Found this machine the other day. Whats up with the green hydro. fluid? every drop had poured out onto the ground and ran like a creek for about 20'
Shoulda covered it up before some hippy saw it.
Must have blew a hose or chaffed a metal line behind the pump door or somewhere on the way to the boom. Never seen green hydraulic fluid, sure it wasnt antifreeze?
You guys keep any Dawn dish washing soap on hand in case blown hose near water? Pete
I couldbe wrong (it happened once before ) but the Hyd fluid may have turned green because of the acidity or minerals in the soil.:beatsme
Probably the original fluid with dye in it. Helps to locate leaks alot easier.
Mineral oil Is it possibly a type of enviro friendly hyd oil ? Machines in the UK on regular Enviroment Agency / near or on water have thier standard oil changed, but dont know about colour. Could be to highlight the difference so a person didn't top up the tank with normal hyd oil and contaminate the lot ! Though it doesnt look like that will be a problem in this case,
Using detergent on an oil spill is the worst possible thing you can do... The soap causes the oil to form little balls, and sink to the bottom. If you let it sit on the surface, it will eventually evaporate, or at least gives you a chance to soak it up...
Kobelco dyes its oil blue/green at the factory. You have a seal or line chaffed somewhere.
I've seen several excavators and our APE Vibro run vegetable oil. Its yellow in color. Its environmentally friendly but eats seals big time. The oil has no lubricity so after a while you have oil leaks everywhere. Most Ape Vibros have a containment system built in to catch all the oil they leak. We built a bridge across a major Salmon stream. The plans called for a pile driver that ran vegetable oil in case there was a blown hose.
Same here, my brother worked on a job they had to change all the machines over to the vegetable oil.
if its not anti freeze it could be enviro friendly hyd oil
just go buy couple of boxes of pads w/wings...work great for soaking up oil
I have heard of that problem about it eating the seals but did not know why :thumbsup
We use Clearity Hyd fluid its enviro friendly and its clear. That makes it a PITA to see in the sight glass.
