Power train error caterpillar

Icecat1982 ยท 2025-05-28 17:18

I have a caterpillar 318F wheel excavator 2017. It has had this issue from the beginning. When driving long distance and shifting to 2nd gear an error comes up "power train error" It could be fixed tempereraly by putting in a new speed sensor. Eventually that stopped working and everything else we can think of has been exchanged. The last thing being the ecm model and she has been working fine since then(january) but to night it happend again and the error appeard and she shifts to first gear and is stuck there. Sometimes on highways witch is not ideal. Has someone had this issue and has any idea what to try next? Excuse my spelling, english is not my first language.

We're going to need a machine Serial Number to look up technical information.

    Is this the the number:FB800382

Yes that's it. The next question is whether or not your local Cat dealer worked on the machine and did they download a Product Status Report in Adobe pdf format while they had their computer hooked up to it.? By protocoal they should have done. The most recent the better. We need to see what Diagnostic Codes were coming up along with the "Power Train Error" message.

That is the problem, the machine doesnt give any errorcodes while this happens. It just goes in to safe mode and everything connected to this problem has been changed out.

Do you mean that it gives no visible Error Codes to the operator.? If the answer is yes that does not mean no Codes were registered in the various electronic control modules (ECMs) in the machine.

Can you provide a list of what was changed out.?

Yes,it just said powertrain error for about20-15 seconds and then nothing except the malfunction. No numbers or letters. Tonight was the first time an error appeared along the malfunction that has happend multible times.

The speedometer also goes crazy when this happends

I understand that, however.................. It is quote possible for Error/Diagnostic Codes to be Logged in one or more ECMs but not be displayed to the operator. This is the information that needs to be obtained, and the Product Status Report (PSR) is where it will be found. EDIT: You may be able to access diagnostic information via the Service Menu on the keypad. My first thought based on your description of the speedometer behavious is a wiring harness fault, whether that is in a harness itself or in the connector between one harness and another. This is especially true when you consider that one wiring harness passes through the centre swivel.

Caterpillar has numerous times hooked a computer up to the machine and it never gives an indication that there is any problem with it.

We also checked the connections and replaced the swivel.

See if this procedure helps to identify anything.
