Am I looking in the wrong place or are there just not any sections/threads about Rock Drills and mining equipment?
Not the wrong place, just no one has brought up rock drills yet. There is plenty of mining equipment and people from mines around the world on here. What do you want to know?
I didn't much care for the drilling part.... the old cabless stuff... and always standing in the wrong spot... like standing in dust storm for 10 hours... Now the push the button great.... residential blasting was a real pain.... seismos... hand drilling.... small shots, usually less than a tube of 2" tovex....in 2" pieces , 3 to a hole about 2' apart.. 8' deep holes You would shoot the 3 holes then drill 3 more.... it was kinda did they go off... but the tiny bit did the job. We had one job ,we drilled four days..18' deep...loaded, shot, nothing... the main boss said the water table filled the holes .... he called it "dead pressing"... The ground didn't even heave at all. Just a tiny rumble.. Next 4 days redrilling, this time we used plastic sock, 2 half sticks and anfo within 2' of the top... it was a *** ... but he was the big boss... needless to say it cleaned the ditch about 10' feet deep of rock... the rock probably went 75' to 100' in the air.... set off the seismo about 1/2 mile away, where the nearest house was located.
