my neighbour has a mid size ex with one of the smaller isuzu engines Fairly common sytem for stopping the engine unlike one wire plunger on inj pump there is a actuator type unit with 4 wire (3 in use) ex is stopping in rough terain, immediatly restarts. Can someone confirm correct operation of the fuel stop/start actuator/solenoid. is the pluger moved by switching current to each pair of wires?, or is there a motor in there?
The start stop selinoids have two electro magnetic coils in them. One is the pull up coil. The other is the hold coil. The pull up coil (starting coil) draws way more power than the hold coil. The third wire will be the ground. When you bump the starter the pull up coil is energized only when the starter is engaged. And the hold coil keeps it there with very little power. I would say there is a bad connection somewhere in the hold coil power supply. Hope this helps you
thanks for the info yup! on the money, i looked at this last week and the source has been found it's a 4LE1 isuzu, i was getting 30ish ohms for each coil, but voltage erractic to the run coil. Turns out there is a connection issue around the instrument panel, move and pull lightly on the loom conduit to the panel, and votage to coil is erratic, i'm guessing ign switch. The owner has a way to get running if it stops until he has time to get to workshop and remove the seat for better access, ( he has other jobs to do then while ex is getting repairs)
