Don't buy an LED test light. Halogen test light with a 24v lamp installed works best. Use it on 12 and 24v.

Thanks buddy, just ordered one. This is an old and used tractor we just got to move some dirt and boulders. Battery terminal positive was cracked and we replaced it but it would’ve still beeped even if it had a slight connection problem?

Depends how dead the battery is. Have you tried swapping fuses? Should be a diagram on the fuse panel somewhere that tells you what’s what.

Spend about $60 on a digital multimeter to test the battery and all the circuits and cables. I can and many others here can tell you what to hook up to and results expected. Fire away with questions. Test lights can lead you astray but so can a multimeter, But not after using them for more than 30 years. Simon C

Dulinl43 did you get to testing anything yet. Don't be afraid of multimeters, as all of us had to learn at some point. Once you get one we can give you a few easy test to sort out bad cables and switches. Simon C

Lemme get a multi meter, I’ve just got a halogen one. It’s weird, so we were clearing land and it got a little bumpy moving rocks I’m saying like these are big bulky rocks 1/3 of the size of the tractor and was going down hill and it just died. We checked the battery and it seemed ok still neeed a voltage check and so do the fuses and relays. Everything was in the right position when it had died. I still hear a humming noise when turning the ignition on. We’re thinking it could be the belt sensor, fuses, relays, and or why it would be relay and why it burnt out.

Some other Bobcat 863 forum threads with "no turnover, battery ok" mention " bad controller box (which is located down by your left foot behind a black access panel gets moisture in the controller and can short them out. Now the replacement boxes come sealed from factory. May be an area to check into.

Battery is good and we switched out all the fuses and it blew the blue 15 amp once but got it running

What is the designation of the 15 amp fuse you blew. Is it for the fuel solenoid or something else. Is starting hit and miss or is it instant now. Simon C

It’s in the bottom right hand corner like near the alternator and the relays are near the battery on the left side. But the 15 amp blew and we replaced it. It works but it’s the engine shut off it’s service repair manual and it says it’s either the selinoid or loose or frayed wiring.

A Micro clamp meter at the solenoid would tell all on start up. If solenoid draws too much, the solenoid is done or the harness could be grounding out also. By pulling the fuse out and testing with clamp meter at fuse with a breakout adapter with solenoid disconnected the results will be immediate on meter. Plugging solenoid back in would give many more amps on clamp on. Thats how I would test it. Simon C

thanks Simon C, keeps blowing 15 amp fuse and we’ve been checking all the connections

With fuel solenoid disconnected, does the fuse keep blowing or only when solenoid is connected. In other words, the solenoid is faulty or harness is shorting to ground somehow. Hope you find it. Simon C

We have yet got to the fuel solenoid but hopefully we will get to it soon

Turns out the guy before us had already had a 25amp in the 15amp fuse spot. Haven’t ran it today yet but we’ll fix it hopefully it’ll stop blowing the other 15amp fuse so we can get it running again.

Look for a single wire or three wire plug in on the fuel injection pump. There is most likely a solenoid there that is suspect of being problematic. I have a Bobcat 864 fuse panel picture, and it is fused separately at 30 amps. Not sure about 863 Bobcat fuel solenoid control. Not sure if computer is in control of fuel solenoid. That 15 amp Engine fuse on your picture probably powers the solenoid but can't prove since not there. Simon C
