  3. #3N.CarolinaDozer2009-09-01 08:19

awesome pics! I'm surprized that they don't make you all put down metal plates over the road for a crossing.

  4. #4gbdigger2009-09-01 08:47

That pic of the 2 - 37's loading in a turn is a no no, that will get you fired in a heartbeat around here, you run the risk of breaking the bail hook on the rear scraper.

  5. #5Cat-Peter2009-09-01 13:27

Hi again More nice pic's! Specially like that Terex dump truck. I sure hope it have an Detroit Diesel, cause thats the best way to turn diesel fuel into noice!! :scool

  15. #15Martin!2009-09-01 17:47

I did a bit of a road trip back in 2001.Drove thousands of miles .Had seen more of the US than Australia.Might come back one day and do a few thousand more but I decided that I should see a bit of Australia first and just did a 7200 kilometer trip around Queensland.Plenty of heavy earth moving action up there but cos I had my girl with me I was a good boy and only did a little bit of picture taking to keep her happy. But when I go up there next winter(its a lot cooler)things will be different.

  16. #16tippatone2009-09-01 18:43

Please post some more, I'm a scraper lover, and I think the rest of them will agree with me

  17. #17dozerdave2009-09-01 18:44

Hi Martin, Loading in circles and having 2' banks in the cut should tell somebody something. If they are not hooked up maybe the back scraper is afraid he will get lost. Anyhow nice pictures.

  18. #18Martin!2009-09-01 23:16

It was a couple of years ago I took the pics but in the first one his hooks up in the 2nd one I cant remember but the man with all the answers is on hols in the Phillipines at the moment .Maybe you are having a beer with him and dont know it Dave.:drinkup

  25. #25gd10r2009-12-04 13:23

TS-24 this is a response from Tom Lorey of Des Moines IA concering Durkin: Graham How are you doing? I was reading the forum and there is a guy (TS24) in the scraper part looking for Durkin in the Philly, PA area. Could you tell him that they have gone out of business and all the equipment has been sold. I know Mike Durkin and talked to him at the HCEA show in September. They had been involved in a law suit over a job for a number of years. They finally won the suit and got paid. There are three brothers and they all agreed that given the situation it was easier to stay out pf the business and retire. Mike said that he sold the TS 24's for under 10,000. They were the last things to go. They painted their equipment red. Thanks Tom

  26. #26ts-24 frank2009-12-05 14:04

tom still plays with toys; i would like to thank you for the info on DURKIN i missed the HCEA show this yr.now i can stop my search for those big RED MONSTERS for my project. i feel i can understand there reasons and respect that, just sorry to see a contractor of that size and history dissapear, another good piece of history gone. just one more regreat i actually was subcontracted to DURKIN in the mid 70s on the 191 bypas at the phily int airport and never thought of taking a single picture. i just wonder if they were sold off for scrap or if someone actually put them to work. i thank you for youre responce, have a great day. ts-24 frank

  27. #27cat345bl2009-12-06 17:26

Youre welcome Frank for the help, it is sad to see durkin fall, but I wonder if the new owners of their scrapers still have their red paint job or decals? Why did morrissey park those scrapers. A guy was telling me that morrissey still has 4 ac hd-41 with pusher blades on them at their main yard, along with 4 d9h's that where most likely to push those scrapers or the euclid blade-vayors. I am going to try to get pics of their 4 bv loaders still ad their yard lets see some pics.

  28. #28ts-24 frank2009-12-06 20:50

cat345bl; thanks again, you have given me so much info i will ck out the hd-41's, i think they are all parked on the fence line on the academy road exit of 95, the only ac i noticed was backed in to the far end of the shop. i will have to look closer a couple of weekends away. thanks again cat. i am going to get more info on the scrapers, and give me some time i will post pix, you were the one who told me where they were. thanks again. ts-24 frank

  29. #29bigrus2009-12-21 07:11

  30. #30scraperboy2222009-12-21 07:24

ouch you would have to be happy with that. that looks like a clark in the background on the left?

  31. #31bigrus2009-12-21 14:44

Good spotting Good spot, yes Clark/Michigan 110.15B. It was a major cotton development there at the time. Seven 15's plus four 623b's & a 633c (the 623 killer)

  32. #32bigrus2010-02-24 06:24

From the shame file (I was on a grader) A couple of 110.15B's on fresh dirt & a bit soft (80's vintage) Unfortunately the old pics don't scan too well :beatsme

  33. #33DPete2010-02-24 10:22

  35. #35Outside the box2010-02-24 16:39

saw some red iron Hey TS-24 Frank i dont know if this will help you much on your search but there was some of that red iron listed on cleveland brothers cat website under used equipment there based out of Pa, there was some terex scrapers and some older dozers i rember the pics of the scrapers they were in the weeds and didnt look like they moved for a long time i looked before i posted this one dozer is still listed at the bottom of the dozer page but the scrapers are gone. I guess one of the used equipment salesmen could maybe tell you where those machines new home is at. hope that helped and i would just like to say hi to everyone here i just found this site LOVE IT !!:notworthy

  36. #36ts-24 frank2010-02-24 21:15

red iron outside the box; thanks i will try to get some info on that site, i will let you know how i do, thanks ts-24frank

  37. #37bigrus2010-02-25 05:15

Old Clark 110-15B's Where are they now ? Do you remember the serial # of the 15 (last 2 digits). The ones I have pics of were part of a group purchase, last 2 numbers went from 37 - 44. Be interesting to find out how far they've spread throughout Australia since then

  38. #38scraperboy2222010-02-26 05:44

Hi Russ From memory the number was 224B168 A cane farmer from Ayr bought it new from Morgan Equipment we bought it from him i do not remeber what year but it had 6000hrs when we got it. We sold it about three years ago to a property owner north west of Hughenden. Bevan.

  39. #39ts-24 frank2010-02-26 09:41

outside the box; thank you for the info, i ck it out yesterday and spoke to the cleaveland bro salses person. she said that they had the red ts-24s listed with them for the lenth of the consingment and then sold them back to durkin because he must have had a buyer for them, i asked if she might know where they might have gone from there, i explained i just wanted to photograph them before it is too late. so i guess i will just have to wait untill someone tells me they have seen the big red monsters somewhere, i dont feel comfortable contacting mike durkin again, i feel like i am imposing at this point. so if anyone sees the big red monsters anywhere please let me know, i feel i would be willing to travel to take pix of them, hopefully before they meet the tourch. too much of our history is already gone, just like the ts-32s in these pictures. it feels so good to know there are others out there who love this stuff as much as i do. i got some real good shots of some cat ADTs the other day the guy was verry acomadating, i will try to post when i get more time off from work, thanks again. ts-24 frank

  40. #40ts-24 frank2010-02-26 09:54

hd-41s mike; i was up to jdms yard last weekend and saw the ts-24s moved but could not see the hd-41s or the BLADEVATORS anywhere. going up to the city to the HOSPITAL again this weekend will try to stop, serching for a contact person ther to get more info on that big job, kinda of excited about maby seeing the ts-24s in action again, HOPE-HOPE. if you get a chance tell me what i missed there. thanks again for all youre help. ts-24 frank

Hi Martin Just found these pictures of Aussie scrapers and nearly fell out of my chair! The shots you have of the DOPOD scraper with rear fenders has me in the operator's seat. I remember dear old No:8 very fondly, it was a good scoop. Where did you take the second set of pictures? The first shot of the DOPOD machines you posted must have been taken at Mt Owen in the Hunter Valley. I remember the job well and the shot of No: 7 coming over the edge of the ROM was one of the "exciting" things we needed to do on that job. The operator of that machine was Greg Hawke. Would love to have a copy of your photos if I could as I don't have many shots of me at the wheel (funny about that). Any way am attaching a couple of shots of these same machines for your interest. Cheers Gordon

  42. #42Gavin84w2010-03-05 04:24

What ever become of snake and Dopod? Run into his gear a lot on various jobs i worked at Mt Owen, Mt Arthur, Penrith Lakes, Western Sydney Dragway etc. Was about the only one with 21B,s.

  43. #43Martin!2010-03-05 19:12

Hi Gordon. Those pics were taken at the dragstrip at Eastern Creek.

  44. #44Gord2292010-03-06 04:43

Hi Gavin84w The Slithery Chap voluntarily sold all the gear about 4 or 5 years ago. He is still about here locally (Canberra/Queanbeyan) doing small rural work for himself with a D4 I understand! Who were you working for at Mt Owen/Mt Arthur? If you were at Mt Owen in August 1996 then you will probably remeber the second photo I posted. That was my bad! Cheers Gordon

  45. #45Gord2292010-03-06 04:45

Martin Any chance you could email ( [email protected] ) me the photos of the Snake gear? Cheers Gordon

  46. #46Gavin84w2010-03-06 18:30

Gordon, i was there assembling new gear on the hardstand in front of the workshop so did not get to see to much of the other site goings ons, was impressive the day everything was set up there for pics and then they went to work, i reckon there was 6 guys in the cab of 1 of those 996 faceshovels when it went to work.

  47. #47plantman.uk2010-04-13 16:14

great pictures mate...love to see em being pushed...let the big dog eat

  48. #48yowie2010-05-29 08:37

you have got to love australian scoop opperators most of the photos seem to be of machines crashed or run off and edge

  49. #49plantman.uk2010-05-30 02:19

Very nice pictures mate. Have you got much work over there?

  50. #50bigrus2010-08-09 06:55

Moving black cheese Spent the weekend finishing off an water storage extension. Material was already damp before we started, 2" of rain during the job just made it a bit more interesting.

  51. #51Gord2292010-11-05 03:23

More Thrills from Australia! Hey Martin Just thought you might like to see some more Aussie operator antics. This scraper has a real habit of laying down for a rest quite frequently! Cheers Gordon

  52. #52bigrus2010-11-05 06:19

Oh Dear See, another low bank excursion Not often anyone falls off a high one, the "ring gear" is usually a bit tighter (old Wabco owners joke)

  53. #53mudober2010-11-25 19:51

nice equiptment cab and ac except for the truck it looks neat tho.be cool if you could hear it .

  54. #54powershifter2011-01-17 01:05

    I am pretty sure that's me on number 2, [37 E's including series 2 in front] and no we weren't hooked up at the time but were trying to bog out a soft spot. The scrapers belong to Richard Champion and his partner Colin and the shots were taken at the SITA landfill site in Western Sydney where we were working for Richards cousin Brendon Lowe [Lowe Earthmoving] who owns the old water cart. The series two was on it's first job in Australia and had come from England, there were also 2 series one and a pair of 37G's, These guys come from family of earth movers with both Richard and Brendon having relatives up and down the east coast operating there own gear including Peter Champion {Peter Champion Mining}

  55. #55rare ss2011-04-01 08:00

hey guys.. thought i'd join up and share some scraper pic's! this was a busy time at work.. we had 8 of our scrapers parked up for over a year then won a big job 2000kms away and had 4 weeks to get them up to standard and shipped over to shift some dirt pretty rare "633G" made from a 631G front and a 633EII rear end

  56. #56rare ss2011-04-01 23:15

How long do you have to wait before being able to post up direct pic's?..

  57. #57Gord2292011-04-02 03:13

Great shots of very rare machines Rare SS! You should be able to upload your own photos directly by now. I think the rule was 10 posts before being given that privilege.

  58. #58DIMITRIS2011-04-14 11:54

  60. #60rare ss2011-04-16 08:20

your best bet to gain work is to be sponsered by an employer who is willing to give you a job to gain a visa to immigrate major mining companies may do this but your better off going for a meduim size earthmoving contractor or an employment company to do this if you get a resume or "CV" drawn up and google some earthmoving companies / contractors based in Western Australia and get your name out there to everyone you might be able to pick up something
