snorkel wear pads

I have a snorkel tb60 boom that is in need of new wear pads on the top and bottom, front and back side. What is the best way to go about this. I have helped the mechanic do this before but he was going so fast i couldnt keep up. Do i have to pull the booms to do the rear pads??? Any tips or dos and donts? Going to attempt it as soon as the parts arrive.

Hi barklee, Not sure what year model your TB60 is, but I checked the parts manual on the models from '97 - '01 and yes you would have to pull the boom apart to replace inner wear pads, which is pretty typical. It's not a terribly complicated project for someone with some mechanical experience, but it ain't like changing a flat tire either. The power track is on the outside, which does make things a bit easier. It helps greatly if you can remove the basket and get it out of your way, didn't look to see if that's an easy process on your machine. The basic process involves removing the rear anchor pin for the telescope cylinder. Disconnect the extend cables at rear of boom. Disconnect the retract cable underneath boom at basket end of base boom. Begin pulling the mid and fly sections together. This is where you need equipment to pull sections and support the sections when they come all the way out as well. As the sections are being pulled, you need to have a helper pull the retract cables out of the base section, otherwise you'll wad them in knots inside boom. Before you remove the sections completely, you will probably have to remove the outer wear pads of base section. Once you get the mid and fly sections on the ground you can proceed with removing the telescope cylinder, then pulling the fly section out of the mid. That's just the basics of it.

I "helped" do a terex lift, and it seems to me that the cables were a bear to get back in when we put it together. Can i pull second and third boom apart individually or should i pull them out of the main boom all together and dismantel on the ground? My machine is a july 2001 year model

Generally, and again, can't say for sure about your Snorkel, but you typically pull mid and tip section together. Get it on the ground on blocks, then you can pull the telecsope cylinder out the back of the mid and fly assembly. As you pulling the telescope cylinder, pull your tip extend cables out along with it. The extend cables go over sheaves at the end of telescope cylinder. Once you get the cylinder out, then you pull the tip section out of the mid section. It's really not all that hard to do this if you have the lifting equipment you need to perform the task.
