Second hand equipment purchase

FarmerAlex ยท 2011-08-07 00:17

Hi there all, i purchased a big commercial zero turn mower. Now this was second hand with 300 hrs on it. The dealer told me i had to wait two weeks to get my hands on it as they had to put new blades etc on it. The dealer told me that it was all ready to go when i picked it up, everything had been checked. Now i have used it for six hours total time, purchased three days ago, and i find out today that one of the main drive boxes for the blades is complete toast. The bottom plate, normally has four bolts holding the bearing carrier in, 3 had gone, let all the oil out and destroyed two gears, plus bearings, blades and a few other things. Has anyone had experience going back to dealers with these types of complaints, and is there any hope of them getting it fixed? Thanks

Hi Alex , In the 6 hours use was there oil all over the place ? If not ,you would imagine they did not service it as they said they did .All you can do is go and see them , and hope they do the right thing by you . .Look at the tax invoice to see if there are any terms and conditions on it .

Take it back to them and I reckon they have to fix it. If they jib at it I'd be giving consumer affairs a go.If they are a responsable company they will fix it without argument

It's a shame but like anything secondhand - buyer beware!

Well an update, the dealer asked me to bring in the machine, i showed all the bits and pieces of what was left of my great machine. They are now rebuilding the mower at their cost, fantastic service i must say... Provided i get it some time this year and it does work at the end of it

That is awesome. Hopefully you know how easily that could've gone way different. Are you willing to share who you bought it from. That's the kind of dealers we need to support. However I don't push much dirt with a z-mower. Especially in your neck of the woods. LOL.

Lectro i know what you mean, i have had rotten service from other dealers, and when the all mighty explosion happened was having kittens how i was going to get it all sorted out. They have exceeded all my expectations in every respect... In this economic situation i've had to diversify to keep working, give me a big sandpit and i'll bring my toys and i'll be as happy as a pig in mud

Well got the mower back today, everything is really running sweetly now. Two hours in and theres an almighty crashing and banging. The roll pin they had put in was either loose or had been forgotten about. The drive shaft made quite a few nice dints in my deck... Luckily no major damage. Hope others out there have a bit better luck

I would take it back again. It sounds as if they are a good dealer and will work with you. I had several issues with a used tractor that I purchased from a dealer a few years ago. On the 4th trip, after 120 hours of use, the dealer offered and I accepted, to buy it back for what I had paid for it. To this day, I deal exclusively with that dealer.

Gday all, well the left hand hydraulic drive stopped last week, looks like the machine might be going to be scrapped. The dealer told me they had spent more on it than its worth. So might be getting a different machine, thats the advantage of buying off a dealer...
