went to visit my buddy joe at the new vulcan quarry being dug at the old poop ponds in stickney il. he is on an 885 liebherr with a bauer slurry attachment. what a nasty job.
a little more. they use this pc 800 to dig the pre trench about 48 feet down through the slurry and overburden.
I heard those slurry wall attachments are a PITA to maintain...on the Big Dig in Boston, they called theirs "the mother-in-law."
Okay, I need some explanation of the whole slurry wall concept. I've seen a few pics on here of outfits working on them but what are they for? Are they trying to seal an area off from contaminating another area? If a PC 800 is digging the trench whats the Liebherr doing?
lash, it was explained to me but i still am not sure. the 800 pre digs to stone at 48' or so. the slurry is pumped in and the bauer digs through the slurry to key into the stone. this area is going to be mined then turned into resevoir. the slurry wall will seal it. i think.
Lashlander this may be of some help http://www.slurrywall.com/slurry-walls-technology/default.asp#WHAT-ARE-SLURRY-WALLS
That sort of answers my questions. The slurry looks like Bentonite. They use it for drilling mud in the oilfield. If there mining an area they probably don't want the ground water migrating out of the pit.
