For the years 1990-2010 what are the brands that had Sumitomo make their machines. Im aware of Case and Link-Belt here in the USA but would like to know others around the world? My main motivation is finding machines I can get parts from to keep my two 90s era Case 9050 alive. I recently ran across a local to me 1994 JCB JS300 that the owner said came into Canada from the UK and he bought it at auction and brought it into the USA. Its an almost identical machine to my Case machines and I was unaware that Sumitomo ever built anything for JCB.
Yes, Sumitomo did build JCB machines for many years. I don't recall when they stopped. Case, Linkbelt, JCB all built by Sumitomo but each brand often had a different engine so little things like wiring harnesses and some electrical components were different.
Thanks, im headed back today to drag the JCB to the road so it can be hauled. JCB has an isuzu engine and the wiring is different up to the cab where it looks to be identical to my Case harness at the junction. Its actually in great shape as the engine quit shortly after the undercarriage was overhauled and most of the pins done. Lines are still looking good for sitting outside for years. Ill see how supportive my JCB dealer is at sourcing the specific parts not shared with Case or Link-Belt. From the time I spent looking it over that appears to be only some of the interior and the engine.
History | Sumitomo Construction Machinery - Excavator,Asphalt Paver View the history of Sumitomo Construction Machinery. www.sumitomokenki.com That link is Sumitomo's history summary and just in case the web page changes in the future here are the bullet points that answer the original question I asked. 1972 - Joint development agreement formed with Link-Belt Corp., establishing system with international division of work. 1976 - Export of hydraulic excavators made by Sumitomo Machinery Industries to FMC Corporation for the U.S. market. 1986 - Link Belt Construction Equipment Company (LBCE) established in U.S., for full scale entry into the U.S. market. 1991 - JCB-SCM Limited (JSL) established as a joint venture with JCB of the UK. 1992 - OEM supply contract for hydraulic excavators formed with U.S. Case Corporation. 1998 - Joint venture with JCB of UK is ended, and global alliance signed with U.S. Case Corporation. LBX Company established as a manufacturing and sales base of excavators in North America. Sumitomo to date (2025) has ownership of LBX and supplies Case crawler excavators. Hope this helps anyone in the future trying to keep an old Sumitomo hoe alive regardless the paint color.
In the year 1992-1996 JCB builded the models up to 200LC by themselves i Great Britain. These model where not exactly identical to the Sumitomo models made in Japan. 110 and 130 JCB had Isuzu engine instead of Mitsubishi. 150 lc was never made in Japan. JCB 200LC had a wider undercarrige than the Japan made Sumitomo LS2800FLJ2 JCB 240 was identical to the Sumitomo LS3400FLJ2 JCB 300LC was a japan made Sumitomo LS4300FLJ2 with 31 horsepower weaker Isuzu engine instead of the Mitsubishi engine in the Sumitomo version. JCB 450LC was identical to Sumitomo LS5800FJ2 and made by Sumitomo in Japan. 1990-1999 I owned 2 Japan made Sumitomo Excavators and i bought spare parts from JCB.
Thanks for the info on JCB, not a brand I see much of anything except backhoes around here. The JCB JS300LC I picked up is a 1994 and crosses with the Sumitomo S430, as does my 1993 Case 9050. My 1996 Case 9050B crosses with the Sumitomo S430 of its generation as well. Sumitomo doesn't sell directly in the NA market but the Link Belt excavators carry the LS badging you've listed for the Sumitomo machines. The Link Belt LS4300 crosses directly with both my JCB and CASE machines, as well as the Sumitomo S430. My CASE dealer has been great so far and anything they cant find stocked in the NA CASE parts network they can order me from the Sumitomo catalog using the S430 machine parts codes.
