Having issues with sprocket segments wearing in side of teeth....anyone have any thoughts .....Cat D6 d...has eat about half inch off the inside....may be the result of the front idler not being shimmed correct....havent used this tractor in a while and noticed it while giving it a walk around ...will order new segemts...
I don't own just operate but hate to see new segment eat up....other than this I sure like this tractor....owner said use it since they were done eat up....pins and bushings show no wear......had final drive leak fixed....may have not got the sprocket back right...any thoughts appreciated.
Doubt if the idler alignment would affect this that much as the rollers would hold the rail in align. May need to drop the rail and see where the lower truck is as to alignment with the machine as that may be moved or failed to correctly mount when they replaced the seal.
Thanks DMiller....by the truck moving....what is that...is it on the final drive?
The truck is the frame assembly the rail runs on with idler and rollers attached. To replace the final seals the truck has to be unbolted and moved off the sprocket/final for access.
I think that's what I refer to as the wishbone...it did come down ...broke the cap and let the track walk off the sprocket....thanks for the help...
It's welded to the track frame and bolts to the axle...has bushings and has to come down to put the seal in....if I'm right....they have a chain with a ratchet boomer for whatever reason...trying to strighteen the track frame...i don't think the frame is bent..i think that is the cause of the segment being eat up...my 10 cents worth..
The track was getting under the bottom rollers...that was due to the front idler not being shimmed proper...thanks again for the info..
I'm going to borrow a qoate from Nigel...cant get my head that far up my rear to see the boomer..chain helping...
If they have a com-a-long trying to hold the truck in place this machine needs not be working. Someone needs their butt kicked for half azzing a job if the wishbone is broken/bent.
Still trying to figure this out....the rail is riding in the middle of the sprocket....it has to be rubbing ...never seen this before....
I'm confused. Did the wishbone come loose in the past and get fixed or is it boomed down now with a boomer?
It came down and was repaired....the owner recently had a final drive seal replaced.. this is when the sprocket wear on the inside started... wearing vertical and hortizonal....for what ever reason they had a chain with a ratchet boomer attached to the wishbone where it connects to the truck....i haven't seen a bent truck but know it's possible....ive never seen a sprocket eat up like this...this one has me baffled.
Seems to me something wasn't put back right since this sprocket wear started after the final drive seal repair.....is it possible to mount the segments wrong...inside out or vici versa....
Sounds like they didn't get the sprocket pushed back on correctly.
There are a series of things that could have been done wrong, getting someone to look at it locally will be the testament and I highly recommend someone else come to look at what is happening here.
Could the segments be bolted on the wrong side of the hub?
how do you know they even used the correct parts for the sprocket....is there a cast part number you can see in any of the pieces?
Hi Dennis , I wonder if the seal needing to be replaced had something to do with the segment issue ? Was a cause found for the seal failing .
Could the segments be bolted on the wrong side of the hub? Doubtful, bolting only works one way with a recess on the segments to align to the center rim. Would make it a MAJOR PITA to install wrong.
Not too familiar with bolt on segments but thought it would make one side wear if the were put on the wrong side.
Doubt could get rails on of installed wrong, not much give or clearance.
