I have 2 international trucks first one has a VT 365 has check engine light with code 164 which is for ICP sensor. Anyway to test this without a high dollar scanner? It starts hard and sometimes quickly stalls and will restart and run or it will not start at all when it is under 30 degrees. Check engine light is always on and will come right back on when idling if I clear it. When driving it seems to have all power as normal. Second truck is a International with a 7.3 year 2001 it also has code 154 for ICP. This has same exact issues. Any way to test these sensors? Also where are they located? Thanks
You tube Diesel Ron and google Hoglund Bus. Even if the engine series is a little different the system is basicly the same. You can spend some time there.
Unplug the ICP and see what happens. The ECU will switch to a default value and if the system is physically OK, it should run fine, but the wallet light will be on on the dash. Starting hard and stalling is likely an issue with the high pressure oil system. The fact that it's intermittent suggests an issue with the IPR valve. The IPR should be basically closed at idle. If the IPR filter screen is broken, junk gets in the valve and cannot close.
