Hi We ran our 190 JCB Robot out of fuel and have been unable to prime it. Read the manual, which shows a little hand squeeze pump before the filter which has a bleed screw. Only problem is that my JCB came without this in line squeeze pump. I have tried bleeding by putting fuel down the bleed screw with a syringe......No luck I have put 60 litres of fuel in, was thinking of filling it to the brim to get a bit of help from gravity. Long and short is that the manual shows a non existent in line hand squeeze pump, so there must be another way to bleed these things. Any comments appreciated. cheers
You might try a piece of inner tube with the valve still on. Clamp the piece over the fuel fill and add a few lbs of air, then go through the bleeding procedure, one step at a time.
Thanks - so you are suggesting to use the fuel tank as the pump - would make sense then to fill it to the brim!
It really doesn't make a lot of difference if the tank is completely full or not as long as the line going to the injector pump is covered. Another idea would be to add an electric pump somewhere between the tank and injector pump it there's enough room.
Well I phoned up JCB today, as the machine is different to the manual. There must be a reasonable way when you change fuel filters. The answer from JCB, (yet to be tested and not in my manual) leave the ignition on for 3 minutes before trying to start it and it will automatically self prime......... Will try it on Friday - I hope it works.
Interesting that information like that doesn't show up in the operation and maintenance manual.
They sent me a piece of paper which was an addendum or update to the manual which stated the 3 minute wait. They obviously changed the machine before changing the manual
For anyone interested, the self primer as per the manual does not work alone. There is a tiny bubble under the fuel pump, which, after the 3 minutes of self priming, needs to be hand pumped for about 10 minute and then presto!
