In the early days of work on the Sea to Sky job, this was one of the first major undertakings by the rock crew. Most of the people working on this were ex-loggers or logging road builders. The hoe operator, rock truck drivers and most of the blasters had spent time in the BC mountains. The tricky parts were working along side the very busy Upper Levels highway which feeds the Horseshoe bay ferry terminal and all traffic to Squamish and Whistler ( going West ) heading East, all that traffic is funneled into Vancouver. Also, we had to keep the bridge in good shape as we blasted our way past it ( it got demo'd after the retaining wall went up ) The last factor was the walking trails and houses below our site, and gravity being what it is...all the broken rock wanted to go down there. Thanks for the pics and story! The last pic makes me a little nervous haha :notworthy
You're welcome.....by the way, what's to be be nervous about in the last pic?.....the height, or the close proximity to the houses?
Typical Kiewit, everthing as it should be. Another job well done.
Thanks for the comment Bob. I just want to point out that in a blog post that I put up today ( Videos of the Sea to Sky Job ) there are a group of guys yelling out that Segment 2 was the "best"..... In actual fact, Segment 1 in West Vancouver, was by far the best....and we kinda felt bad that the other guys couldn't match our performance for schedule and safety.
