Question? :quick attach fittings on a breaker

robdor01 ยท 2006-10-15 21:24

Doing a bit of change up between a bucket and breaker on a JCB ex. having a problem attaching the hydraulic lines back to the breaker after switch up. tried loosening the line at the breaker and bleeding off some pressure but still no luck. Fittings wont budge, in a bit . kinda new to the excavator , so any help would be greatly appreciated thx Rob

your excavator should have 2 shutoff valves somewhere along the line. i would shut them off when you switch lines. I have a Cat 320 with a hammer and i have quick coupler fittings. I have no problem pulling the lines off.

Shut the machine off, then turn on the key and operate the controls to see if that releaves the preasure in the system.

You should be able to crack the lines on the breaker to relieve some of the presser.

Sometimes when we remove our swing carriages the lines that remain on the cariage will build enough pressure in them from being in the sun so that you cant couple them back to the machine. The only fix it to push the plunger on coupling and relive the pressure-this is on the attachment itself and not the machine.

relieve pressure the key to easy on / off is to relieve pressure .when removing the breaker switch off machine, then switch ign on ,operate leavers and foot pedal until pressure has gone ,if your 3cx is equiped with the switch on the dash for the breaker switch it to the off position and operate contols and pedal again ,when removing pipes take the smaller pipe off first ,when removing the larger pipe if it still feels tight operate foot pedal again. when reataching switch off , ign on, operate controls and foot pedal ,switch on breaker switch (if fitted) and operate controls again ,attatch larger pipe first then smaller,i have been operating a 3cx for 7 years now and probably change from bucket to breaker up tp 10 times + a day and have no problems,i once had to show another driver how to do this , his way was to undo large breaker pipe get his banksman to hold pipe to fitting (we use flat face) while he hit it on with a hammer:Banghead what a mess oil everywhere and unrecognisable fittings:nono hope this helps :thumbsup

hooking up hammer to JCB excavator Parker,VEP and several other fitting companies make a screw together quick coupler that can be connected under pressure, some up to 4000 psi. They're a little spendy, under $100.00 a set, but they connect nice and will last a lot longer than the standard connector when used in a hammer circuit.
