  5. #5PSDF3502007-04-05 11:20

  6. #6CM19952007-04-05 11:24

Oh my gosh! What kind of people are you guys working for?

  7. #7PSDF3502007-04-05 11:36

It's for when you have that job on the wrong side of the tracks. But seriously if you need to say pull, dig or what have you in a war zone the operator is much safer from snipers and such.

Looks like it would be as useful as nipples on a boar hog to me. Boy I wish I had the military's budget. Today 09:31 AM Obviously you have never had to dig a fighting position with an E-tool:Banghead I have a harder time with the backhoe equipped Apache. That would be interesting to watch. Especially if they did not call for a locate

  15. #15CM19952007-04-05 20:29

Just think- if they equipped that chopper with a hydraulic hammer you could take any tall building down from the top. Or a Fecon mulching head to top trees with. Even better - one of those jet engine dryers they use in Nascar to dry the tracks with - you could blow the rain off your job before it hits the ground.

  16. #16PSDF3502007-04-05 21:58

LMAO that is just to funny. Just had cold water trown in my face. It would be funny if not my tax dollars at work:Banghead

  17. #17biggixxerjim2007-04-05 22:28

OK, here is some facts: The vehicle pictured is a armoured engineer vehicle. This modell is built on a Leopard 2 Main battle tank chassis. Means you got 1500Hp to push a 3,6m wide dozer blade...(ap 11") The excavator got a 1,0 m3 bucket. The vehicle also got 2 capstan winches with a total of 72t pull.(with pulleys) This little thing has a weight of ap. 55 tonns. This modell is ordered by the Dutch, Swedish and Swiss armies. Norway got its little brother, on a Leopard 1 chassis. Same dozer, 750l bucket, same vinches and 47tonns. But only with a V10 with 830Hp.(38l volume) I have spent some houndred hours in the Norwegian one, and its a mean machine. Guess what hapends when 47t in 10km/h puts its dozer in the ground. Whell, dirt realy lifts the ground and is flying trough the air.

  27. #27digger242j2007-04-08 12:17

First, MKTEF, welcome to the forums! Thanks for the background on that vehicle. My earlier comment about being shot at while trying to dig a ditch was only partly in jest. I would have guessed that was the purpose of the machine. We had some discussion in another thread about how enclosed cabs affect visibility for the operator. Would you care to comment on what that's like in an armored vehicle? Can you see your work well enough to do anything with precision, or is precision a secondary consideration when you're being shot at?

  28. #28MKTEF2007-04-08 12:50

Visibility in armoured vehicles Hey digger242j Of course i can give you some comments! First, i've spent som years with testing and design of the Norwegian vehicle. And i'll give you all info that is not security restricted. It is as you answer yourself; the important thing here is to remember that this is a combat vehicle. When your in combat, the presicion is not the important issue. :guns But of course, you want to see as good as possible. On these spesific vehicles we have both armoured persicopes for both the driver and the commander. The driver has 3 main to the front that he uses. + 4 to the side and back. In the periscopes you can se down the front of the vehicle. For dozing, this and training, is good enough. We designed the blade with a big area under, so you litteraly ride on the underside when dosing. Then you adjust the pitch to have more/less in front of the blade.(the vehicle has a live undercarrige) For excavaiting it is another issue. We have mounted a number of cameras to help under the excavating work. One under the boom and one at the base of the arm. We also added one for dosing, at the base of the arm.(opposide side, because the arm is parked to the back under dosing) The problem is judging the distance, because you loose the ability to judge distance trough a camera... Training helps on everything. And of course, the seat is adjustable so you spend most time with your head in a helmet and your nose just above the edge of the armour.

Armoured vehicles More comments: For armoured construction vehicles i can post som pictures later when i get to work...easter holidays now..:cool2 We have som equipment that is armoured. That is Volvo L70C, L120C, A25C, Lännen 940 and Liebherr 574. I have posted a picture of the liebherr. Later i can post som from the front. This one has nearly the same view as the original cabin. And it is armoured! Of course that is always a question on against what: - 9mm, 5,56, 7,62, .50, or bigger? The bigger bullet, the thicker and smaler glass vindows. We are talking on multiple layers of glass glued together mounted in a solid frame. One of the liebherr's i got has thick glass windows and steel curtains outside that, and camera also. Shut the curtan and drive on camera when you get real problems... To the other discusion: i prefer closed cabins. +62 centigrade in the shadow in Barsrah. You love your AC. Cabs disrupts your vision, but that only demands that you move your head to se what you miss.

Norwegian Armoured Engineer Vehicle Here is som pictures of the Norwegian one. Backhoe parked to the rear. 38L V10 830Hp no Exaust silencer....

For you CB I have spent some time on youtube: Her it is, a video of our armoured engineer vehicle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5lzoldDcko It shows some of the capacities of the vehicle. But i state that this is not the way military equipment should be used. And i mean that this should not have been done in the first way, there is always someone who got a camera at hand.:Banghead Then it ends on the net, and cant be erased. And thats my message back to the higher ranked offisers, who allowed this show to happend. ointhead

  32. #32MKTEF2007-06-16 13:52

More car crashing Here is another video for u cb: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLX2-N_0vKk Shows our older leopard 1 main battle tank, it got the same chassis as the engineer vehicle. Filmed at Rena, shows some of my "playground"/worksite. It is a old film, from the pictures and uniform, from around 97-00. And we are not allowed to drive down tree's everyday. The engineer one is heavier, ap 47t to 42t.

  33. #33Countryboy2007-06-17 17:41

Thanks for the links MKTEF. :thumbsup I'll hafta check um out when I get to the house. Boss doesn't let me watch Youtube. Thanks again. :drinkup
