Sealant for chain case to drive motor

B4autodark ยท 2022-04-23 17:33

Can anyone recommend a sealant for between the drive motor and chain case on a JCB 205? I can't see where it would have to be hi - temp but it would have to be oil resistant. Thanks.

Usually a viton shaft seal is used, either single or double lipped. Some motors the seal can be replaced by removing a C retaining clip were the output shaft is. Others the motor has to be disassembled to replace. Before doing any thing on the motor check for shaft movement. In most cases worn bearings are the cause of seal failure.

Not talking about the shaft seal, it's the mating surfaces between the drive motor and the chain case.

Permatex ultra grey and call it a day. At least one manufacturer I know of uses it from the factory for oil pan and front cover gaskets.
