Request for help in finding manufacture date for Caterpillar D4

I have not been able to find manufacture date for an old (~1948?) Caterpillar track tractor that was used for skidding logs by my father-in-law in the early 1950's. The serial number is 7J3695W and the only model number I have is "D4". I would appreciate help in determining the manufacture date. Thank you.
