I have an older 90's Hitachi ex58mu that takes EP-90 oil for the drives. I can only find this in a marine application which has an additive package for corrosion due to salt water. Is this ok or are there a different alternatives? (80w-90 ok?)
yes
Is this a play on the "If you come to a fork in the road, take it." decision? Is the 'yes' for using the marine stuff, or is it that there is a different alternative? (or both)
A suitable alternative to an SAE90 EP oil would be an SAE50 oil meeting Cat TO-4 specification. We successfully switched a lot of Hitachi machinery from EP oils to TO-4.
