Has anyone tried substituting another kind of oil?The 10w recommended is getting hard to find.My dozer has sat for about 8 years and oil level is not on the stick,so I don’t really know how much it will take but the dozer won’t move so I suspect a lot

I thought it had to be straight 10w engine oil
The engine oil formulas of that era changed and current engine oils are no longer suitable for use in transmissions. I should have said TO-4 SAE 10 instead of TDTO-10 as TO-4 is an older more common spec that will better suit your needs. Ask for some help on Redpower Forums. They should have the solution to your problem.
Actually TDTO and TO-4 are both the same thing, kind of......... TDTO is a Cat-branded oil designed for use in transmissions and other power train components - https://s7d2.scene7.com/is/content/Caterpillar/CM20150813-35930-44106 TDTO oil meets TO-4 spec. Cat then produced the industry-standard TO-4 specification which is the spec that commercial oil companies must meet to produce an oil with the same performance characteristics as Cat TDTO. For example this product from Mobil. As you can see on the spec sheet it states - " This product meets or exceeds the requirements of: Caterpillar TO-4 - https://www.mobil.com/en-us/commercial-vehicle-lube/pds/na-us-mobiltrans-hd-series TBH if the TD20C was mine it would get an oil meeting TO-4 specification in the transmission.
The newer versions of HY-TRANS or ones that list HY-TRANS meet that TO-4. Lucas also has a TO-4 30wt (along with 10wt or 50wt)… while it looks like oil, feels like oil, I will say there is a distinct/noticeable difference in smell between this TO-4 oil and the other gear oils and Tractor Supply “almost TO-X” oil I have around here… Also interesting to look at Lucas’ catalog to see all the various gear oils (and weights) they offer to meet/exceed various manufacturers.
