how much to charge to install a septic system. chamber style system
3500
Minimum $ 6500.00 for 1000 gal. concrete tank & 3- 100' runs of 24" chambers.
I can do it for tree fiddy. Not many people here can give you an accurate price, as we are not in your area. We do not know the going rate for materials, and the average labor rate for your area. We also do not have enough details to price fairly. We have no specs telling us what size tank, how many feet of chambers, how much stone, do we need to do anything other than show up dig some holes and go home or do we have some grading and clearing to do before we can even get started. Not to mention, maybe im the low baller hack that is going to cut every corner so i can put a few dollars in my pocket at leave you with a mess.
I used to charge $3500 to $4500 depending on weather or not it had a perimeter drain. usually a 1250 gallon tank
1000 gallon tank and 231 liner feet of 3 foot chambers is what is called for here with 60 min perk soil. we do them for 3500. nothing else included. no sewer line to the tank. just cover after we are done. every thing else is extra.
6000-7000 is about right for my area. That would include the line from the house to the tank, a 1000 gallon tank, the line from the tank to the d box, the d box, and the field itself. Hitting rock not included. I know there a people who will do it cheaper but I don't want to do one for much less than this.
I do a 1000 gallon concrete tank 3 100 ft lines and run from the house to the tank for 3500 but that is cheaper than most in our area but we can do one in a day and make good money so were happy.
We installed a chamber septic system for a customer back in july of 2012. Plan called for a precast 1000 gallon tank & four 80' long lines and a curtain drain / "tile" above the system. The chambers we used are 34 inches wide and 5 feet long sections so it takes a three foot wide trench. My cost on the materials was around 3,200 bucks then add labor on top of that. Here is a link to another thread talking about chamber systems chassross2003 HeavyEquipmentForums
thanks to all who posted info great feed back. this will be the first one that i have installed didn't know how much to charge.
did this include material
The cost of a septic system installation depends on your requirements, if you want a concrete septic tank then it will be more costly then a plastic septic tank. There are many types of septic system like a cost of $3200. To $5000. To install an aerobic treatment unit.
In the very early days by me a plastic tank would be less than concrete but that's hardly the case anymore as now they are greatly improved.A 1K gallon plastic tank is app. $1,300 and a concrete one is app.$800.The labor is greater on the plastic due to strict backfilling requirements and you have the cost of pea gravel also which makes the installed price even greater. The smallest system by me usually gets priced out at app. $10,000,not uncommon to see ones at $50,000 with a 4' fill section and 500' of leach fields.

man, that's scary. i assume you're self employed, bought the equipment, insurance, fuel, know what the material costs are...and you're asking people on the internet from all over to give you pricing? i have no clue what your costs are. if you want to do it the way you're asking....you'd be better off having a "friend" request quotes from contractors in your local area. but when you cut them all by 10% to get the job, doing it this way, you STILL have no clue what to charge. had you asked how long it would take on the average to install a system....that's a different story. being new in the business, you probably don't have much of a history in the time it will take. but, if you don't establish/know your costs of operation....well, good luck!
Dayexco, Do you think you are being a little rough on the guy? Yes, starting a new business or doing something you have never done is scary. That is why some people take risk and some don't because it is scary. You can't alway's price jobs based on your costs. I would say in this economy you can rarely price a job based on your cost. You sometimes have to base it on the market price for the job. Maybe the op wants to get a feel for whether his estimated cost to do the septic is around the cost that the market deems reasonable and customary. I surely don't want to charge my customer's way more than what it "should cost". I want my work to provide value to the customer so they will hopefully call me again and/or recommend me to someone else. Some of the people that have established businesses seem to scoff at the ignorance of people just getting started. In my area I have seen many people that bought a skid steer spreading gravel for small driveways and 10 years later they have a decent business making money doing bigger jobs. I have also been at the supply houses seeing some established contractors laughing at the new guy's mistakes meanwhile the new guy is learning from his mistakes and growing his business.
how much to charge to install a septic system. chamber style system thanks to all who posted info great feed back. this will be the first one that i have installed didn't know how much to charge. his words, not mine. part of being "in" business, is determining and knowing your costs, what you want to get paid, and what profit margin you desire...he, by what i read of his posts, does not. and it's not my intent to beat him up here at all. for his business to survive, he needs to know this. as i stated in my post, had he requested assistance on estimating time, material, possibly informing him of some unknowns that have caught us in the game...i'd say give him all the help/assistance you can. for you to tell him what to charge is doing him a great disservice and if HE doesn't get a handle on his cost of operation...will probably fail. but that is just my opinion.
Just interested to know, dont you have to have a drainers licence in U.S.A. to install a septic system ? just curious as here in Aus you sure eed one or you dont do the job, this is inspected by l0ocal authority plumbing/drainage inspectors and no licence no can do. thanks, Garrie.
Drainers license huh? No,not usually over here but there are some counties that require a septic system license over and above having a regular contractor's license.By me, where there is no license required or available, the county board of health administers septic systems.
We have to go through a DEPT. Enviromental Conservation (DEC) class, pass a test pay $300 bucks a year and we are "certified". 3 br septics go for about $6500 here in Alaska
I think every state has its own rules. In TX we have to design the system per a LICENSED site evaluator, then it has to be installed by a LICENSED either Class I or Class II OSSF installer. Additionally if an aerobic system is installed, an annual maintenance contract must be filed with the county using a LICENSED maintenance provider. Adds up to a lot of $$$$. Don't have to have a plumber's license but we generally pipe the system from the home's main drain line to the septic tank.
