The definition of stuck This happened in a bog around the road from me yesterday. just glad its not mine. The 120 was sitting on mats trying to pull out the 60 beside it and the mat broke, and this happened.
I think I could buff that right out in a few minutes. On a more serious note....if they are both Hitachis, I would just bring a couple gravestones and leave 'em.
The 60 got away, and the poor 120 helping got done. Keep the pics comming of how the 120 gets out
That is stuck! Sean, can you tell me what an Irish bog is used for? Do they remove peat from those areas, or what? Here in northern Canada we call stuff like that muskeg and we mostly leave it alone. It can swallow machines and sometimes even people!
I'd call that stuck seanthebogger. Those peat bogs look unforgiving.
Seriously, what the heck are 2 shovels doing out in a bog like that? No way would I take my hoe out into an area like that, even with mats. I've been in some boggy areas with my machine, but its in the winter when the ground is froze, and trees need to be harvested. When the ground thaws, we pull out and lock the gate until next winter. Please keep us informed on how they got the machines out, I'm curious as to what they have to bring in to rescue that poor machine.
Oh man that sux! I assume with all that water in the cab that it wont be able to use its own power to help with the recovery. Will they be able to get a crane or a tow truck in there in that bog?
Not the first time that has happened Sean,I suppose they will get in that gentleman from the west to winch her out.
I presume it was digging ditches to drain bog for peet mos production?
pictures hope they get some pictures too :drinkup graham
Im going to try and answer all the questions here, firstly a gravestone probably would be the best option and just push it on down, haha. at the price it costs to get that guy stock is talking about in to pull it out, unfortunately i wont be able to get pics of it being pulled out because i was being extremely cheeky taking this pics when its not my machine or bog, sorry. and this is not the first time this company had a machine down in the same bog, i think stock the guys name you are talking about is fairy or something, he is the lad with one arm. The 60 was out digging drains so the bog could be harvested for dry milled peat during the summer. the excavator wont even start cause it took water into the engine, well not until its up anyway. the electronics are generally ok though. the machine is 200meters from solid ground, so the guy that is pulling it out will drive his tractor out into the bog on mats and then drive two large poles down into the bog and use them to stop himself from getting pulled in aswell, and winch it out from there. generally this type of bog work is just to get peat for growing plants flowers etc. we also dig out the bog for peat to grow mushrooms, i added another pic to give you an idea of what i mean and the sort of machines we use to do it
now that is IN...
Jeez that is wet. The width of those tracks on that 120 and it broke the mats I often wonder, if its that soft how the hell does the operator escape the machine. Does he have 3ft sq pieces of 1/2" ply nailed to his soles I would love to see pics of the recovery, a winch out there on mats, oooooowww sounds awful risky to me.
solution: Airplane ticket to China. Dig from that side.
Is that one of MW hires pumps in the pic?
Stock, yeah we bought it from them a few years ago, they're big money but well worth it. its an 8inch one. we bought our first one at euro auctions in dromore for 3000, and got macormack mcnaughton out to give the engine a going over and it has never let us down. dont hold me to this but if i can remember right they will pump 120000 gallons per hour.
Nice lad Mattie ? Had a lot of dealing with him.Keeps good gear.Just make sure you check the vacuum oil on them and keep a check on the level of vac she is pulling .
Cool pictures seanthebogger. That would be a challenging recovery.About how deep dose the peat run until you find somthing solid. Is there rock below it ,clay maby. Those peat boggs are interesting.
td25c, some of them could be maybe only ten feet of peat, and its generally clay below them but its not exactly solid. we have a bog where we pushed a 45foot long tree trunk down into the bog at absolute ease with that ex100-5 to try and find a bottom, needless to say we havent tried looking for it again.
stock, im not actually to sure who we deal with there, my brother generally does the dealing with things like that. it has lost pressure a couple of times, but its generally cause it has sucked up a pile of dirt, so just stick a piece of rubber mat or conveyor belt over the outlet and away she will go again for another 6 to 8 months.
is that the digger or the tree? 45ft, bet you backed out of there very carefully
Haha, i actually meant the bottom. the pics of the ex100-5 is just beside where we pushed the tree down, machines like that will travel around on that ground no problem but you cant use the say path twice. if you have to come out the way you went in we try and travel on top of the ridges and not dig ourselves a grave.
Thats very intresting, I would not have thought that a big problem.
If you look at the second picture of the ex100 you can see where it has left its path behind it. and its just if you were to track in on it again it would just get too churned up and sloppy and its most likely that you would just end up calling for help. sometimes you may be able to pull yourself out using the bucket and tracking but you would be hoping to find some solid ground faairly fast. haha
Why Hitachi's I don't really see much of these bog machine, not living near the midlands. Seems though that Hitachi are the most popular choice of machine for work on the bogs. Is this perception correct and if so whats the reason?
well 360joe, your perception isnt wrong, but there really is no reason that i can think of apart from popularity of the machine, due to cost, reliability and practicality. thats just my opinion though. bord na mona have quite a few cats, and i know some people with hyundai's. i have seen one or two case's and volvos as well but they are generally only on 4ft pads. thats relly the best answer i can give you.
