so like the title says proximity switches and potentiometers. Proximity switches indicate the location of system components, but where would you see this at on a machine and whats the real purpose of knowing the location, cant you just look at the component and know where it is :beatsme Potentiometers, i know they are used in acceleration pedals in trucks and in joysticks but again what does it do?? hopefully someone can help me out
Potentiometers Know the location of a component through the full range of travel. so you can program it to stop or start anywhere. say like a loader boom you can set it to stop at top, bottom or anywhere, or multiple settings. very nice for repetitive work-loading trucks. they work off of changing the voltage coming out of them. Example=at one end of travel 1.0v at other end 5.0v. As a accelerator it tells the computer what to do, 1.0v=idle 5.ov= full throttle. Proximity switches only are open or closed. they tell the component to stop when it hits the switch. They may have a small range of adjustment. But only work going one way of travel normally. will stop loader boom going up only, one switch=one function.
thanks alot, that helped :thumbsup
That's fine for the old school boom and bucket positioner systems. The newer ones use a sensor that keeps track of the whole range of movement. Same sensor stops boom when booming up at the top and then again when the bucket is being lowered. On the Cats we have these points can be set from the operators seat by simply raising the bucket to the desired point and push a button and then lower to the desired point, just off the ground, push the same button. Bucket tilt on some use an identical sensor and operator can adjust the tilt of bucket as desired the same way.
