After some troubleshooting, I have determined 1 of the 2 pumps on my JD 230 CLC is cavitating under heavy load. The pump that runs the hammer circuit, the left track and swing motor has the problem. When you crank up the trottle to 100% and really work a function ties to that pump, it bogs and you get that loud machine gun sound. I check the Hydro Filter, fluid looks good and clean. Any ideas ??
return filter looks good?
cavitation is caused from pump starving for oil? years ago, my old 755 ford tlb puked two pumps in short order from cavitation....turns out the suction hose was two ply, and inner ply had let go, collapsed, starving the pump
And the only way to check this, and it's what you need to do, is drain the tank and remove/inspect the piping. If you don't find any blockage, then you don't have a cavitation problem. Then, chances are, you've either got a pump failing; or, you've got a control problem that is over-stroking your pump which would cause the piston chamber to "pop off" where it contacts the valve plate, and pressure makes a heck of a noise when they do this.
