Hey guys We have a pc220-5 and its got a starting problem. Its showing some codes and they are .52 and .08 anyone know what they mean please and thanks.
The first code that you show is S2 and not 52. The dot if front of each code should be flashing to indicate the engine speed sensor is working when the engine is running. It will flash faster as the engine speed is increased. S2 just means the monitor panel controls are in S mode and number 2 power setting. That is normal. The 08 indicates there is a problem with the TVC solenoid. That solenoid is on the pump and should have two wires going into it. Usually the insulation on the wiring goes bad when heat and oil are on them for a long time. The codes are not related to the no start issue. The usual problem in the electrical system concerns the extra wire going into the alternator. Turn the key and without starting the engine check for voltage there. If you have any it will mean the alternator has a blown diode inside it and the diode will have to be replaced. If there is no voltage there with the engine shut down there is a safety relay probably bolted around the starter solenoid. There should be a two wire harness attached to it. There should not be any voltage on either contact on the harness connector with the key on engine off. You can use a wire to jump over the solenoid to see if the starter works. Let us know what you find.
Ok thanks for your reply. We will check them things when i get a chance to go near it again. The problem we are having is that one day we were operating the machine and the revs dropped to idle and couldnt adjust revs. Then could not turn machine off with key and wouldnt not restart with the key. We could start it by bridging the starter but still had no revs. We replaced the ignition switch thinking that was the problem but still the same. Any help on that side of things would be great. Cheers
Has anyone added any extra electrical components such as a radio or extra fan heater lately?
Nah we never use either as neither work haha
So we have tested the wires at the alt and the terminals lettered r and b have battery voltage with ign on and e would be earth wouldnt it ? And we think you are talking about the wire labled r its the smallest one on the alt. Is there a way to bypass this to confirm that this is the problem ? Would this cause the no start and no engine turn off problem ? Thanks hope to hear soon
I suspect you may have a bad ground terminal somewhere. Many of the sensors, relays, or solenoids pick up their ground from different locations on the machine so with the multiple symptoms like you are having that is where I would start.
If it is the wire that John C is referring to on the alternator you do not bypass it as a test you simply disconnect it and try starting engine. This can interfere with the starting but should not cause stop issues. Regards
Alright ive had a bit better look at things and took that wire off and walah it starts. So is it a new alt time ? And ours is a 35a alt could we get say a 30a alt ?Also i think i found out why its not stopping. Its because there is excessive play in the throttle linkage from the motor.
If the diodes are leaking an auto electrician can repair easily but some times you can buy new Chinese alt cheaper than working on old one. Unless you have added a lot of aftermarket electrical load to the machine going down 5amps will not give you any problems. Would not go any lower though. You can go up some in output also without causing any problems.
Hey thanks for the reply and help. Its harder to find the 35amp we need but i can find the 30 amp easily. We dont use the radio or the fans and no extra electrical items have been added. You know where we can get a cheaper 35 amp alt ? Cheers
I am not familiar with your machine but i assume it is the older style with not to much electrical load, in which case i would not hesitate using a 30Amp alt. The pain you always seem to run into is a non genuine will often have slightly different terminal reconfiguration or a mounting bracket will be slightly different things like that. If you know what your doing theirs no problem. There is a mob in opposition to Ashdown selling imports i will have to find there name. Ebay is sometimes good but the sellers don't post much detail so you have to ask them questions. Unless time is a constraint I personally would not be looking for a replacement without having a quick look at least inside your old one. I can help walk you through the process if you were interested. Don't suppose you put a meter on it when you got it going and checked if it was still charging.
Yeah its the older squarer style machine. We did check the charge rate and have had a problem with over time the batterys looseing charge so thats why we were leaning towards a replacement. The charge rate was like 20.4 so not the best. If you could find the link That would be great thanks
the voltage you have is actually damaging your battery's as you have discharged them so low. When its running you should be looking for around 28.4V. We bought an alternator from here not so long ago. http://www.burson.com.au/ I have to find a friend of mine to get the details of that other company so you have to be patient sorry.
Is the alt the same between the 6d105 to our 6d95L ?
