didn't ask him, but read between the lines that the drilling and/or blasting contractor has been changed. It ain't so smart to just drill and blast continuosly without loading away... Energy is supposed to throw the rock out somewhere. Their blasting destroyed the back of the rockface totaly...

  336. #336MKTEF2008-04-16 15:58

Video of the blast. A smal video of the blasting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRicTVRn6QM Enjoy!

  337. #337Ray Welsh2008-04-16 18:42

    Big blast area. Now THAT'S a nice result.........C ya.......Ray

  338. #338MKTEF2008-04-17 10:38

Well, it is a huge area Ray. It's 600x800m/1800X2400 feet of gravel area, plus 250m/750F of safetysone around it all. It is partly a swamp, so they load it up and drive away. Fill with shot rock, 3-6 feet thick. Add the crushed rock on top in two layers and qualitys. And the area has to have a safety sone around the crushed quality. I'll take some pics when snow is gone....in a month or two...

  339. #339Rockbreaker2008-04-18 00:23

Snow?? That was a mont or so since we have seen that

  340. #340vikingpower2008-04-19 08:34

pics ? why am i not allowed to post any pictures ???:beatsme

  341. #341MKTEF2008-04-19 10:15

Welcome to the forum Vikingpower! Post a couple of post more and u can post pics. Thats a security to stop spam. Countryboy got the resepie for pics in his signature... And if u open for it, we can PM u if we want to send u a private message...

  342. #342Rockbreaker2008-04-19 12:42

Welcome Vikingpower:drinkup Great to see another Norwegian connecting to this great forum

  343. #343vikingpower2008-04-19 12:43

Ok Thanks for you information i think i know the way too put some pictures there www.akh.no

  344. #344MKTEF2008-04-19 14:00

AKH is already here... I've posted pics of most of the machines on E-6. Espen Holte is also present, but he haven't posted for some time.

  345. #345vikingpower2008-04-20 02:07

yes i have noticed your pictures they are nice my machine is the ZX 670 named ("LILLEGUTT") little boy

  346. #346Rockbreaker2008-04-20 04:12

Now you have 3 post so you can get the pics coming Vikingpower Have seen a CAT boom with crack on it,do you have pics of that and the story why:beatsme

  347. #347vikingpower2008-04-20 04:36

the excavator with the cracked bom is the Komatsu 750 i will try too get some pictures of it when i arrive on site monday here are some pictures

  348. #348vikingpower2008-04-20 04:46

the last pics is one of ours long reach excavators the picture with the D8 and zx 670 is taken i Krageroe last summer when i just got the machine this pics is one of our dozer drivers got stuck his nick name is "radio Elverum"

  349. #349MKTEF2008-04-20 05:09

Just a tip; u can post 5 pics each time, just upload the three, and u then can upload another two. Is the D6 driver Tomas? There was a big article about u guy's in Østlendingen now on saturday. And he's from Elverum... Lars H had a apointment to come up to us and inform about the firm before christmas. Target was our machine operators planned for the trip to Sudan. That was not so popular, one firm getting the oportunity to recruit in our camp..

  350. #350vikingpower2008-04-20 05:40

yes the D6 driver is Tomas here are the pics of the komatsu 750 cracked bom why it cracked i cant tell but its komatsu and that says a lot and some pics of my first job with the ZX 670 in Krageroe

  351. #351Rockbreaker2008-04-23 02:24

Been busy with demolition one a old housing unit for some days Machine is rented from a friend Cat 307 with rototilt and a forest crab is working like a dream:exactly Can pic the units down in pices and sort out wood and metal from the rest.

  352. #352MKTEF2008-04-23 14:21

Thats just barely used Moelven barracks! What a shame, i bet som motorcycle club would have bought them just imediately! One of my previously workplases use just those types of barracks as office, today...

  353. #353385c JR2008-04-23 15:55

Mr Rockbreaker, you have to be done soon whith that 307. I'm gona rent it when you, some day, are finish. :cool2 Have to level around the house you know.

  354. #354Rockbreaker2008-04-23 16:48

Some of them had water leaking in so they buil a roof on them some years back. Been on some dam building before arrival here in the late 80s. Built in 74 so they aint new Are you ready for ground leveling on the mansion FW:dizzy Well that one i got to see:ban

  355. #355Sparffo2008-04-24 13:18

Hi RB! tell your friend to buy a Demolition grapple, it really kicks ass, compared to that forrest grapple what could be better than beeing payed for destroying things

  356. #356Rockbreaker2008-04-24 13:40

I know what you mean sparffo:yup:yup Always the question on the money thing:Banghead:Banghead

  357. #357Sparffo2008-04-24 13:46

that money thing really sucks... i would also have soooo many machines if it wasn't for the money

  358. #358MKTEF2008-04-24 14:27

Carefull now RB, i've got all the tools any operator wants! Levelling is no problem, i just bring our big laser and the D85 and you'll see there is no problem with levelling. Or if u got a "fastpunkt" i'll take the rover and we could do som exact gps levelling... If u got a drawing we can load into the software.... Camp we built in MeS had a fall trough the hole camp from end to end, and a couple of steps on the other way. Some intricate levelling and planning to get that right! And maybee i'll bring my two asistants with me.

  359. #359637slayer2008-04-24 14:34

ive never seen a dumptruck dump like that, looks like the box itself has to slide back?

  360. #360MKTEF2008-04-24 14:41

Its a picture not official existing.... Its a bed for a hooklift, but then u got to have those vertical smal sylinders helping u the first .5 foot. That lift dosen't have them, so he has problems tipping it, so then he has to nearly load it off the truck to get it emptied. Tryed it for a day, and parked the bed....

  361. #361Rockbreaker2008-04-24 14:54

Very happy to see how you spend mine and others taxmoney MKTEF Maybe that is why you can afford and others do not:beatsme:beatsme

  362. #362MKTEF2008-04-24 15:09

I ought to have some serious talk with you! U know Norwegian law complayes to us when doing jobs abroad. So we can't just fool around with power, water, sanitary and stuff. We where demanded to put asphalt and gravel all over, so u need some stuff to get that right. (So it was a clean and nice camp, no mud when raining) And regarding taxmoney, our nations Army is very soon a joke...My2cents. All machinery equipment is now "located" in our unit. The training squadron at Skjold is borrowing part of one of our troops equipment.(and i dont sayanything about size here...) Not as before when we bought more than 20 new dozers. In A&T they reported 4 new D65 and one D85.... Much of it is nearly new now, but thats because a lot where old. Like the 5350 that had passed 22 years...

  363. #363MKTEF2008-04-26 15:44

One of Haehre's rubber ducks. Here is one i missed last time. A typical rubber duck with scandinavian extras and trailer. I bet he got more equipment stored by the barracks. It was parked all up to the north of the site.

  364. #364bobcat ron2008-04-26 19:59

Ooooohh baby, now that's my dream ditch digging chariot of Cat Yellow fire!!!!!

  365. #365equipment fan2008-04-26 21:57

very nice setup!I also love this excavator with the rototilt. Why we don`t have that setup in America?

  366. #366bobcat ron2008-04-26 22:52

I would never be able to use that Roto-Tilt in my ditch cleaning, our ditches are too narrow and the bucket linkage would just leave deep dents in the ditch edge, but someday I'll get to try one out...............somewhere...........over the rainbow..............

  367. #367AtlasRob2008-04-27 15:33

Thanks for those pics MKTEF, I keep wondering about a trailer for my duck, but I cant change the ingrained habits of a life time that many of my customers have Why have a self sufficient duck when you can run a truck with hiab, a dumper and a forklift. :beatsme What would we do with those spare drivers

  368. #368Rockbreaker2008-04-30 11:15

Fill it up!! Found some pics for you all of some ADTS with full load on Must be good for the tires

  369. #369Ray Welsh2008-04-30 15:38

If the tyres can take it, the truck certainly will. They are a great bit of gear.......C ya Ray

  370. #370JDOFMEMI2008-04-30 16:11

I think someone forgot to do an air check! Ray is right though, if the tires will hold, pile it on. If they are overloaded, just slow er down a bit.

  371. #371MKTEF2008-05-01 04:48

Notice, all of them has added strips on the dumpbox Volvo seems too build them to smal/low....

  372. #372redline2008-05-01 15:57

there volvo's they can handle that all day, like they said if the tyres can handle it without failing that is

  373. #373Sparffo2008-05-02 05:05

In the last two pic's there is a lot of empty space still! man those operators should get fired, for driving around with half capacity they could put some gravel and small rocks between those big boulders! wonder how the "4 sale" looks like on those machines? "great agtrucks, with low hours and only light usage!"

  374. #374MKTEF2008-05-02 12:51

Hey Vikingpower can u do us a favour? Take some pics of the new 345D and post it here? I bet a lot of guy's haven't seen that one yet. And the buckets too, we got rather special design on them. Saw it today, but my wife didn't allowe me to stop and take som pics.

  375. #375Sparffo2008-05-02 13:21

That is so strange with wifes? why can't they understand that we ahve to take equipment pics? when we are abroad or on some road trip, my wife takes landscape pictures, and i take pictures of the machines that changes the landscape she thinks i'm crazy?

  376. #376bear2008-05-02 16:38

Rubber Ducks I like those rubber duck excavators and don't know why. They get used alot in florida after hurricanes to clear debris and stuff. friend of mine had worked all day after the last bad bunch and it finally occored to him to start using the bucket to feel if the bridges were out (covered in water) he checks several and almost decides not to check this last one on this road but he does... no bridge boom bottoms out and he turns around and goes back to the garage. Dude had a serious case of the shakes when he got home. I like the trailers and stuff on them too. that would be very handy here on my farm.

  377. #377vikingpower2008-05-02 18:14

Hello MKTEF here are some pictures of my new piece got it on tuesday i will come back later with some info about the 345 i also took one picture of the gps system visual digger from mikrofyn :thumbsup the bucket on the 345 is a 3.3 m3 tilt bucket

That 345 looks nice Always loved the 345s,lots of power and a very calm machine to operate. JR had a tilt bucket for his 345 and it was awesome:woohoo:my2c

  380. #380MKTEF2008-05-03 04:22

There was a brand new rockbucket from Gjerstad lying right by the machine. I believed it was for the 345D.

  381. #381vikingpower2008-05-03 06:38

the bucket lying beside the machine is a rockbucket from Klepp 2.9 m3 i will post some pictures of it when i go back to work over the weekend

:Banghead man was he lucky. I dont mind working in water but no way will I move without checking what is or isnt there. I have seen the results of being in only 18" of water and forgetting where you dug earlier :Banghead It wasn't me :cool2 I had to go and get it out.

  384. #384AtlasRob2008-05-03 15:47

Wow, nice machine. You boys are streets ahead of us in the use of gps Is that tilt bucket on Q hitch? or have you got a rotating head on it. I know you boys like your rotating heads but a 345 with rock bucket on a head tell me no!

  385. #385Rockbreaker2008-05-04 01:57

Fantastic Pics Just joined today, and would like to say thanks for taking the time to post such great pics from Norway. I cannot believe how advanced your machines are compared with the basic spec provided in the UK. I often hire a Cat 312c and equip it with a Tilting bucket, as it has two way pipework and that is often looked at with complete amazement here. However the price of fuel and complete lack of Competent operators here will probably push things forward, as we try to get the most from each machine. Love to see some high spec Rubber Duck pics or even a Mecalac if you see any.

  389. #389Northart2008-05-04 14:10

Drilling ? Hello Vikingpower; Amazing pictures of the customization of equipment. Nice to see someone elses ideas. Where's the air compressor ? It wouldn't work over here, as we use gangs of drills ,pioneering road rock cuts. Way high up, where that, could not reach. They take hand drills and drill anchors and winch the pioneer drills up, in some real hellacious spots. Of course in different situations like yours it's suitable. But still, to tie up a big machine like that, for just one drill, must drive up the cost of drilling tremendously. Innovative just the same , thanks for posting.

The worlds biggest ADT I've surched for pics of this/theese Volvos for a long time. Finaly i found one from the side. A A70 specially made for the Svalbard coal mines. And a 4 axled ADT is not a new invention as u can see. Nice body and it gets loaded max each time.... Not in regular/daily use anymore, but handy when its a bit busy... Page 2, in this news paper from Leonard Nilsen AS. Transports coal from the mine to the harbour.. http://lasso.norbye.no/weblicate/lasso/LNS/resources/Nr_15-09.04._2008.pdf Not something u see everyday... Take a look here too: It's not only KOO thats using Cats and sledges: http://lasso.norbye.no/weblicate/lasso/LNS/resources/Nr_14-02.04._2008.pdf Page 4. And we are talking about D8's here.... Page 1 shows one of the trucks thats taken over for the A70.

  393. #393MKTEF2008-05-13 15:55

Thats one of mine! Brage, Balder, Frøy; they got names everybody. Old Norwegian names, but not those that Adolf's friends used.... Where did u find it? looks to be in one of our sandpits.. If not wrong, on a job we did for the local shooting club at Hovdmoen...

Crazy Norwegians. Found this job yesterday, and i mean it deserves some attention. Pics is of a powerplant project, water comes trough pipes from a higher level. Theese pics is from the building of the powerstation. 1. Is a overview, water comes from the waterfall up to the left. Is leaded by pipes down the pic. 2. Shows the pipe dimmention. 3 and 4. Building the foundation for the powerstation. 5. Check the rigg hanging from the bucket of the Komatsu. More is comming

  396. #396MKTEF2008-05-19 16:12

Talk about walking on the edge. 1. Steep, yes... 2. The powerstation base is finished. 3. One of Norways biggest mobile cranes is brought in Demag AC 600.(biggest on wheels) 4. Check this bird view out, tells you how steep it is... 5. From the mounting of the pipes down to the turbine. Turbine and generator, together with the pipes was mounted with the 600t crane.

  397. #397MKTEF2008-05-19 16:22

Here u see the pipes going into the turbine house down by the water. And a picture showing the line of the pipes. This is how electricity is generated in Norway And man, i am glad i didn't have to back that crane out after the snowfall on the pics. Some towing help would be most needed...

Long time no see, summer is time for side kicks working and relaxing:drinkup Last week we had a exam for some heavy equipment operators in the quarry. In Norway we have an education for operators of heavy equipment going over some years and finally they have an teoretic and practical exam. As i am one of the 2 juding the exam we desided to have out here As you can see only Volvo excavators 2x290blc and one ew160b. And even the 290 vovo`s with Rototilt:exactly

  412. #412MKTEF2008-07-07 12:35

Nice pics Rockbreaker. Did they get the basement floor within requirements? Did you allow them to build the road with the rubber duck? There is supposed to be some whelloader and ADT driving as well.... I've got two/three aprentice guy's that i follow up at work. Two of them is employed in our unit, the third is a soldier doing his time. Right now they are at a trailer course for their truckdriver license.(CE) After vacation we'll continue on a small project i'm running in the camp. 3500m2 storage area for containers.... And i have a document here, Praksiskandidatordningen, that i have to fill out. Maybe you show up here for my practical test?

  413. #413Rockbreaker2008-07-07 14:02

Hey there MKTEF. They only have to use one machine for the test.. It goes over four days.. First day we meet and explain that they will have make a document, covering plan for the job, draving and what laws to follow, time plan etc.. Second day they have to prepare the site (meaning they will set out corners for the digging and pipelines in to the basement and what heigt the area will be from a given point) When preparing we only say that we want them to dig out a basement about 1,7-1,8 meters deep wih a trench into it. Then they have to calculate the capasity of the machine they will use and calculate how big hole they can dig out in 8 hours dizzy) Third day they set the plan they have made out to real life And the last they make a written evaluation on how they think they did and what they could have done better And if we are impressed they get the certificate for heavy equpment operators:jerry

  414. #414MKTEF2008-07-07 15:50

Nearly as i expected. There is obviously some difference in how the test is done. I know some has to make a roadfill, turn, with a fall into the turn. Thats with the wheelloader.+ the basement. Some again have been trough a shorter test, only 1-2 days. U do as much as possible on the basement, while the judge looks on how u handle the machine. On another test i witnessed the candidates had to load the masses(from the basement) on a ADT, fill the road and lay it out with the wheelloader. On that test they where three guy's changing on the three machines, so that all had to show they mastered each of the jobs/machines. As u are a judge here; How is a test on a grader done? Demand is to be able to course and fine grade fillings and maintain roads. A bit difficult to make a huge plan for that type of work, and to put out all the marks... One of my aprentice guys has the grader as his main machine. And i have never heard about how that test is done practically. (I am heading for the grader....)

  415. #415Lashlander2008-07-07 17:41

Is this test a government mandated thing or a private policy? Do you have to have a license for every piece of equipment you run or just Excavators and Graders. What about Cranes? Getting to be an operator needs to carry a brief case around with all his paperwork in order to have a job.

  416. #416Rockbreaker2008-07-08 01:02

Hello Lash. This is a goverment covered education. We have scools with heavy equipment where you can go and get basic information on the most common equipment. This is a one year long education, and you can go for an extra year to learn more, but most of them then start as a trainee with a firm. When doing so the firm get support from the goverment for having them while their under the trainee contract. The students get paid 55% and rising as they get closer to the exam. The education takes about 3 years. The certificat you get is for excavators, dozers, backhoe, wheelloader, grader. Certificat is the size of a drivers lizens(small brief case??) Crane operators have to take a course for some weeks (don`t know how long it takes) and learn the safety issues and operating of the crane. Not sure but i do belive they too then get a certificat for the operating:beatsme

  417. #417Lashlander2008-07-08 01:31

This kinda sounds like an apprenticeship here in the states. If I understand correctly it is not mandatory? Is a Crane certification mandatory in Norway yet? Some states have a certification requirement here but not the feds yet. I do believe its coming though.

  418. #418Rockbreaker2008-07-08 03:24

Thats right lash its not mandatory, but you do have to have a safety course on 40 hours before operating heavy equipment. And all equipment have to be certified once a year. On cranes you got to have an operating license.

  419. #419Rockbreaker2008-07-08 03:30

Mktef. Just got to have a road an some large area to perform the test in and grader should be ok. Never examed an grader operator before but the plan is that you should have 8 hours work ops

  420. #420MKTEF2008-07-08 14:43

Hey Lash. Regarding Cranes its the same system. License is divided into groups, G1 to G8, G1 Mobile, G2tower, G3portal, G4Bridge/traverse and G8 truckcrane U can start with a course, 152 or 232 hours for a mobile crane. Truck is shortest with 76 or 92 hours. The difference in hours is related to if you take a course by a sertified school or as a aprentice in a firm.(a senior operator is then sertfied as a teacher) Some of the lessons is the same, so when u have G1 u don't need a full course for G2/G3 and so on. Then u also can join a public school and do it that way. The license is given to you very early in the education. Then u get more seat time and can go up to a test like rockbreaker is the judge for on heavy equipment. U get a "letter as a craftsman" to hang on your wall. I don't know another english word for it. If u want to have your butt in a crane, truck or heavy equipment u need a license. This license is mandatory. The "letter as a craftsman" is now more and more important to have. It opens a lot of doors.... For heavy equipment we got klasses from M1 to M6 +M20.

Thanks for the reply. Now I'm wondering why did it become a requirement? Were there gettig to be to many accidents? If thats the case, since it became a requirement has there been a reduction in accidents?

  422. #422MKTEF2008-07-09 12:00

Good question. There has always been some sort of courses. In the beginning with the unions and some firms living of it. Around 1990-1992 the workers healt department made a new law that forced the instructors and their firms/organisations to be sertified. They also made education plans for everything. Hours and practice to get a lisence. Sertification is not more than having a quality system that proves you and your instructors to have the right competense around education. And that u follow the education plans. Accidents have gone down after the system was introdused. Slowly but still, sinking. Problem now is the accidents is rising dramaticaly, we tend to have to many "imported" risktakers here.(Polish workers f instanse) They are grown up with little or no safety habbits at all.. And they always answer "Yes sir, no problem sir". I bet u know that problem... And another thing, when i wrote truck last place in my previous post i mean a lifting truck. f instance a container/pallet handler/lifter.

  423. #423Klutz2008-07-09 17:31

Forklift is the word you're looking for. rofessor

  424. #424Lashlander2008-07-10 01:10

Thanks MKTEF and Rockbreaker for the information. Its the law here you have to have a certification for a forklift but not Cranes. There are way more accidents involving forklifts than cranes but there are way more forklifts too. Plus everyones qualified to run a forklift

  425. #425cps2008-07-20 18:53

those excavators with the cranes are very intersting, are they costom build, or is there a company making them for the line crews?

  426. #426Rockbreaker2008-07-21 15:12

If its the Multidocker you are asking about ,they are built in Sweden I guess you can say they are custom built beacuse i think you can decide most of the setup yourself. But as always i`m not sure

  427. #427SweCE2008-07-21 16:25

  428. #428hitch2008-07-21 23:27

Very nice scene in Norway and the machines also cool!

  429. #429cps2008-07-22 13:38

Hi again, i ve seen the multi dockers before, but i was talking about the excavators working with the over-head powerline crews, never seen any thing like that before they look intersting?

  430. #430Rockbreaker2008-07-22 17:37

Yep now i got it :dizzy Those machines are custom built, depending on type of crane they put on them. There is one firm in Norway doing this and i have seen some machies from Sweden also. I guess its a clever solution for terrain where the trucks dont come in

  431. #431Bellboy2008-07-23 11:06

Eish. We're lucky in Africa in that we don't get that irritating, cold white stuff, what you call it? Oh yes,... SNOW

  432. #432catd8t2008-07-24 20:57

lets keep this one going anyone just cause their not pictures from Norway doesn't mean u cant post them

  433. #433Rockbreaker2008-07-25 01:39

I totally agree And i have some more pics for you Pic #1 Unloading a D9 from ship. Beacuse of the long coast line Norway has (and many small roads) its often better to transport the equipment on ships from job to job. 438. #438MKTEF2008-08-13 11:56

Nice pics 385c JR! Looks like you are adding some volume to that bucket... Are you shure Kanaris can handle that? Haven't seen you around on E-6 lately, are you moved to another job? Or just hiding behind the piles....

  439. #439385c JR2008-08-13 16:37

I was not sure, but it was no problem Kanaris can handle everything you know Not much to do on the E6 job for me, so I just hide behind the piles for a while.

  440. #440Rockbreaker2008-08-31 13:58

While waiting on 385jr and more pics i add some more myself All pics from West coast of Norway, beacuse of the oil industry over there they always got something to doo

  441. #441AtlasRob2008-08-31 15:01

Intresting extension on the arm of that 325, is it fixed rigid with the bucket ram pipes attached to the extension to work the bucket as normal or does it work like an extra joint, in which case what activates the bucket ram Having that side door open through me for a minute, at first glance I thought it was a zero bum model Oh ow, dont look at the Volvo 210 apart from the fact he's dropped his arm and bucket down a hole, he's the wrong way around :stirthepot opcorn

  442. #442mcc10752008-08-31 15:07

Who makes or sells the high viz suit that the guy has on in the pic with the long reach 325. Thanks.

  443. #443Per Eriksson2008-08-31 15:21

That type of clothing are almost mandatory over here, looks more proffessional and are practical and safe too unlike running around in jeans and all sort of jackets, vests and stuff like in the US. Some of the more popular suppliers, http://www.blaklader.se/en/change-market/ http://www.fristads.se http://www.jobman.se/index.php?id=11&L=2

  444. #444mcc10752008-08-31 16:19

My company just got away from the vests and went high viz shirts. We have a full uniform service, so all of our guys wear the same gear. The service is very inexpensive, they bring clean stuff on mondays and take away the dirty stuff. I am just not sure what we are going to do for winter gear with high viz trim. Thank for the websites.

  445. #445bigblueox2008-09-01 10:18

why would you put such a small bucket on an excavator? no seriously can i rent that thing when your not using it? i think you could probally pitch a good size tent in that thing!

  446. #446Dozerboy2008-09-02 20:19

We're just a bunch of dumb ditch diggers they ain't nothing professional about it. I wear my cowboy boots and hat too.

  447. #447MKTEF2008-09-03 13:20

I believe its another thing comming into consideration here too. All firms here must give their employers workclothing for free. Thats according to the work environment law. Then most of the pics we post here is from construction biz. If u then have your butt near a public road, then high vis is mandatory. So most construction firms design their own gear with a print on the back. All is either in yellow or orange high vis. And its easier to choose high vis, as most firms is often close to/on public roads... Some of the biggest firms have made their own special designed clothes, other just by of the shelf and get a print on the back.. And not to forget, when u move outside your machine u got to wear steel toe boots... Nice??:

  448. #448AtlasRob2008-09-04 16:12

It is now possible to get a sweater / jumper with high vis markings, got myself a couple last winter off ebay in UK. There are plenty of bomber jackets, coats and leggings available in UK.

  449. #449mcc10752008-09-04 20:00

Thank you for the info. I am going to ceck out Ebay UK tonight. Thanks

  450. #450Dozerboy2008-09-05 21:26

Thats cool here your lucky if the company will supply drinking water. If you really lucky they even put some ice in it. Of course I would rather make a little more $$$ then have my company supply me with them fancy duds.

  451. #451Lashlander2008-09-05 21:50

  460. #460BCB2008-09-16 23:45

so we would call it 20%, looks great but how is it for operating at the end of the day or when its not real bright out?

  461. #461Haul-Pak2008-09-17 00:06

Machine looks in great condition (For a change!) Been crawling all over one today .... Not so pretty on the inside.

  462. #462MKTEF2008-09-17 16:18

I bet 385C JR got the machine for himself. Carpet on the floor, shoes by the door, first name and cellphone# on the door and wonderbaum in the backwindow. There is nothing like your own machine, and when u spend so much time in it, of course it should look nice. Nice pics by the way! Thanks..

  463. #463385c JR2008-09-18 15:52

Thanks for the nice words... You are absolute right mr.MKTEF, about carpet, shoes and everything, except the wonderbaum. I hate wonderbaum. :usa

Nice Do you have some more pics? Where do you worke Vikingpower?

  466. #466MKTEF2008-09-20 15:17

One of my informers told me a story today. Have any of you Norwegian users heard the story of a D11, some big rocks and a white pick-up? I heard that the pick-up was "moved" together with the rocks, without the operator seeing it up front..:cool2 Does any of u have any pics? Somebody who can confirm that this happend? Vikingpower have u abandoned the 670? I thought u spent your days on E-6..

  467. #467Rockbreaker2008-09-20 18:52

Maybe the cars on that firm needs a flag on the roof like the ones used in the mine quarrys?:Banghead Looks like Vikingpower has changed employer and got a brand new 460 on the deal:woohoo

  468. #46895zIV2008-09-20 19:34

Hi-Vis Wear While I'm not one for the reflective pants, my job requires that you have a high visiblity wear on. Ours are the Orange with reflective strips on them. When I delivered precast I went to our HR dept. about getting uniform jackets with the reflective strips on them just for the ease and safety for when we where working on road jobs and such. I just don't like having to fight vests on and off.

yeah I wish I could dig bug dust all day

  472. #472MKTEF2008-09-21 05:34

I am nut shure, but i mean i saw that 460 on E-6 yesterday. Its a rental machine, so Vikingpower may just like Volvo's bether than the Orange 670.. I'm a bit surpriced every time i pass that worksite, new machines and firms added to the fleet.... I bet somebody has been dooing a not to good job in Microsoft Project. And to finish up time, they have to get more machinery in.

  473. #473Frazzy2008-09-21 07:41

New bucket for our Cat 385L The old one is a cat bucket 5.2 m^2, and the new one is a Gjerstad 5.5^m2.. The cat bucket just didn't put out, and got worn out to fast.. Allot of extra welding work to keep it fit, and the cat teeth system didn't put out since they only lasted about 200-250hours, so we chanced back to a KVX-System, like we had on our old 375, they last longer But again takes longer to change

  474. #474Nac2008-09-21 11:39

That KVX system looks like you cut out the factory cutting lip and replace with a KVX lip that has holes to mount their flippable teeth? am i right?

  475. #475Sparffo2008-09-23 14:48

and i tought this was the reason the machines i randomly operate look soo worn out excavation done the smash boom bang way nice pictures anyway! do you guys have snow in Norway yet?

  476. #476MKTEF2008-09-26 10:53

No snow yet, but 5mm of ice on the car windows each morning this week. (Kongsberg)

  477. #477Sparffo2008-09-26 15:05

ointhead that sucks really badly... we had last week ice on the windows also, this week has been a little warmer (KoO standards). but i have a really bad period ahead, my Fiat ducato has burnt it's electrical system (surprice). the heating fan and lights doesn't work, in fact it's quite few electrical gadgets that work at all

The History of the pick up Well it was not the D11 it was a D8 an the car was a Ford Focus and it happend on Vestby south of Oslo. The owner of the Ford parked his car on a top of and hill and the driver could not se it because of the blind sone when he was going up that hill so he hit the car in the side and pushed it around 20 meters before the coworkers told him on the radio :notworthy:notworthy

  483. #483MKTEF2008-09-26 16:21

OK, interresting.. What i heard about was a pickup parked in between some boulders on the filling. Supposed to be on new E-6. But your story have to bee sent in return to our source, cause i now the source is one of the D8 drivers.... Might be the source himself who drove it, and changed the story..... Norway's worst public road. There has been a contest where drivers could propose the worst road in Norway. The finalists where judged by a panel with truckdrivers from the truck drivers assosiation. We are talking about a road belonging to the official states network of roads. So this is not a private or community road. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guB1OGWjz1M Sorry its in Norwegian, the mayor says that the transport firm will take us on a ride. What really happend to the Cat 330c Hello sorry for being slow to reply on the pictures of the Cat. the excavator was hit by a landslide early in the morning on 27 of november and the driver was hurt very badly and is still hospitalised, recovering from the injuries he got beeing thrown out of the excavator when the gravvel and clay tumbled the machine down the hillside. The co workers in the company from Koren Blasting a/s, Anlegg a/s and Bredesen a/s were the driver woks did a heroic work to save the drivers life when there still was landslides coming down the driver was laying in the tree 10 meters down from the machine near the water 3 first pictures are from the same day rest of the pictures are before the saving of the machine and when we worked to get it up on the 12 and 13 th of december. 2 of the other pictures is Espen "horny" standing on top of it before i started to prepare for the rescue of the machine

Thats a tough recovery there. Best wishes to the operator. Looks like he is lucky to be with you still. Can you tell us what precautions were taken to prevent further sliding before you could undertake the recovery? Looks like a risky proposition for the machines used, and the personnel.

  517. #517JimBruce422008-12-27 15:14

Hope the operator makes a full recovery. Am I correct in assuming he was thrown from the machine because he was not wearing the seat belt? I wonder if it would have helped him from being as severely injured or just further trapped him in the muck that appears to have filled the cab.

  518. #518AtlasRob2008-12-27 16:19

Its frightening how close an off the cuff comment can be sometimes. Thanks for the update and very sorry to hear the operator was injured. From your comments his work colleages need a bloody good cheer and congratulations for having the guts to go after him and save him. The way you say early hours, was it in the dark ? Thanks for the pictures and info, some would think you wrong for taking them at the time, but they really show how dangerous plant operation can be, thanks.

  519. #519Rockbreaker2008-12-27 17:04

Thanks Vikingpower for letting us all know the story behind the pics.. Glad to hear that the operator survived what must have been a close call. Working in the winter when its not more than 7-8 hours of daylight is never easy, and from the pics, it can be quite scary too.

  520. #520Steve Frazier2008-12-27 23:33

This is probably one rare case where being thrown clear of the machine saved the operator's life. Looking at the amount of debris inside the cab, the operator probably would have been killed if he had been strapped inside.

  521. #521DPete2008-12-28 11:53

That is a brutal series of pics, best wishes to the operator he's lucky to be alive.

  522. #522cps2009-01-25 07:36

Wheres the pics gone??? Hi there all in Norway, hope you are all well! and also hope the driver of the cat is recovering well! Really enjoy this tread so i hope you all are going to graces us with more great photo's? Thanks cps

  533. #533Cat-Peter2009-02-12 12:31

Chevy's Well pullpan I couldnt tell You any numbers but I see several everyday. Ok not as in the US! Mostly it's Chevy but Dodge is quite common Ford's are pretty rare. And Thank You!!:drinkup Peter

  534. #534Steve Frazier2009-02-12 14:00

I have a question. Is that little marker light on the fender installed when you purchase or is it something you've added? I see them on a lot of European vehicles, are they a requirement there?

  535. #535AtlasRob2009-02-12 14:28

Do you mean this? different terminology, I think of fender as bumper but looking at the picture I can only think you mean this,..... indicator repeater on the wing. If so, then I am suprised you ask! so I have to assume its a legal requirement in Europe, but not in USA, and would be factory fit. :drinkup

  536. #536Cat-Peter2009-02-13 08:28

Side marker It was fitted when i bought the truck. It's connected to the turn signal. And we must have it. Cheers, Peter

  537. #537Steve Frazier2009-02-13 14:19

I imagine it's helpful during lane changes, we're starting to see them here on imported European vehicles, I'd imagine they will eventually be required here as well.

  538. #538Cat-Peter2009-02-14 12:58

Yes I think they are good...............if people just could use the turn signals! I dont know what's wrong with people! Are they ashamed to use turn signals or what? Peter

  539. #539Rockbreaker2009-03-13 05:06

More pics.. Time for more pics First pics are from the north island of Svalbard:cool2 They take out coal from inside mountain year around and stock up for the summer when ships can arrive for transport to the custumers. Use trucks(volvo) and some special made Adt`s for transport. Roads are only commen in a few areas so if they need to transport something where there are no roads use a bulldoser, or snowcat. Maybe the pics will make you wiser, than my writing

  540. #540AtlasRob2009-03-13 17:48

Hi Rockbreaker, you been pinching pics off Koo's site? :notworthy he's goin to be seriously jealous, them tractors have got full cabs Nice pics, never seen a 4 axle ADT ! is that 8x8 or is it a tag axle on the back, 8x6 ?

Rockbreaker Nice to see you back. Thanks for the Volvo 4 axle picture. I have seen a few pictures, but never before one that showed the side view like that. Looks like it makes a good coal hauler.

  542. #542Rockbreaker2009-03-16 02:39

  551. #551Rockbreaker2009-07-11 15:49

Hello klaus:drinkup The pictures of the EX1800 is old, worked in a rock quarry called Norsk stein. They traded it in for the EX1200 you can see in the other pics.. And they bought a Komatsu WA1200 too:jawdrop Will find some pics of it for you Are you going to do maintence on the O&K RH 170 that Titania bought?

  552. #552cps2009-07-11 20:37

Great pictures as always rockbreaker:drinkup Glad to here you are busy in Norway! Hope you can get some pics of the wa1200, that would be great!

  553. #553Rockbreaker2009-07-12 03:48

I was wrong about the WA 1200 ,it is Titania that has bought it. Norsk stein has bought a WA 800 And i found some pics for you of course:jerry:jerry

  554. #554Young James2009-07-16 11:27

wow, that thing is huge. We had a WA-600 and I thought that was big!

I can see you got pics from 385C JR's project. Got any more? I was a bit surprised that LNS transported their new volvos on sledges. 48m3 box on those trailers, 85t apr 170'Lbs total weight on those truck/trailers. My last project will be on display in next A&T.

  557. #557Rockbreaker2009-10-06 15:27

  559. #559MKTEF2009-10-11 10:41

Realy nice pics! But u take a calculated risk working in the waves like that. Salt water up to the wheels when tipping... Rust will eat the machines quickly if u aint washing every weekend.

  560. #560AtlasRob2009-10-17 13:05

Great pics as always Rockbreaker. 1) I dont fancy those waves and 2) its toooo dam cold I've got to love that C@t 324D with the tilty on, just imagine the detail a man could build into a snowman with that The Gauntlet has been laid down Eddie, lets see what you can do, you've got a few months to get some seat time before the snow gets here

  561. #561Chris55002009-10-26 01:01

mayrklaus/rockbreaker do you guys happen to know if that 1200 is the updated dash 3 with the CRI QSK60? I happen to know the guy that did the demo for the mine on the 1200, a man by the name of Peter Barett who works for Komatsu in the U.K. I would call him but I just cant justify a long distance call for the sake of knowing what engine it has Edit: I dont suppose you have any photos of the Komatsu PC5500-6 electric drive in Boliden's Aitik copper mine in Sweden by any chance? The first one commisioned in Europe.

  562. #562mayrklaus2009-10-27 09:50

hello when i was there the told me that it is the last version of the loader which is avaliable. if you are interessted to publish pictures here i can send it to some one to do it for me because i do not know how it works. best regards klaus

  563. #563AtlasRob2009-10-31 13:55

I ought to get commission for the number of times I mention the "Earthmovers" mag, if only I was clever enough to hang on to it when I have read it instead of letting somebody else take care of it for me so it didnt get lost then I would be able to post the pictures you so desire. That Aitik mine seems to be one of their favourite places for a visit they obviously have a very good relationship with Bolidens. PICTURES!!!!!! they are always wanted, needed, desired, luste.... ok you get the idea. Take a look at this link it gives a very good guide on how to upload pictures.

hello there are the other pictures from norway. best regards klaus

  566. #566JDOFMEMI2009-11-01 14:55

Mayerclaus Nice pictures there. I like the hi rise frame on the demo machine. I see the 1200 loader has chains on all 4 tires. That seems odd to me. I have usually seen them only on the front, as the front is the ones that are likely to get into the rock. If you are running over rock with the rear tires, you are doing something wrong.

  567. #567Klutz2009-11-02 11:36

Reallly nice pictures, Mayerclaus! What is the location of the tower crane?

  568. #568mayrklaus2009-11-03 03:42

I'll bring this thread up again... This is 2 of our 5x 605 who transport the rock up from the tunnel in Haugesund. I'll prepare more pics...

  570. #570MKTEF2011-02-17 15:58

More pics. 1. Is of our spare bucket. 7,5m3 and 10500kg weight(empty) apr 21' lbs.:cool2(rented 350 behind, and at another tunnellopening) 2.and 3. Is of one of our L350F who load the 605's in first post. 4. Is from the tipping area. 5. Some of the masses is transported with barges. Our machines live a VERY hard life in the tunnell operations.

  571. #571MKTEF2011-02-17 16:08

More pics EC 210 with a hammer at the face of one of the tunnels. Preparing before drilling. L220E with 10500h on the meter. And the tunnell opening where most pics are taken. Its also a roundabout down there, where the rock is kept as a big supporting pillar in the centre..:cool2 Tunnels goes down and under a fjord...

  574. #574Colorado Digger2011-02-25 20:53

great fotos :usa:usathanks for taking the time to provide some history and load the fotos. how do the baracks work? do you guy's have stairs on the other side. i don't know how you could have running water and sanitary sewer with the temp the way they are. i imagine you guys have a container that is the shower room. but really dont have a good idea. you guys love cats and volvos that is apparent. the tunnel sure looks interesting. are you having to pump ground water out from under the fjord. i find the long lipped rock buckets very interesting regards, cd :usa:usa

  575. #575Blacksmoke072011-02-25 23:20

Hey RockBreaker , havent gone through this entire thread to see if there was a picture of it, but do you have a bigger picture of your Avatar/Signature picture of the 5130/5230...? That looks crazy!

  576. #576hvy 1ton2011-02-26 00:56

Looks like they are offices built out of 20' containers. I bet they are storing them in the yard for the winter. Closest thing I have seen was a mobile Border Patrol outpost. They are built out of 4 20's in a c-shape with an covered center for vehicles and supplies. I don't know how they got the containers to these remote places, jeep trails are too nice to be what these were. MTVR's had to be involded. :crazy Best pic i've seen of it. 5130B :bash

  577. #577MKTEF2011-02-26 06:24

Tunnels: We do long holedrilling outside the profile, and inject concrete in the holes. That makes a concrete area/shield outside the profile that is "waterproof". Water is leaking in, but not so much. A stationary pumpstation is installed at the lowest point. We also run a number of movable pumping stations up from the tunnel face as the tunnel is being build. Barracks: They are not containers, theese are wider than containers and longer. They come in all types of inside systems. They can be sleep/sleep, kitchen, stairs, rest rooms, changing rooms, ets. Most are sleep/sleep, that means two sleeping rooms. You can se one on the picture, they have one window on the end. At the end is a room with a smal bath with shower. Bed, desk, chair and wardrobe. When mounted side by side there is a long hall in the middle with the rooms on the sides. Water and sewage comes out on the lower corner, you can se some on the pics. Water and sewage is then insulated and heating cord runs along the waterpipe. I'll take some pics of the rigg i am living in from mon-thursday... And my office, the newest version of office barrack. Buckets in my posts here are side dumping buckets, a special aplication mostly used in Scandinavia. Big and heavy!

  578. #578hvy 1ton2011-02-26 07:14

That sounds way nicer than any setup i have seen. Looking forward to more pics. I did notice that the bucket was a side dump. Is the 350 loading 605's in the tunnel? If it is i can definitely see the need for a side dump bucket.

  579. #579Per Eriksson2011-02-26 15:32

At 1:30 in this clip you se a good example of side loading, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE6GMMo8sz8&feature=related

  580. #580MKTEF2011-02-27 08:05

Here is some pics from my former project. A 5 km part of E18 to Sweden. Most Ec700C because i picked them out for a comercial magazine.. Ohh, and that Cat had not 60h on it before it needed a new wheel. (no produser is bether than the others )

  581. #581MKTEF2011-02-27 08:22

Here is a example of a Norwegian truck and pup combination. 4 axle truck and 2 axle pup. 32t+18t. (64'+36'Lbs) 50t total weight. Here you see how they dump the load and turn. He dumps the pup strait back first. Then jackknives and dumps the truckload over the pups pullingbeam. Then drives away. (He is also out and checks if there is stones on the pup) Other combinations is a 3 axle + a 3 axle pup. (sorry guys, i know u call it a 3 and a 2 axle truck in US ) And yes there is a minimum distance between the last axle on the truck, and the 1. on the pup. And a minimum distance between the first on the truck, and the last on the pup.

I'll add some pics from a project up north. They are building a molo around the ship Murmansk, and then pumping the water out, to bring the demolition machines in on the sea bed. Pics is from Sørøya, i belive the place in the background is Sørvær. 300 people live in that smal village. Atlantic is straight out from the end of the wreck. Storms has flattened the molo a couple of times.:cool2 This is way above the artic circle..... One of the pics show the wreck and Sørvær before they started. I posted a video of a L220 Vs Cat 980, that Volvo is in one of the pics. Pics is screendumps from this camera: http://murmansk.livecam360.com/flash/main2.php Copyright is Kystverket or ** Miljø (Decom)? Pics shown is live, but 24h delayed, so it might be dark when u watch!

Wow thats a lot of work to scrap that ship. I would to see more pics as this project progressives.

Nice shear line drilled on a batter in that one photo with the 700 Volvo. Usually drill them on 600mm/2' centers here, look's about the same. Near the start of the thread , there is a Tramac stick drill mounted on a Cat 320/322- handy unit in the right setting. Cheers from the Canadian shield, Dominion

  588. #588MKTEF2011-03-19 11:59

Dozerboy: Just use the link in the post. In the summer its light all day around. I'll post some follow up when the pumping starts... Dominion: Its strict regulations on rock bolting and taking down loose rock. On this project we priced the bolting and all, but then did a presplit. The presplit meant that we used apr 5-10% of the planned bolts. We also only did a washdown with water instead of the normal work with crowbars.. This one is done with 3" and apr 2' centerhole, 100grams detonating cord before the main blast. A pain in the a** when the height of the blast is low. We earned money on doing it this way, and the road authorities save money on maintenance later. When driving along the stretch, you can see where ** has done the blasting compared to other firms.

  589. #589MKTEF2011-03-25 15:26

I've been looking a long time for pics of 282 and 283, posted a couple here earlier. This week both where parked in the backyard at the volvo importer. They have seen bether times, but still got a lot of interresting technical solutions. 17 pics.... Nice recapped tires at this one:cool2

  593. #593JDOFMEMI2011-03-25 23:58

Some great photos and video. I like the Volvo vs Cat video. It matches my experience in the larger size with L-330 vs 988F I also like the shots of the extended A-40's. Sad to see them in this shape, but it happens to all machines eventually.

Rockbreaker/ MKTEF, There are a lot different conditions in Norway than Australia i have had a good time reading and looking at the pictures from Norway. Thanks for showing us a bit of your world keep it coming Cheers Leroy::beerchug

Fantastic photos, MKTEF, I am really hooked on the live feed of the Murmansk. I have downloaded it and am watching the progress, it will be really interesting when they start to scrap it. Keep them coming. RnR.

  596. #596MKTEF2011-04-08 13:11

Thank you very much guy's! Realy appreciate it. I take a lot of pics and posting some is not a big deal. And i have to say that i enjoy your pics, as much as you enjoy mine! Here is my latest video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfUGCn3zUNg Shows how concrete is applied to walls and roof in tunnels, as a reinforcement of the mountain. One of the spraying trucks is made by **, the other is bought. Taken at the face of one of the tunnels ** is bulding. The 2. part of the film is from the opening of a new tunnel. They bolt and put concrete on the rock, then blast smal charges unntill they get well inside the mountain. They start with half the length and the centre part of the opening. I have pics of that too, but thats another story.

  597. #597hammerman2011-04-08 14:49

I was looking your pics and...does that type of wheels without drawing good on snow and ice? or you use tyre chains too with trucks, here in Spain when it´s raining and of course snowing,we don´t work, I think that in your northern countries, when the water is freezed, all winter, do you can work? sorry my ignorance...

  598. #598MKTEF2011-04-08 15:24

Hammerman, theese two A70's worked on Svalbard. Summer is like 3 months...the rest is snow an ice. The first one got good wintertires, if you look close at the second one you see the pattern is cut with smal cuts all over. Theese two adt's will handle ice and snow bether than normal tires. Up her in Norway we work all year around. Smaler adt's and smal equipment use winter chains. Bigger equipment run all year around, and in winter we remove the snow and sand the roads. A cm with sand all over. And of course our fillings is with good rock, so the water runs off and it dosent get muddy as down by you. Have look at the Ec700C video, its filmed in the winter.:cool2

Some of you asked about our barracks. Here is some picks of a room. A sleeping barrack has 2 rooms, 1 at each end. Then there is a hallway in the middle. Barracks is mounted at the side of each other, then connected with panels and insulation. There is also a roof panel on the roof. Water and sewage is at one end in the corner. Added a pic from the outside of a typical barrack system. As you can see on the pic, the hallway in the middle of the sleeping barracks, continues into a hallway in the end of the changing barracks. I'll come back with pics of other types of barracks.(kitchen, TV room, changing barracks++)

This year at least 6 projects in the 120+ Million Euro size is comming out and is started. Norways road authoroties has let our infrastructure go down the drain. Now there is a huge amount of work to do for everybody. +rail and airport projects.(One 100Mill euro on Oslo airport started 2 weeks ago) Some of theese projects can/will be done by companies from outside Norway.(good luck to them) Move your favourite rumpsteak up here in June and start searching for work. Thats the best advice i can give you.(bring your papers with you) The socalled echonomic chrisis, only came on the news here in Norway.

  602. #602hammerman2011-04-10 05:35

Right now I will begin to get information about,I´m sure that working won´t come to my home to find me...thanks and have good sunday.

  603. #603Per Eriksson2011-04-10 16:00

You could also try to look in Sweden, simpler to get a job here's since we as opposed to Norway are members of the european Union.

  604. #604hammerman2011-04-10 16:35

You are right, from here I ask to all people one help to help me to find a job, married, two children and above all very hard working, available from right now wherever someone needs me,retaining walls, final trim,mine,quarrying,trenching...etc you can see "some of my works" in one thread called in the same form posted in this forum.

  605. #605joispoi2011-04-11 03:03

Norway is an EEC member. It´s just as easy for a European resident to get a job in Norway as in any EU member country.

  606. #606hammerman2011-04-13 01:54

I was trying in both countries, however the searching engines go with its norwegian/swedish languages;when I used with english the search takes me to Norway-Canada and Sweden-Florida, any advide about or specific word to start? for example excavator operator translated to norwegian...the online dictionary, doesn´t give me good results...Thanks in advance

  607. #607MKTEF2011-04-24 06:53

A old Akerman EC450 still in use. Leaks oil and toothless This guy works late som evenings, and is right outside my barrack window.

  608. #608MKTEF2011-04-24 07:04

Some pics from the harbour area of Oslo, where i sleep in one of the barrack systems. I counted xx cranes, how many do you count? (in 1. pic) The new opera is right over the bay behind the bulding in construction. ** got at least 5 barrack systems in the area..

  609. #609MitchSA2011-04-26 13:12

Awesome pics MKTEF! I've never seen an Akerman in the flesh. Found some info for them on Volvo Dealer Network, not much though.

The Norwegian coastal express goes from Bergen to Kirkenes.(Hurtigruta) NRK(Norwegian broadcasting television) is sending live from the trip. They are now in Lofoten, there is at least 3 days left of sending... Weather is extremely good, and the view is just stunning. Here is a link: http://www.nrk.no/hurtigruten/ This is Norway at it's best... (and i bet there is som heavy equipment along the coast too.)

  611. #611Taylortractornu2011-07-02 22:05

MKTEF I ve got a question late in the game for you. I was reading all the posts earlier and saw the little track over tire hydraulic unit. Im planning on building a light tracked unit to move material through the woods an around the farm. I saw a similar track set up on a Kravette log skidder the other day in Classic Plant and Machinery Mag. Did it get around good on rough/ forest terrain and did the front axle tension the tracks. Did it ever have any trouble walking out of track? Did it have a good pushing power. Take care and keep up the great pics.

  612. #612RocksnRoses2012-04-26 08:48

I thought I would bring this post from MKTEF back up. I have been watching the progress ever since he posted the link on HEF. A couple of days ago they pumped all the water out from around the Murmansk and are now demolishing the ship. I have found this really interesting. RnR.

  613. #613MKTEF2012-04-28 15:25

I agree with that Rocksnroses! The battleship is on dry ground, and they have started cutting on the front deck. ** has had real big problems with both the weather and the ocean floor. The sand on the bottom leaked water in under the sheetpiling. They have used DTH drilling riggs to inject stuff to get it tight. U can see two rigs on the left by the towboat. One big compressor all to the left and one in the middle up by the edge of the molo. In a couple of weeks i bet the big crawlers will arrive, with their shears and start cutting it up big time.

  614. #614JDOFMEMI2012-04-29 14:58

Thanks for bringing this back up. I had missed out on much of it, and it was nice to catch up again.

  615. #615koens902015-04-23 06:31

It's getting an old topic, but is there someone who has more pictures of Norway? I really love it ! And can someone tell me where they're looking for surveyors/supervisors??

  616. #6169420pullpan2015-04-23 20:06

    I second that!

  617. #617MKTEF2015-04-25 11:10

I am still lurking around... Any special Things you guys want to see pics of? Regarding work, you have to look in the ads. www.finn.no is a Place. or at www.nav.no Right now some Foreign Contractors is thrown out of contracts, because they are not productive enough. Spanish firm got their contract canselled and they where expelled from a competition this month. Here is a pic from a Project we are doing.

  618. #618ddigger2015-04-25 11:26

Great shot! Thanks. Just share more pictures!

  619. #619MKTEF2015-04-25 11:47

Here is some more.. First is of correct marking of military explosives One pic of a Moxy MT31. Driver got out on the edge, contra steared, hit the rock at left, Box got overturned and bearing bolts snapped of.(he wore the seatbelt and was shaken but ok) Then 3 pics of a PC210 in the mud. 1 time travelling over is ok, but the second time he just went trough.(from 2009)

  620. #620ddigger2015-04-25 12:10

    Those are great, thanks.

  621. #621JDOFMEMI2015-04-26 14:47

MKTEF Glad to see you around still. I love the crusher job. Looks like tough work. Those are the fun ones.

  622. #622koens902015-04-27 06:22

Nice pics! I like infrastructure projects in common, and also reclamation projects, but I don't know or you have them a lot? Are most of the excavators working with 3D GPS in scandinavia? In Holland most of them work with Trimble or Topcon, so as surveyor I have a lot of work to prepare 3D models etc. .

  623. #623MKTEF2015-04-29 15:52

Koens90: All excavators on Projects have 3d. The 3 most usual ones is Trimble, Topcon and Scanlaser. And dozers, graders and even compactors. On most Projects you get the models from the Builder. You just copy them on usb sticks or they download them from the database and directly into the machines.(machines have a cellphone modem) Today you will not see any stakes on Projects. Even the Army where i work has 3d on graders and dozer..

  624. #624koens902015-04-29 16:16

Oh maybe you even have more machines with 3D GPS than in Holland in that case. On large projects the main contractor will supply the models, and give them to the operators on USB disk. But last few years also small companies are getting gps on their machines, and they don't have surveyors and draftsmen. When they have some own projects, they can't make 3D models. For me as one-man company it's nice to help them with the surveying and to make 3D models But do you have enough reception of 3G signals for correction in entire Norway? For my previous job I often used a base station due to lack of reception...

  625. #625pafarmer2015-05-04 10:31

Great pictures ! Norway looks much like my backyard here in the States in those pictures....Very Cool indeed. Keep them coming. I really enjoy seeing other parts of the World. I'll never have the money to actually travel so this is the only way for mr to see what others around do with their Heavy Equipment. Thanks for taking the time to post these....

  626. #626RonG2015-05-04 11:12

I broke away when the GPS etc thing was breaking ground among the contractors.I saw the hardware and realized its potential but never got to use it.It is incomprehensible to me to imagine a job site with no grade stakes.Ron G

  627. #627MKTEF2015-05-10 14:54

RonG: A couple of years ago a European contractor, Alpine, whon a job here. Then for the first time in 7-10 years stakes was put up. No one could beliewe in what they saw. Whell, they went bankrupcy in some months. Not due to this Project..but. Over here the wages is so high, that GPS saves you a lot of manhours. Koens: The Norwegian maping authorothy has a service you can pay for. You just pay for the correction signals over the mobilphone network. The machine Calls up and receiwes the signals over phone. They have a number of gps recievers all over Norway so they can calculate a correct correction value. Most big Contractors set up their own base on a fixed spot on the work site. The phone system is very positive for surveyors as you can go where ever you want, and just get corrections into Your mapbook.

  628. #628hvy 1ton2015-05-10 15:11

Good to see you posting again MKTEF. Was the placard on the bucket magnetic or did you wait for it to wear off? The rock job looks like fun, but the rest is the kind of excitement i try to avoid.

  629. #629MKTEF2015-05-10 15:28

Its magnetic. I try to avoid those situations too, but as we do educational stuff, some guys are unlucky. The Moxy is a Write of as of now. It is to expensive to repair it. Maybe the aprentice guys on the workshop is challenged With it..

  630. #630MKTEF2015-05-13 11:38

I think this one is rather Nice. Made a couple of days ago by a local neewspaper, Veidekke is the contractor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0DkkXYdxpc I have to say that u can make pritty Nice videos With drones.

  631. #631kshansen2015-05-13 12:47

Wonder if they would let me borrow one of those to do my driveway next winter?:laugh

  632. #632MKTEF2015-05-13 15:32

After studying that Movie in fulls screen i noticed the reason for the publisity. The front snowblower has a gps antenna mounted at the middle. And a screen inside the loader telling him where the road goes. I also noticed that the last one is following the roadfence at parts of the road. www.overaasen.no has a us suplier you can contact for testing. They are present at many big airports where they have snow in the wintertime. Blowers used in the video is UTV600, With Mercedes V8 450Kw, it trows 4500tonns/hour. Same engines as in Our armys UPV425. There is a short video from a course i had on their homepage about the UPV425.

  633. #633koens902015-05-19 13:51

Okay, than its quite the same as in Holland. As surveyor I use phone signals as well because I have a lot of different working areas. On bigger projects or areas where the signal is really poor, we also place base stations. Especially for projects where accuracy is very important, because with radio signals the corrections are faster. Thanks for the explanation!

  634. #634MKTEF2015-06-15 13:45

Here is a video of a smal transport in Norway. Max total weight With 4 tractors is 450t. Total torque is apr 12 000nm. Max uphill on this transport is 1:10. Done by the Norwegian state Power grid Company.(No state owns the main powerlines, that supply the lokal powercompanies) They own the landingship too.(It can offload on a Beach if nessecary) http://www.tu.no/tutv/kraft/2015/06/09/her-frakter-de-en-190-tonns-trafo-opp-den-svingete-veien11

Following up with another one. Here the pilot pulls the wire up to the powermast. Hooks the needle on the mast and hooks of the needle. Hooks on at the middle, and pulls it trough the mast. Hooks off. Hooks on to the front of the needle and pulls the wire to the Next mast. He's got some hours in that heli for shure...And are well paid.. http://www.tu.no/tutv/kraft/2014/11/11/nervepirrende-manover-her-trer-piloten-linen-gjennom-naloyet

  636. #636kshansen2015-06-15 15:31

Yea not too bad but he missed the groove on the pulley! Like I could get that heli of the ground one meter and back down with out wrecking it! Heck I have trouble working the mouse on this computer some days!

Down Trollstigen with a semitrailer This is a video from the transport of Bicycles Down Trollstigen. 8-10% downhill.(triathlon contest in july) This guy got a permit... Length of this combination is 17,5m. Scania R730.. max length here is apr 40 feet/13,1m, single trucks/busses, with steared last axle. The driver says its touristbusses stuck here every day during the summer time.(+ Foreign trailers trying to save time) Video is in 2x speed. Norwegian landscape at its best https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=YqR76amDsNM

  638. #638kshansen2015-08-01 08:00

Is that a two way road? Would like to take a ride down that road on my sidecar outfit! But not if that Scania was coming the other way!

  639. #639MKTEF2015-08-01 14:39

Yes its a two way road. But not allowed for semies like the Scania. Its to long. Max size is single truck/bus, max apr40feet/13.1m long. Road was closed when this guy with the Scania went down. And he got a permit for that trip. Search for trillstigen on youtube...there is some films of long busses in trouble.. This is a touristattraction, and total caos on the road, espesially when the busses get stuck. At 0:28 you can see the viewpoint build by the road authorities. Its built out in the air, so you can see down the whole valley, With the road on the left side.

Long time since someone posted her. I like this picture, you have to zoom in to see all the details.. Taken some weeks ago. I am in the midle in the yellow jacket. Everything went ok. There is some smal birds in the air!
